My husband and I stayed in The Bridge cabin. This was not too small or too large for the two of us! Perfect! It was well stocked with kitchen appliances and needs...we went grocery shopping on our way here and were able to cook our meals. This was a clean place, well taken care of! We really liked the down home feel of the office cabin that was always open with movies/puzzles/games/ideas/food/supplies.
If I had to mark one downfall...the water pressure in the shower was almost non-existent, I could not wash my hair...but a small problem when we looked at how much we loved everything!
lovely cabin as always (mother in Law this time because of the dog) clean and everything that you need We bring al our food so we do not have to leave the place We also have bee there in the fall We like that better because you can use the outdoor space more The firepalce was lovely .The people are very welcoming and take good care of you
Best cabin ever!
Loved the cabin there! Was very peaceful, quiet & relaxing. Very welcoming staff. They were so nice & helpful. Cabin felt home-like. Will absolutely be going back!
clean and quiet
The cabin was clean and very quiet, the staff was friendly and helpful. We would go back and have told our friends about it.
Great place, Nice people!
This was my second time going. My family and I love it. Highly recommend it for a weekend or longer getaway!

Amazing and Outstanding as always
We've been staying here annually for the past 20 plus years. We've found it necessary to, once a year, come away and unplug from the fast paced life most of us live. This is the place to unplug and unwind from it all. The care, concern, and love the staff have for their guests far surpasses any other place we've stayed. It's a quiet place to retreat and we can even bring out dog which is a huge blessing. We love watching the eagles at the river, dining out in wonderful places nearby, and having some much needed quiet time to ourselves. We cannot recommend Kishauwau Country Cabins enough. When we departed after this last stay we booked next year's stay and cannot wait to enjoy "our place" again. Richard and Dee ann

The cabin has an inviting atmosphere. It contained everything needed (including coffee) except the food - you supply that! The surroundings are clean inside and out. The other cabins are spaced a nice distance apart so you feel that you are vacationing and resting with just your family. Inside the cabin is a wood burning stove and outside there is a personal fire pit and picnic table. This Kishauwau Country Cabins is out in the country but easily accessed. The owners are pleasant, informative and easy to talk to. We were there in February - snow and very cold - but we were very warm and cozy inside. We will definitely return and spread the word! We loved it! Plus in the cabin we had - up to two dogs were aloud. So our husky, Mikayla, got to come along. She loves to hike!
We had a wonderful stay at the cabin. From the moment we walked on the property we were greeted with a friendly welcome. We felt like family. It was so peaceful..a place to disconnect from the busy world. Our family needed it as we had a rough year. We felt rejuvenated and strengthened to face the days ahead. Thank you!
Btw.. Loved Cookie! So very sweet!

Close to home, but so far away.
My husband and I stayed in the mother in laws cabin in February for the first time. The peacefulness is wonderful. The cabins are spacious and stocked with everything you need to enjoy your stay. Even though we are "locals" it felt like we were miles from home. I recommend Kishauwau to anybody looking to unplug and get away. We enjoyed ourselves so much we booked our second trip in May and are counting down the days until we get to go back.
Oak Lawn, Il.
Peaceful and tranquil.
Once again we enjoyed our stay so very much that this will always be one of our most favorite places to visit. Wonderfully peaceful. Thanks to the King family for their efforts to create a tranquil setting.

Kishauwau = Awesome
We stayed here for 4 nights over Labor Day weekend and I can't recommend Kishauwau enough! A family run operation, I found them by accident when looking for lodging in the area. There are different sizes and types of cabins, we stayed in the "Mother in Law' cabin, it was super clean and it is fully stocked with cooking utensils, so all that you need to bring are clothes and your basic toiletries. Each cabin comes equipped with a couple of charcoal grills. The cabin 'office' is open 24/7 and has lots of movies that you can borrow (for free!) along with books and magazines. There are also available for purchase ice cream bars and pizza. Everyone here was friendly and helpful and again, I can't emphasize enough the cleanliness of our cabin.
The cabins are within 10 minutes of Starved Rock and Matthiesen State Parks. Although there are like, some 20+ cabins on the property, we had adequate space between our cabin and neighboring cabins, it was very private and quiet. And the best part was that our cabin was dog friendly so we got to bring our best friend. Not all of the cabins are dog friendly, so be sure to check on-line or talk with staff when booking.
Be aware that there is not an area on premise to swim (at least that I could tell), which is no fault of Kishauwau, but something to be aware of. Also, there is a guest book to sign about your trip and experiences. It was fun and interesting to read some of the other guests posts. Cell phone service is non-existant, so be prepared to disconnect from the world for a while - which in itself is nice to not be tethered to a phone. A/C worked great, it was hot while we were here and the cabin was a nice cool refuge.
I would like to visit again, maybe in the winter when the Eagles are on the River.

Quiet Family Time
As a family of four, we often need to get away from the concrete jungle. Finding KCC was a God send. The pressure of the modern world slows as you drive through the two lane Highways. The cabin was cozy. The mattress was a bit mushy. The kids loved making a fire in the and counting the stars. Kcc is a must for adventurous families.
The Ross Family
I took my wife away to Kishauwau for a relaxing 3 nights for her birthday.
I must admit it was everything we needed and more. The cabins were immaculate and well stocked with all the essentials needed. Please don't be turned away by the rules listed on the website. Most of them are simply what my family calls " home trainin". The owners more than make up for them by being warm friendly and helpful. We especially loved spending the early morning sitting by the Koi Pond. Book ahead of time because the positive word about Kishauwau is being spread, although my wife and I kinda want to selfishly keep it to ourselves.
Quiet, Clean and Dog Friendly
Our cabin was clean with a nice kitchen. The addition of coffee was a nice touch. Most of all, we were able to bring our puppy. We are definitely returning in the future!
Clean and comfortable
Loved this sweet cabin for our family getaway. Very pleased with our experience and will certainly return.
Into the woods
Great, relaxing cabin!
These cabins are very clean, well stocked and comfortable. The grounds are wonderful with ample space between the cabins. Wide grassy lawn, large pine trees and even a nice koi pond and garden behind the main house are very inviting. Upkeep of the cabins is immaculate and the delivery of firewood to your cabins is awesome. The main house also provides snack and movies for your pleasure. Location wise, it's perfect. Close to Starved Rock and Matthesion State Park, it's easy to get everywhere. According to the cabin journal, these cabins are available year round including times of eagle watching, cross country skiing and summer activities. There is a wood burning stove in each cabin for colder months. Very friendly staff! A great place to stay for some quiet, relaxation and family fun. We went with our 2 1/2 year old who loved it, especially the campfire and marshmellows. Great place!
Quiet and Peaceful
Very nice place for a quiet get away. Polite and helpful staff. Clean and comfortable cabin.
The cabin was extremely clean, the staff could not have been nicer.
We loved being able to get away from the noise of the city. It was easy to get to, clean and comfortable. The family who runs it was very nice, right down the the honor-system they have for purchasing items in the office. Plus, they have an extensive library of videos and Dvd's to borrow. We enjoyed our stay very much!
Loved everything about our stay!
From the moment we arrived, we knew this was going to be a great trip!
2 adults and one child fit perfect in our spacious "Bridge Cabin".
The kitchen was stocked w/everything that you would need for your stay and if its missing something, the owners are kind enough to have most things avaiable for sale in the main cabin office.
They have tons and tons of DVD available, lots of cool board games and even Ice Cream to cool you off!
Our cabin was so cool! Sweet porch swing, picnic table in the back, along with a good size fire pit in the back.
Our neighbors were kind and quiet and the Owners were amazingly welcoming.
Due to the extra hot heat wave that we had for a few days, we were forced to stay in our super cool cabin for basically the whole trip! aww shucks. lol.
We managed to get out for a nice hike to Starved Rock for a few hours which was cool and I got to share the beauty of the waterfalls with my Love and my Son. It was such a great trip.
I have nothing negative to say about this place at all!
Thank you for having us, and we can not wait to come back in the fall!
Yearly Trip With Grandons
My 2 grandsons and I have been going on yearly camping/fishing ( boys time away) trip for the last 5 years. This is the second time we have stayed at Kishauwau on the Vermillion. We enjoy or time there. The cabin is very clean, comfortable and well equipped with everything you will need. The owners are very friendly and make your stay very pleasurable. Hiking at Starved Rock is one of our favorite past time. Utica is a very nice time to stroll around in the many antique shops there.
It was the perfect getaway! An open friendly set up that allows adults or families a serene getaway without worry about being interrupted by a party atmosphere. The layout makes it seem as if you are the only ones around even though there are multiple cabins to choose from! Highly recommend it!

The Tension Rolls away
Our stay at Kishauwau was everything we have come to expect from our previous visits, complete and totoal relaxation and privacy in a beautiful setting. We are already ready to return.
Although we were there for the flood of 2013 (even Starved Rock park was closed) towns were flooded ect ect, this was the best place...rain sleet snow didn't keep us from having a nice time in the brige cabin. The cabin was very nice and clean and the owners were great. even when the wind was blowing and couldn't get the smoke to go up the chimney instead of into the cabin, we got smoked out, but it was all fun and we had a great time! We only hope they will let us come back!!! Everything was wonderful, one could not find a more cleaner and friendly place.
exactly what me and the family needed
Our stay was exactly what I was looking for my family. somewhere quiet and peaceful away from the city. We loved our cabin and the swing attached to it. We will definitely be returning this fall!
My husband and I have stayed at the cabins once in the spring and once in the fall and enjoyed both times. The area is quiet and peaceful. Only minor suggestion is that in the Bridge Cabin would be to add a small dresser so that we can put our clothes away. Although we didn't watch TV, it would have been uncomfortable to have watched one of the free Dvds offered since the couch didnt face the TV and the bed would have been too far away. But, we plan to return and hope to stay again. It is a nice getaway if you don't mind being without Internet or even local news.
So clean, so peaceful!
If you are looking for a beautiful, clean and friendly place to stay look no further. Cabins are perfect for a quiet get away with friends or family. So nice that some of the cabins are pet friendly.
Very clean accommodations and very friendly atmosphere. Our family plus our dog had a wonderful time enjoying the cabin and the grounds!
My wife and I have been coming to Kishauwau for years. It is great to see that the charm and character of the cabins and property have remained. We will return.
Peaceful setting, friendly staff, and family time:)
We have stayed at Kishauwau 3 times and always have a great experience. The cabins are very clean and the staff are wonderful hosts. This is a peaceful, family getaway, with time for non-electronics-based interaction!
Perfect romantic getaway, when you want to get away grom it all.
My significant other and I had a wonderful stay at the Bridge Cabin. We spent three days at Kishauwau, while day-tripping to the state parks nearby. The area is great; scenic and peaceful. The propietors were amazing! I've never had a stay, while on vacation, that within the first few hrs was already hoping I'd be back soon (just for the accomodations, alone). Make sure to bring sufficient groceries and bottled/galloned water and to have enough gas as the closest gas station and grocery store are a drive away. I cannot recommend this place enough and honestly had as great a time in the cabin as I had in the state parks.
Orland Park, IL
Great Weekend Getaway!
Its a wonderful place to go. The people are so friendly. I would recommend it to anyone and definitely plan on going back there sometime.
Absolutely love Kishauwau...stay in and relax or go outside and enjoy the beautiful parks and trails, this place has it all. Read more
Response from Kishauwau Country Cabins - 03/02/2013
Thank you for your review. I love it when people give others something to read about, even the littlest comment. Just like the journals in our cabins, I think others love that offering to hear what others had to say. We appreciate it.
great place to unplug
My husband and i enjoyed our stay at Kishauwa Cabins. We got to bring our dog with, we visited Starved Rock, and we relaxed! Although there is no cable in the cabins, they have lots of movies to watch even new ones, and the kitchen is nice, but make sure you bring everything you might need to cook like even cooking oils, that was our mistake lol. It's a family owned place for families or couples to relax for a quiet weekend. It was great! It's really the little things in life that make it worth it.
We are definitely going back here. It was great and also great for the price. Good people too.
So relaxing and peaceful
My sister and I stayed for one night in the mother-in-law cabin in January 2012. It was immaculate, charming, and just right for our one-night getaway. We didn't lack for a single thing, other than the time to stay longer! Theresa is such a sweetheart and helpful. Love the stocked office, too! Just couldn't ask for a better place to stay. We will be back and looking forward to spending time there in the spring or summer with our extended family. Perfect place!!!
Recommended Very Much
Beautiful setting, nice accomodations and really nice approach to giving guests natural peace to find on their own. Very well-suited to urban Midwesterners looking for release. I recommend experiencing it.
My boys and I
Great winter retreat
This is the second time I have taken the family here for a winter getaway. Great accomodations and ammenities. The location is a bit away from town, but that was what we were looking for. Several state parks are nearby and in winter it is cool to see the eagles. There are a couple of wineries in the area as well.
Enjoyed it. People were friendly and it was very clean.
Great peaceful getaway
A perfect place to unwind and recharge! My husband, dog and I really enjoyed our stay. Staff was very helpful and friendly. Beautiful setting. We will be back!
11/27/12-11/29/12 This was my year end vacation time right before the crazy Christmas Holiday. I brought my dog Nico with me, so we could hike thru Starved Rock. The Cabin was immaculate, very cozy. (Note to self) Perfect couples getaway. Only a few miles outside of town for entertainment/dining. But if you want to cook, the kitchen is fully equipped with all the cooking essentials.
I have recommened this place to all my friends and will come back myself in the future.

We loved the homeiness of the cottage and the fact that even though it rained, we could get books or Dvd's from the office. The cottage was well-kept and stocked.
Kishauwau = Island Time
If you're looking for a place to get away from it all, spend time in nature, Kishauwau is the place for you. Peaceful, comfortable, a home away from home with the surrounding beauty of Starved Rock.
Kishauwau...what a beautiful, tranquil place!
The accomodations were wonderful. We loved the fact that it was so laid back...no television or telephone. Just beautiful scenery and wonderful state parks very close to the cabin.
We have been coming to Kishauwau for over 20 years and and it's always like the first time, Magical. We will continue to visit for a long time and now my children and grandchildren are enjoying it on their own. Thanks so much!
It was one of the most pleasantly memorable family getaways for
The staff was very kind and their service was fast and very curteous (eg. getting the firewood to us etc.)
We stayed at the Mother-in-law cabin, which is one of the smaller cabins. This little cabin had everything imeginable to make our stay pleasant. Outside had grill, barbecue, fire ring, swing on the porch, little patio in the back. Inside the main attractions: a woodburning stove and two very cozy lazyboy chairs. The kitchen was well equipped with all the modern world's amenities, there was even coffee and sugar by the coffee pot. The cabin was very rustic inside and outside but with a comfort touch. Our 16 year old son did not want to come with us because he thought it was going to be boring and nothing to do there. He loved the cabin so much he did not want to leave after the three days we stayed at the cabin. Since then we have booked two more vacation stays at Kishauwau. This place is an additional gem in the gorgeous Starved Rock area.
One more thing: the selection of Dvds and VHS tapes were incredible and the 24 hours honor system is almost one of a kind. And well behaved dogs are allowed!!!
Very nice, clean, comfortable, private, friendly. we enjoyed our stay.
Good value, great place to stay.
The place was super nice as it was just completely remodeled within the last year and a half. The price was very reasonable, and our only complaint was that the kids didn't think the pull-out bed was very comfortable. The place offers free movie rentals, and it's not far from Starved Rock or Matthiessen State Park, so I would highly recommend this place to anyone visiting those parks or the general area.

Peaceful and Relaxing
My husband and I spent a weekend at the small family cabin for our wedding anniversary. The cabin was cozy, clean and very comfortable. The grounds were beautiful and very close to the awesome state parks in the area..less than 10 min drive! We most enjoyed snuggling up on the couch in front of the fireplace with movies we picked out from their huge selection. Loved the laid back atmospehere and quiet, peaceful setting..can't wait to return! If you're thinking of visiting Starved Rock State Park (or Matthieson State Park which is less commercial and absolutely beautiful...vermillion staff told us about it!) this is a great choice for lodging..such a hidden gem!

Oak Lawn, Il.
m-i-l cabin was just plain fantastic
We had a wonderful stay, quiet, clean, relaxing. All the towels & linens were plush/new feeling, not thread-bare motel stuff. The staff is sooo nice/layed-back & accomadating.
One note; bring all the food/groceries you need, the little store in Utica is so-so, the nearest big store is in Ottawa
We will come back again, maybe make it a group event!!!

Unplug, unwind & Experience True relaxation
I have to admit that I went through a brief period of "withdrawal" with no access to the Internet, but I got over it pretty quickly. The cabin I stayed in was immaculate, the personal touches, such as plush bath towels, the comfortable bed, and the cabin diary were wonderful! I wish I could keep the Kishauwau a personal secret, but it was so wonderful that I can't keep it to myself! If you are looking to "escape" for a couple of days or a couple of weeks, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the cabins at Kishauwau on the Vermillion!! Who knew that such gems hide among the corn fields!!
The cabin was in great condition and the outdoors was so peaceful. The hospitality was beyond expectations.
Ross, Carol and Zeke
Very relaxing getaway!
We enjoyed our stay with our small dog in the mother in law cabin. We stayed three nights and just loved the quiet, peaceful and beautiful setting and the spacious and clean cabin! We were close to Starved Rock and the other national parks. We would definitely consider returning to Kishauwau!
Two-nights in a relatively secluded cabin with no internet or cell access allowed for time to slow down. I could solely focus on enjoying each moment. The cabin was amazingly well-kept, well-furnished, and pleasant. It was more comfortable than any box-hotel. I will go back. It was a great chance to regenerate the batteries.
Just what we needed!
We couldn't have asked for anything better than the Bridge Cabin! We were welcomed from the beginning and even allowed to check in early! The cabin was so clean and cozy - we didn't want to leave. The bed was so comfortable I wanted to just live in it! We had everything we needed and even our 13 month old had a blast. It was so quiet, peaceful and we were able to just relax and enjoy ourselves. We can't wait to come back in cooler weather so we can use the giant wood-burning fireplace in the cabin and the fire pit in the backyard.
we love the home and location

Kishauwau cabins are cozy and quite. This was our first vacation with our dog. Cory had plenty of room to enjoy the great outdoors. It's only 15 minutes away from Starve rock. Cabin are fully equip and ready for fun. Owner are nice and there are plenty of videos to borrow.
Family of four
Very nice cabin for a family of 4
We had vary nice time at Kishauwau. Our cabin was great we had everything we needed to cook a quick meal and relax and enjoy a movie. There is a hiking trail near the cabins and it goes directly to the river-very nice. The place is close to Starved Rock State park where we went hiking too. Our 10 and 16 years old boys liked our little trip and the place we stayed too. It is great little get away for family of four.
Exactly what we were looking for!
Awesome, relaxing, quiet! Perfect anniversary getaway.
great stocked kitchen,
large fridge to fit all our food for the week
Cozy, great a/c (its was 100 degrees when we were there)
tons of movies available in the office
Close to hiking, target/restaurants
We will be going back next year, and are planning a trip with a group of friends to stay in one of the bigger cabins.
There aren't many cabin in the area, other than the ones one the National Parks grounds...Kishauwau on the Vermillion is private and a great price with more accommodations...Go here!
This was our third time here and as always, it's a pleasant experience. Very quiet and great place to unwind. Cabin was clean and the staff friendly as always. Will definitely return.

Escape the madness and decompress in these quaint and comfy cabi
Cabins are comfortable and make for a nice country home away from home. You will appreciate the a/C on hot august nights and I'm sure the wood-burning stove is wonderful in the fall/winter. Patios are nice for visiting or simply taking in the sights and sounds of nature. The newly renovated Bridge cabin is especially nice. You only need groceries, unless you eat out for every meal, and toiletries. It's only a short ride to Starved Rock for hiking and/or restaurants and the small town of Utica has a few restuarants to choose from. The bonus for those wanting to disconnect, there is little to no cell service on the campground.
It felt like I was right at home.
Cabin was very clean, service was friendly. The home was awesome, did not have to bring much to enjoy my stay. The surroundings were well kept, and was very peaceful. The best part was the peace and quiet.
Clean, private, and peaceful.
Our stay in this cabin was exactly what we were hoping for. Upon check-in the cabin was exactly as pictured and very clean. We were especially happy to be able to bring our family dog with us. The furnishings were totally comfortable and the setting was beautiful. Even though there are other cabins on the property, they are spaced far enough apart that you enjoy the privacy of your own space. We especially enjoyed having our morning coffee in the porch swing each day. We hope to return in the winter and take advantage of the fireplace. We have already recommended this resort to our friends as it is a great place to get away from all the hustle and bustle of daily living and simply enjoy the beauty of the area.
Camping with Grandsons
I have been taking my 2 grandsons camping for the last 4 years. Kishauwau is by far the best place we have stayed. There are plenty of places to go hiking and fishing. The cabin is very spacious and the owners have everything you need. The variety of movies to watch free of charge is unbelievable. The cabin was very clean and the area is well maintained. Cabin is quiet and peaceful place to stay.
Great place for a family reunion!
Great place for a family reunion! Our cabin was very comfortable and clean. Our only complaint is when we called to confirm reservations we had to leave a message and no one returned our call.
Rock Island, IL
The most peaceful and relaxing get away we have ever had.
The staff was very helpful and friendly and we absolutely loved the cabin. Everything we needed was right there. We had a great time we loved it. We are definately going back! Make sure you take everything you need because the closest store is 20 minutes away.
East Peoria, IL
This place was amazing and far exceded my expecations!! Everything we needed was there for us.. which made packing a breeze. It's quiet and peaceful, and very close to Starved Rock! I wish we could have stayed for a week!!! I will definitely be returning and telling my friends!!
Mom/Dad and 2 Kids
Nice, quiet stay.
Our family was looking for an inexpensive family cabin in a quiet area, and that's what we found. Great scenery near the river adjacent to cabins. Our cabin was well-maintained and clean. The grounds were also well-maintained. No TV reception, but you can rent Dvd's at main office if you need some TV time in your cabin. A lot of birds and small animal watching can be done in mornings from front porch swing. Owner's dog (Cookie) might even stop by your cabin to say hi. Very relaxing location close to Starved Rock and other state parks in area. We would visit again.

The cabin was very clean and nice. The Staff and owners were friendly and courteous. I would definitely visit again in the near future.
We loved our cabin..it was clean and very cute. The grounds are beautiful and very quite. My husband and i had hoped to do some rafting while there however the water was too low and that was very disappointing. We drove around hoping to find something to do but there is absolutely nothing to do in the area. If you just want the peace and quite i definitely recommend staying at Kishauwau but if your looking for things to do forget it. Read more
Response from Kishauwau Country Cabins - 06/29/2012
We are thrilled to hear you loved the cabin but I sure wish I knew you were looking for some outdoor adventure. There is a place called Zip Chicago about 35 mins. from us on Rte. 6, there is also horseback riding or a nature tour at Cedar Creek Ranch about 15mins. from us on Rte. 71, also canoeing on the Vermilion about 15 mins. from us or canoeing on the Fox River about 40 mins. from us. I always work with people to try to find them things to do. I do hope you consider this area again. This was an unusual year for the rafting to be shut down so early. Take care. Terisa King

A yearly anniv trip to the Bridge Cabin recharges our batteries
We absolutely love the Kishauwau cabins! We've come four or five years now, usually on our anniversary for a few days of relaxation and rekindling of love. The hosts are so kind and personable, available for anything we might need, but also giving us complete privacy during our stay. We even came one year with extended family after a death in the family and stayed in the large cabin...it was so wonderful. We can't say enough good...always sparkling clean, comfortable, love the upgrades in the Bridge Cabin, neighbors are far enough away that it feels private. Someone even got engaged while we were there this time; it was so exciting!!! Love was in the air! Thank you so much.

We enjoyed every minute of our time here. It was so
peaceful and quiet. It had everything we needed.
It is so clean and very cozy.
Great spot for a family reunion.
Just got back from a family reunion and we had a great time. There was plenty to do nearby and the cabins were clean and comfortable.
We absolutely loved this place and are already trying to figure out another time we can visit. The cabin had everything we needed and it was exactly the peaceful getaway in beautiful surroundings that we were hoping for. The fact that we could bring our dogs with us made it even more of a home away from home - such a good time!
The cabin is very clean, Great State Parks nearby, just relaxing and quiet time
I had the best time and so relaxing. Our cabin was so clean and cozy. We didn't want to leave. Swing on the front porch was so nice. Hike along the river was awsome found a tree that was shaped like a huge humming bird. That night my husband took his telescope out and seen another galaxy he was so excited. The firepit was great. We will be back!!!
Private and serene getaway in a beautiful setting
If you really want to get away from everything (including TV, internet and phone) this is the place!! We wanted a quiet setting to relax and de-stress and we found it! Just a few miles from Kishauwau, Starved Rock was a great place for hiking the trails and enjoying the scenery. The cabin was perfect. Each cabin is set a bit apart from the other, so there was plenty of privacy, and the cabin provided all the amenities of home in a cozy setting. We will definitely be back to "unwind"!!

A Hidden Treasure
Another enjoyable stay at Kishauwau. The staff is great an you have all the comforts of home. Stayed in the Mother in Laws cabin and just loved the view of the pond. Our little dog (Tasha) also enjoyed the grounds and swinging on the porch swing. The beauty of the grounds is so relaxing. We already have anothe booking in 4 months and can't wait to go back. Really enjoyed the fire pit at night. So peaceful surroundings and you won't be disappointed. Bernie & Terry!!
Everything and more
Our stay was everything we imagined and more. The ambience was great and the quiet, private surroundings with fish pond, DVD collections and firewood provisions were very convenient. The owners made sure we were comfortable and catered to our needs. Very relaxing to spend time with family without interruption. We give it two thumbs up.
Perfect city getaway in the woods!
The Bridge cabin was just what we were looking for! The grounds are really nice with a hiking trail running along the Vermilion River. Kishauwau is off the grid, so there was no cell service or internet. This was fine as they have a wall of Dvds and VHS in the office, and the town of Utica is nearby if you need intermittent cell service (or ice cream). The owners are always available and we were very nice as well! We had a great stay!
Relaxing, private get away with the comforts of home.
We stayed at Kishauwau while hiking the Starved Rock area. The cabin we rented was clean, spacious, and comfortable. There was a nice cast iron indoor fireplace for when we wanted to stay inside and a nice firepit outside to roast hot dogs. The kitchen was very nice as we were able to cook meals and relax at the cabin after a long day hiking. The owners were friendly and helpful, but let you have your privacy. The office was nicely stocked with snacks and Dvd's for the kids. Prices were extremely reasonable.
Another great stay at Kishauwau
Our fifth (or maybe sixth) stay at Kishauwau, and our fourth in the Mother-in-law cabin. We like it here because we can make all of our meals in the cabin and save money.
We like to sit around the campfire and hike here and at Starved Rock & Mathiessen. We'll definitely be back.
Want to return!
This was our first stay at Kishauwau-and we hope to be back. We thoroughly enjoyed the beautiful grounds, peaceful atmosphere, well stocked and clean cabin. In the evening we built a fire in the fire pit. There is one for each cabin. Ours also had a wood burning stove which we didn't use.
When it rained at night we sat on the covered porch on a porch swing - nice & dry-still enjoying the outdoors.
It is close to the state parks-- a big plus.
The owner was very pleasant and accommodating.
Liked the privacy and quiet natural beauty of Kishauwau. Loved that this place has a "family" atmosphere. Across the way there was a larger group renting -with children. We could hear their noises in early evening while they played outside. But we didn't mind a bit-- they were having good fun. It was quiet again by 8 or 9pm---and we were not disturbed by any kind of loud & rowdy "party" noise. Thank you Kishauwau owners!
we had a wonderful mini stay in our cabin!
Loved everything about it! Close to everything and still secluded when in our cabin.

Beautiful and relaxing
Our stay was wonderful, we could not have asked for a better weekend. The cottage was clean and stocked with everything we did not bring. Great place!
As we entered Kishauwau, the stress drifted away. The grounds are very well maintained and it is full of mature trees. Check-in was a breeze. Our cabin was clean and very comfortable. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook. The wood stove was lovely. The bed was really comfortable with nice, soft sheets. I wouldn't have changed a thing!
This property is quiet, clean, pleasant, family-owned, and very
This is an old boy scout camp of cabins, charming, lovingly refurbished and very clean cabins. Nothing fancy, but has all the amenities I could ever want to make me comfortable for days or weeks. The owners on on property and thoroughly connected to the place, to each of the cabins, and to caring for everything accordinly. The cabins are very close to both Matheison and Starved Rock State Parks, so this is a real find in my book. Most of all, I love the quiet, the cleanliness and the woodsy setting of Kishauwau.
We leave in the city and with a long winter and the kids being held up inside we decided we needed to get away and get them out of the house. We never thought going hiking and staying in a cabin in the middle of winter would be that much fun? But oh how wrong we were!! the kids had an amazing time and enjoyed every second of the trip!mom and dad loved it just as much! we are so looking forward to going back during the summer months as well. everything went perfect from check in to check out to waking up in the morning to a bundle of wood outside our door to start up a morning fire! with everything you need for a trip away with out packing that much was a big help. the cabin had everything you could think of that you would need to feel like you were at home. It was so nice to only worry about packing cloths and food. We would recommand this place to any one that is looking for a quite get out of the busy life of the city get away.
Eagle Watching and cozy fires...
The cabins at Kishauwau are more than the website can portray. The setting is idyllic and peacefully quiet. The cabin is cozy and so well kept. Everything that you need for your stay is there, even a few extras that you didn't even think of. The folks that run the place are super friendly and the kids were so excited by everything they found. All that they want to know is when we get to go back!
Nice cozy, clean cabin
We were very impressed from the moment we walked in. Very clean and cozy. This year instead of Christmas presents we decided on a week end getaway and we were very pleased with our choice. We found plenty of things to do during the day and enjoyed our cabin at night. We are already planning on another visit this spring.
We love this place!
My family and I have been coming here for years now. The cabins are always spotless and well stocked with supplies, everything is always in great working order, and the staff treats you like family. We love the seclution of the cabin sites and they are spacious from the other cabins on the premises. It is truly a great getaway place for singles, couples and families.
The three R's - rest, relax, and reflection
We stayed in the "Mother-in-law" cabin with another couple for a weekend, which made for close quarters - luckily we all knew each other for a long time. We all have very stressful jobs so getting away from the stress of reality is just what the doctor order. It was great! It was great to be able to get away from the city and have piece and quiet. We chose to bring food in and this was a good choice for us. Quick easy meals were the way to go. Everything was clean and available. We enjoyed the fire in the wood burning heater which kept us all nice and warm. Plenty of amenities (and plenty of pennies to find!) We all had a great weekend and would recommend it to anyone and everyone. Probably the only minor problem -- I would recommend checking the wood. The wood we got the first night didn't burn very well the first night - not seasoned very well. Everything else was perfect! We slept on the futon, which was fine -- the other couple had the queen bed. No problem there. Everything was very clean.
great place to get away
This was our first timehere and we will be back for many more visits. The cabin was very cozy and family friendly. We enjoyed watching movies and playing games. The wood stove was the perfect addition to the cabin. The cabin is also pet friendly so that was nice not having to worry about finding a place for our pet. The staff is very friendly. We look foward to many visits to come. Thankyou again for the pleasant stay.
Quiet and super clean
My husband and I were pleasantly surprised with our cabin. Honestly, it was much cleaner than many hotels we've stayed in. It felt homey and comfortable. And the surroundings were gorgeous and serene. It's really a great place to get away from stress and focus.

The cabins and grounds were well maintained and it was nice to have a fully equipped kitchen. We will keep coming back because it is dog friendly.

Autumn colors in the hills, enjoyed from a quiet cabin
This was our 12th trip to Kishauwau, and we enjoyed it greatly. The cabin was comfortable, clean, and quiet, the manager very pleasant, and the autumn colors were wonderful. We hiked on the property's trail by the river, and visited an orchard and the state park. A great weekend.
Harmony with Nature
I sat by my fire enjoying the sounds of nature (coyotes, raccoons crickets, frogs, etc) I awoke in the morning where I enjoyed my home made breakfast on the front porch. If you enjoy the outdoors you will have a fantastic time at Kishauwau on the Vermilion cabin rentals Kishauwau on the Vermilion cabin rentals

Delightful Respite in Central Illinois
This was our second stay at Kishauwau, and the first in this cabin. Very comfortable. The cabins are not crowded together so there is a sense of privacy. Probably the cleanest and most well-maintained cabins and grounds we've been at. Dogs are allowed in some cabins which makes us happy as we love to bring Rocky. Rocky loves Kishauwau too! Expect to return many more times. Highly recommended!!
had a very enjoyable experience
had a great time service was great,if u needed something they were there but would not bother you other wise, home we stayed in was very nice very clean, location was far enough away to have peace and relaxation but also close enough to other activities.all in all a great experence already planning to come back next year and hopefully bring some friends
Great weekend at Kishauwau on the Vermillion
We really enjoyed our stay at the Kishauwau cabins. Nice clean cabins with a friendly and helpful staff will keep us coming back to stay here.

Cabin is nicely updated from the last time we visited over two years ago. Only problem was there was the same recliner there that had busted springs and no support. It was also there the last time we stayined, but we forgot to mention it. We mentioned that before we left to Britney and the cleaning crew.
Love staying there and its nice we can bring our pet which is very appreciated. It would be nice to have some basic TV available especially when staying there for a longer period.
Will be back many times over. Thanks for having such a nice place for us city people to come to. !!!

Peaceful & restorative getaway
My husband and I loved the cabin experience, along with our scottie who travels with us whenever possible. Cooking, reading, walking, and fishing are all simple activities but so much more enjoyable amidst beautiful trees, fresh air, and natural beauty. It is hard to find quiet these days..we truly enjoyed "cranking up the silence."
Our Quiet Getaway!
My husband and I have been visiting for years and we just love the escape from the city life! This was the first year we brought our almost 3 year old and she loved it as well! We are looking forward to next year's visit and highly recommend it to anyone! The King family is wonderful, hospitable and just good people.
Mt. Prospect, IL
A perfect getaway!
This was our 35th stay at Kishauwau.
We love it!
We had a great time
All was great, the cabin was very clean and comfortable, the only thing that we did not lot us was the clubs falling on the roof and making a lot of noise.
The best vacation stay ever
From the moment we turned onto the property everyone connected with the resort done whatever they had to to makecour stay the best ever. I have to admit that it was a little chore to find the property, but with the help of the visitor center we found our way. I don't know where you could get this class of accommodation for the cost. This cottage was cleaner than our home, and that id saying something if you knew my wife. Thing like the bathroom towels, which felt like velvet, bed linen that felt like silk, these are the quality that we found.
We are already planning to come to the Starved Rock area again, and you lay money on the fact that we will be staying there again
to everyone at Kiahauwau on the Vermillion--thanks for a A wonderful place to stay.
North Suburbs of Chicago
Relaxing Spot for Couples or Families
We have been staying at this family-owned get-away for 12 years. It is just the right combination of remote location and comfortable accommodations. With only movies (no TV) and dicey cell phone reception, our family quickly finds a slower rhythm of shared board games, camp fires, reading or just enjoying the lovely surroundings. There is a well stocked "library" of movies, games, puzzles and equipment to borrow and the owners are there to help and advise when you want it and leave you alone when you do not. If you do get a little cabin fever, the nearby Matheson and Starved Rock Parks offer great hiking. The town of Utica has quaint shops and restaurants including a winery, gourmet popcorn and the best ice cream. We started going when our children were young and they still like to join us there as adults. It is a great family atmosphere but also offers many cabins just for two with a large whirlpool and cozy wood stoves. If you live in or are traveling near the midwest, this is a great place to take a break, and enjoy the peaceful surroundings.
Starved Rock Holiday
Our stay at Terisa King's place was good. The cottages were clean and tidy. The grounds were really well maintained. It was conveniently located to get to the Starved Rock resort area for hiking and dining. The only drawback was no laundry facilities on the property. Otherwise, a lovely main office building with great amenities. A very nice family-owned place.
Bud & Marge
Simply relaxing and, enjoyable place.
This is certainly the premier place to stay in the Starve Rock corridor area. (*** stars)
very beautiful and peaceful place,I would recommend it to everyone!
This is a very clean, private vacation spot,
This is a great spot for an extended weekend, or a few days away from busyness. It works better in cooler weather, as there is no swimming area anywhere near there. Everything is thought out well there, and the cabins are kept up well. Their office has very little in the way of supplies, so plan ahead. But the staff are all very friendly and helpful, but don't interfere with your peacefulness. Prices are very reasonable too.

Excellent location, privacy, and service
What a great place to get away and still be able to bring our four-legged friend. The privacy and service was excellent, and the location was just ideal for vacationing, shopping, eating, and exploring Starved Rock and the other state parks. We look forward to visiting again soon.
Great family vacation!
This was a great experience for our first family vacation. The cabin was fantastic and located close to lots of fun activities -- state parks, rivers, apple orchard -- all free or reasonably priced. A fantastic time for the kids and adults. The cabin is comfortable, a good size, stocked with everything you need, and the kitchen and grill are great. This is a just a great getaway for a great value.

Excellent family-time in an awesome environment
This was an awesome stay. It had been a few years since we had been here since we have little kids (5 and 7)but the place was great. Quiet, peaceful, and rustic, we had a great time. The service was beyond awesome. It is like going back in time to when life was simpler and better. Thanks for everything.
Wonderful setting and experience
Very nice, clean, quiet cabins. The setting is tranquil and we had a wonderful time. I would strongly recommend this great facility.

Totally, a calm, quiet, relaxing vacation.
The Bridge cabin was beautiful. I loved the fact that the cabins were spaciously apart from eachother. Very clean, well taken care of camp ground which is closely located to the various State Parks and small towns.
A great time!
We took our two dogs to our little cabin in the woods and had just a great time. We hiked with them, watched videos with them, we cooked out at night and just got away from the every day stresses of life. We will return without a doubt.
"Camping" has never been this great!
I hesitate to write a review because I don't want my new secret spot to get booked up! The cabins at Kishauwau are what I've been looking for my entire life. I've been tent camping quite a lot but now that we have a small child we were looking for cabins to stay in near Starved Rock. These aren't bare bones like they have on the park - it's actually hard to call them cabins. These are lovely little houses set in the woods on a perfect quiet river. The owners have made a fantastic friendly setting close to so much to do, and we've already made plans to come back again in the fall.
We stayed in the mother-in-law cabin and it was simply wonderful! We live in Ottawa and did not realize what a hidden gem so close to home. No need to travel to Wisconsin when you can have a lovely cabin in a beautiful, quiet, serene setting, 30 minutes from home. We loved it!

Cute, Romantic, and Relaxing
We loved the owners at check in. They were both so friendly and fun. Their dog was super sweet and got along with our dog perfectly. We loved the walking trail right there, and the river was in our back yard too. The coy pond was so relaxing, and the 24/7 honnor system snack and movie area was the coolest thing we've ever seen. We cannot wait to come back! It was just wonderful.

Cozy place to unplug
Overall was a good experience and stay. Great place to unwind and unplug. Thought there would be a little more privacy. Also thought we would be a little more secluded from other guests. Staff were amazing and friendly and accommodations were very comfortable...thanks!
The cabin was just perfect for us with our 2 little dogs. It was newly renovated, clean and well furnished. The grounds were meticulously maintained and the cabins are a comfortable distance from each other so it provided privacy. Teresa and family were great hosts and tended to whatever we needed immediately. It was really a great experience. The only improvement that I would suggest is that the beds could be bigger. They listed "queen-sized" beds, but it seemed more like "double" sized beds. Aside from that, everything else was fine. We have been recommending these cabins to our friends.
Very Happy Mom
We booked the cabin as a last minute getaway for my family. We were absolutely amazed at house beautiful it was and everyone was extremely friendly. I will definitely be returning next year with more family. Ps My kids couldn't get enough of Cookie the resident dog!
We were very happy with the accomodations, the service we received from the staff, and the setting. The Bridge cabin was recently renovated with modern conveniences and well equipped with all items nessary for our stay. We enjoyed the peacefullness of being semi-secluded, yet within driving distance to many recreational activities.
We need this once a month!
I "Googled" pet friendly cabins in Illinois and was glad to find a place fairly close to home. After looking at the cabins online and checking the rate and availability I booked us for 3 nights. Our cabin was furnished with fresh clean linens and fully equipped kitchen. Outside our cabin is a very large coy pond with waterfall, so relaxing to sit by. The cabins are not on top of each other.
While the campground doesn't provide a lot for kids to do, there is so much to do within driving distance, quaint shops, good eats, state parks, Il river, etc.
We had the most relaxing 3 days we have had in a long time. We have 10 adult children so we were even glad we didn't have cell phone service!
We want to plan a trip back in the fall.
A Quiet and Relaxing Getaway
This is the third time we have come to Kishauwau. We come for the solitude and rest plus the location is just a few minutes away from Matthiessen and Starved Rock State Parks. The service is very friendly. We have never been disappointed with our stay.
Memorial Day Weekend getaway.
Really enjoy the cabins and location. Very close to Starved Rock State Park, yet off the path enough to avoid the massive crowds we ran into at the park. Cabin was very nice well furnished, plenty of room for the kids to run.
Ultimate simple getaway
The location is not far from Starve Rock State Park. The staff is vary helpful and willing to make your stay comfortable. This was our second time coming back, first time as a couple - second time around with a child. Both times we found ourselves connecting as a couple and as a family - a place where you have time for each other with board games, movies and making s'mores and a lots of room to run or hike around. Don't have the words to completely describe our stay other then great!!!

Clean, private, relaxing, get away in the woods!
My wife and I enjoyed our stay at Kishauwau on the Vermilion. We drove right up to our cabin which is spaced a good distant fron the other ones. The staff is very friendly and welcoming, their friendliness makes you feel at home.
I will not hesitate returning in the future.
Thank You Kishauwau on the Vermilion, keep up the good work.

My run away to cabin,
This was my third visit to the cabin. That along should tell you how much I love it. The owners are so friendly and helpful.

We enjoyed home away from home at the cabin in the woods.
Beautiful, peaceful, quiet surroundings.Close to hiking areas and several small towns. Frog pond was nice to enjoy as well as the free Dvds.
We have been going to Kishauwau for several years and have always enjoyed our trip. The cabins are clean and comfortable, the kitchen has every thing you need. Your privacy is respected, but if you do need something they are just a call away.
We will continue to stay at the cabins when we want to get away.
New Lenox, IL
Relaxing, tranquil, a beautiful restful weekend.
This is our third visit to Kishauwau and we have never been disappointed. Each time we stayed in a different cabin, brought our dog and it had everything we needed. A wonderful place to stay, with a very kind host and hostess.
My favorite place!
My husband and I have been coming to Kishauwau for almost 20 years. We have never been there that we did not have a great, relaxing time and come back to the city refreshed and happy. The owners of Kishauwau and the environment are a perfect combination. We hihgly recommend this very special place...nothing like it!
Ultimate relaxing, peaceful, rustic getaway
Kishauwau on the Vermillion is a wonderful escape. The cabins are clean, comfortable, and cozy. The location is gorgeous. The staff is friendly but also pretty much leaves you alone. We go at least twice a year (and we live in the area) just as a little escape from the everyday. The nearby town of Utica has great food, tourist shopping, local wines, and pubs. We spend our days hiking the trails at Starved Rock or Mathesien State Park, come back, throw some burgers on the grill, make a fire. It's quiet, peaceful, relaxing, and an amazing value for what you get. I highly recommend!
Great trip to the woods
We wanted to take a small vacation, but a place that we could bring our dogs to avoid the boarding fee. My husband has never been to starved rock so we wanted to stay nearby. The cabin was perfect. It was cozy and in the woods, although I didn't feel scared (I'm a scardy cat sometimes) because there were other occupied cabins nearby. Even though there are other cabins on the site, the distance b/w them still creates privacy. The hosts were very nice as well. We will certainly go back.
Easy get away near lots to do
This was our second great stay at Kishauwau. It's great to go to a cabin with the beds already made and paper towels stocked. No having to haul your own towels. If you want to unplug this is the place, no phones no cable. They do have free unlimited movie rentals from their office. Helpful service and no hassles. Close to great hiking inn state parks or just outside the cabin.

Rejuvenating peace and quiet
My wife and I had been looking for somewhere to go on a long weekend that would be quiet and peaceful and a place that would welcome our 16-month-old German shepherd. While surfing the 'Net for places, we stumbled upon Kishauwau on the Vermilion. What a find! Our cabin was spotless and comfortably furnished complete with cooking utensils and dishes. It's just a short drive away from Utica, IL, a small arts and crafts town with plenty of bars and restaurants if the mood suits you and a small grocery store. We wanted peace and quiet, and we found it there. Cabins are spaced not so far apart as to be remote, yet far enough apart to be private. We particularly enjoyed the walking trail down to the Vermilion river. Our puppy absolutely loved being in the woods, too! For the money, Kishauwau on the Vermilion is a fantastic place to relax and recharge. Terisa and Jamie were terrific hosts who never intruded on our solace, but were always available if we needed something. We'll be going back again!
