This, our second trip to Kishauwau Cabins, was again amazing. Once again, the owners were warm and helpful. We loved this cabin with its beautiful decor and charm. There were four of us, with plenty of room for all. The kitchen was truly fully equipped for cooking and baking. Even though temperatures were 20 and below, we still made an outdoor fire in the fire pit, as well as a fire in the indoor wood stove. These cabins are only minutes from Starved Rock State Park where we enjoyed hiking and plenty of eagle sightings. We can't wait to return in the near in the summer and fall! We have strongly recommended this place to our friends and family!

Owner
Cindy and Joe,
We are thrilled that you liked the Trading Post cabin and thank you so much for the kind words. That bathroom in that cabin is getting a facelift as we speak, it was just time for an update. You will definitely notice a difference if you rent that cabin again. Til next time,

Such a peaceful setting. We were able to bring the whole family and the dog and relax. We had a nice night around a fire the first night and while it rained the other two days we were there, we were still able to relax and play games/watch movies/etc. Everyone was friendly. We will definitely go back!

We had a great time, loved sitting around the fire and roasting smore's and telling jokes. Home was very clean and comfy. The one thing I would suggest is that you keep all food stored in air tight containers and wash all dishes. Due to the fact that there were mice, one got in to our donuts and another was running around the floor.
Went hiking on there trail and it was beautiful. We brought our 2 dogs and they loved being outside and enjoyed the cabin. Nice size cabin we had 4 adults and 2 dogs but there was room for 2 more people. Very comfy place. Will stay again. Husband and I want to come up for a romantic weekend away.

Left on 10/29/2012 for a stay in October 2012
The cabin was a good size for our family of four. Everything was clean and comfortable, and even though the weather didn't always cooperate we still had a good time. The only suggestion I have is maybe putting in a brighter light near the shower in the bathroom. It's a little dark in the shower area.

I recently rented the Trading Post Cabin for a Girl's Get-A-Way with my 2 sisters and 85 year old mother. The cabin was clean and well stocked with everything you might need for a long weekend (plenty of towels, kitchen utensils, deck chairs...) The grounds are beautiful, especially the Koi pond, and the whole place gives off an aura of peace and serenity. We enjoyed having nightly campfires and stargazing. The owners and staff were super friendly and helpful! We enjoyed Starved Rock State park, the river, lunch at Skoogs, dinner at the Port Canal, dessert at Nonie's, and the wine tasting room. The owners also had a huge collection of Dvds for anyone to borrow. We watched 6 romantic comedies!!! It was neat to see the honor system being used, as the guests had access to this collection 24 hours a day. We would highly recommend Kishauwau to anyone who wants to get away from it all. We hope to be able to come back again. Thanks for a truly memorable weekend with our mom! P.S. Cookie, the camp dog, is adorable!!

We love coming to Kishauwau for a quiet get-away! This is our 3rd year staying here...the first two years were just the two of us. This year we decided to bring the kids along to see what this beautiful place has to offer. We will still come back in the Fall to spend time here without the kids! The cabins are always well-kept, clean and quaint!

If you have every stayed in a fishing/hunting cabin...this is much more. This is almost like home away from home. Well maybe that is an exaggeration but it is really nice. I love the fact that the first sentence on the website is if you are here to party this is not for you. It is nicely kept up. Very quiet. Nice open area for the kids to play. Very clean. The towels are very soft. You need to read what is provided and what you need to bring. I am glad I saw this. Nicely located to the state parks. We are already looking for when we return.

Left on 08/02/2012 for a stay in July 2012
My husband and I stayed at the Trading Post cabin with our 3 kids ages 14, 12 and 8. We loved the one bedroom cabin with the open, spacious living area...especially loved the fully equiped kitchen. For us, the kitchen is a must have. The cabin was immaculate-no bugs or webs or dust of any kind. The grounds were beautiful and well kept and the cabins spaced a good distance apart. We loved walking around the property visiting the koi pond and taking the trail (it is pretty steep so it's not for everyone) down to the Vermillion River. Very pretty area! There is no wi-fi or TV channels or cell phone signal (we didn't miss it) in this particular cabin. They do have an amazing array of VHS tapes and Dvd's to choose from as well as games/puzzles/books at the office. The office is open 24 hours with a land line available, too. The owners are super nice and the area is very quiet. I would recommend bringing a couple flashlights and a Noaa weather radio. We did have a big storm our first night and had no idea if there were any watches or warnings...and the power went out twice. During our stay, we did visit Starved Rock and Matthieson State Parks. The parks are only 10-15 mins. away. Our favorite trail was in Matthiesson SP going down to the lower dells area (lots of stairs). The views in the canyons were beautiful and there were many areas to explore! We have been recommending this area to friends and will definitely be back!

The people were very friendly and helpful. The cabin we absolutly loved, very clean, spacious, and cozy. The location was great very private and away from the hussle and bussle of everday life, just what we were looking for, but felt so much like home, with the grill and firepit. The best thing was the koi pond and the cabin itself, and the honor system for movies and ice (don't see that anymore these days loved it. The least thing was no phone sevice of anykind, since I have an elderly mom (90) who lives with us and I had someone in to stay with her,I didn't like having no phone in case of an emergency.I wish they had land line in all the cabins and then charge it to our bill like hotels do. Just a thought. But we will for sure stay again in the future!!!

Left on 07/06/2012 for a stay in June 2012
I found our cabin roomy, clean and the kitchen sufficient. There were 6 of us girls, so one bathroom was a bit tight. We could have used at least a second mirror - maybe one in the bedroom? Could have used better reading lamps by the beds, we all like to read before falling asleep. Felt very private, had an outdoor grill, large selection of dvds for nightly movie after dinner and very close to the park for our daily hikes. It did have a musty smell, so an airfreshner was on our grocery list. Would come back again. My sister checked us in, so I never met the owners.

The cabin fit our immediate family needs quite well, and accommodated the whole clan for breakfast. It was a great location for the family reunion, with the variety of cabin sizes and fun "Wall of Movies" which was enjoyed by all generations. Getting to all the local attractions, Starved Rock, the bike trail, Matthiessen, the local disc golf course, was a breeze. Bring your own water for drinking.

It was wonderful to have a place that the whole family enjoyed. Loved the fact that we got away from TV, video games, and computers. And we loved being able to take our dog, so it was truly a family vacation!

We had an out-of-state, family guest who wanted to see some of the rural Midwest, including state parks. This was perfect. We were able to take hikes at both Mathiessen & Starved Rock State Parks. We also paddled a leisurely canoe trip on the nearby beautiful Vermillion River. We also brought our bikes and if we had enough time the I&M; Canal bike path was easily accessible in nearby Utica. After the day's activity it was pleasant to be able to quickly put together an easy satisfying meal in the convenient kitchen then settle down to work on one of their puzzles & watch a dvd, both easily obtained from the Main Building. It was also great to have our dogs with us. They really enjoyed the hikes, seemed very comfortable in the cabin, & they liked the park-like setting around the cabin.

We had another great stay at Kishauwau on the Vermillion. We had such a good time this spring, we returned for second visit between Christmas and New Years, piling mom, dad, the three kids and two dogs into the minivan and heading for central Illinois. The cabin was well-equipped and dog-friendly, with spacious grounds for romping and roaming. Close to spectacular hiking at Mathiessen and Starved Rock State Parks. What a wonderful time! My family of four (my husband and I and our daughters, 8 and 6) and our dog stayed in the Trading Post Cabin for 3 days leading up to Thanksgiving. It was our first visit but our girls have made us promise we'll return. We loved the solitude, the lack of cell service, the welcoming nature of all of the employees, the wood-burning stove and the great location near Starved Rock. The selection of movies is fun and having a full kitchen was super. The main bedroom's mattress is exceedingly hard, which is the only negative mark against the stay.

Kashauwau on the Vermilion (river)is the place to stay in the Starved Rock area. The accomodations and hospitality were the best I've ever had for a cabin stay. Plus, it is in a beautiful location with several (free) state parks nearby. Clean and roomy cabins with a fully loaded kitchen nestled in a private wooded area. We had our own campfire pit and porch which we used every night. Our boys loved the open areas to play and swing on an old fashioned tree swing. Cabins are spaced so there is plenty of privacy. This family run establishment is welcoming and everyone is very friendly. We hiked all day and relaxed by the fire at night. The office has many family friendly indoor and outdoor games as well. The resort was so quiet and peaceful...we cooked out every night and sat around the fire for hours. This was my first time staying here and I wasn't sure what to expect when packing and preparing. I was pleasently surprised with how well stocked the cabin was. A fully stocked kitchen, tons of movies, puzzles, games, etc. all we needed to bring was clothes and food. It rained our entire visit which might have been difficult being indoors with my seven year old son, but thanks to all the games, puzzles and movies it turned out to be a fun relaxing time for both of us. We spent our days sitting by the fire reading books, putting together puzzles and playing yahtzee and Uno. It was the perfect way to spend our spring vacation and we are already talking about returning next year.

Friendly family oriented staff and reasonable pricing. Lots of extras like videos/ Dvds, family games, lincoln logs, wood burning stove, wooded area with fire pit and grill.
Thank you so much for helping with my son's Discover america project. He included the supporting interview in his DVD along with several other interviews he had with Starved Rock employees. His presentation went well last night!
Hope to be able to come back to stay in your cabins again real soon! God Bless! Many Blessings, The Pecks -

I have already recommended this place to several friends and family members. We had such a good time. The place is beautiful (can't wait to go back in the summertime) and the staff is very accomidating.

We used this cabin as a resting place after long days of hiking at a nearby state park. The kids loved the twin beds built into the walls and there was lots of room for our family of 5 plus 2 dogs. The kitchen was great to have, especially since these cabins are located 12-15 miles from a grocery store and there were not many nearby restaurants that worked for younger kids. Very friendly, family owners. Wish there was a second bathroom, but this is available in some other cabins.
