Good location for exploring the local area

Left on 01/10/2013 for a stay in October 2012

Overall it was a good location for us as we wanted to explore the area. There was a ton of rain and we had wished there more of a concrete pad to park on...to avoid stepping in puddles and mud on our way into the cottage. The cottage was well equiped with all the necessary supplies and dishes. We are early risers so we found that the heater was not programmed to come on until after we were already on the road. There is a great pub just up the road. As mentioned in other reviews - this cottage is just across the way from the owners, which in our case was fine. Also bein from outside the country we wanted to correspond about the property via email but the owners are more elderly and are not comfortable with electronic comminique

Lovely well equipped cottage but no garden!

Left on 08/23/2012 for a stay in August 2012

We stayed here as a family (mum, dad and two boys) and the cottage has fabulous facilities! However our 5 year old son was stir crazy as he couldn't go out to play (just whilst i prepared a meal or while he was waiting for the rest of us to get ready, that sort of thing) Whereas i realised it was a working Beef cattle farm, i didn't realise the door of the cottage was on the farm yard and perhaps would not have booked this cottage in particular had i have realised?! Also we felt a little over-looked as the cottage is on a T from the farmhouse, the cottage being the 'leg' part (farmhouse the top of the T) and as it was just the one holiday cottage, all eyes are on you. However, please dont mis-understand, the owners were very friendly and helpful and there was even fresh milk in the fridge upon our arrival! Even spare tea and coffee! I would stay there again without a doubt, just without the kids next time!

Oxen Cottage provided both the ideal environment and quality, single level accomodation for Mum to enjoy a relaxed holiday with us. Delightful hosts, including amy the dog, and interesting location. Plenty of lovely places to visit.

      Lovely accommodation, perfect location

Left on 07/31/2011 for a stay in July 2011

A very lucky, last minute find for us. Oxen cottage is so conveniently placed, just off the M4, but without any traffic noise. The Cotswold attractions and pretty villages are all within easy reach. More spacious than most holiday cottages, with top quality fixtures and fittings. Very comfortable. This is also one of the tidiest farms we have ever stayed on - no rusting machinery or bath tubs lying around! The owners are very friendly and welcoming; it feels as if you are staying with relatives. Highly recommended.

      Everything to hand

Left on 09/16/2010 for a stay in June 2010

3 of us stayed in the Oxen Cottage in what proved to be a marvellous holiday location. Being near to the M6 gave us a gateway to many places, including "Steam" at Swindon. We loved that place, enjoyed the Museum, shopping and calling in also at the National Trust HQ there. We were able to visit many old properties nearby and the scenery all around was perfect. So was the weather! Thoroughly recommend the property to everyone. All rooms were beautifully furnished, the Hosts were very friendly and we loved the cows and calves in the field close by the Cottage.

Mrs Ridout showed us through the entire property and explained everything necessary in detail - good service.. The interior was excelent, spacious and very clean. and contained everything required. The location was V Good just 2 miles to M4 but you obviously needed a car to get about.Visited Swindon, Chippingham, Marlborough, Malmesbury and other smaller locations. Marlborough was rather nice, having an extra wide main street - thus not overcrowded even when busy.
Only one small matter to raise - that being the flies within the cottage, but after all it is a working farm.
We certainly enjoyed our week and everything was of the high standard we have come to expect.

This is a great converted barn set in the countryside but near enough to the M4 to travel easily around the area.
It has all the facilities you could ever want in a holiday and the owners were so kind in leaving us goodies when we arrived. The cottage even has a jacuzzi! If you want a restful holiday this is the place for you. Can't recommend it highly enough.
