Great vacation, wonderful house and caretakers!!!
Left on 05/08/2013 for a stay in April 2013
We recently stayed at The Pineapple House on Treasure Beach with two other couples. The accommodations could not have been better. Dave and Trish, the caretakers of the property lived just a few steps away and took care of our every need! We always travel together and dive and I have to say this is one of our top favorites. Everyone we came in contact with in Utila, from the Dive operators (Utila Cay Divers) to the restaurant owners, were second to none. Everyone wanted to make sure you had everything you needed and that you were able to see and do all the things of interest. I would go back today if I could. To all our friends in Utila, we will see you again very soon!

Left on 05/02/2013 for a stay in April 2013
Our group goes somewhere to dive every year. Mostly Bonaire, which we love, but I must say we loved Utila too. We couldnt believe the affordability of the vacation, and the house was amazing!!! We flew to Utila on a small plane from Roatan, and we were met by Dave, one of the Pineapple house caretakers. He was awesome! What a nice guy. He took care of everything, luggage, getting us to the boat to Treasure Beach, and he was our captain. His wife Trish met us at the dock and the two of them made sure we were happy all week.
We were sent a provision list prior to arrival, and the house was stocked with groceries, beer, wine, fresh fruit, everything you could ask for.
The Pineapple House, was clean, comfortable, spacious. The bedrooms and bathrooms were just as they appear in the pictures. All amenities were as they said they would be. The porch and beach were beautiful. We had coffee on the porch every morning and watched the pelicans fish. We had our own pier, and our dive shop picked us up every morning.
Dave and Trish recommended the dive shop, restaurants, a trip to water cay to sit on a sand bar, and all recommendations were great and a blast. We had many beers with Dave and Peter( chef and caretaker) and it was great. Peter came to the house and cooked for us, brought fresh fish and it was delicious and very reasonable. We also cooked our own fresh fish, which Dave brought to us upon request. We ate dinner on the beach at Chez Lola, owned by a lovely young French couple, and it was truly gourmet. I cant say enough about this trip, it was relaxing, fun and everything we hoped it would be. And to top it off we saw whale sharks!!!
Thank you to Dave, Trish and Peter( our tour guide in Utila) for a great time. Say Hi to Herman for us too...we promise to see you again. -

Thunder Bay, CanadaA treasure on Treasure Beach!
Left on 04/06/2013 for a stay in February 2013
In all the times we have been renting properties we expect that the home will be nice, the area will be interesting and the people will be friendly. That was not the case with this vacation. We stayed at the Pineapple House for a month and found that home was wonderful, the area was amazing and the people were exceptional. It took us a large plane, a medium plane, a little plane, a golf cart and a boat to get to our destination so that in itself was an adventure. When we were met by the best hosts in the entire world, Dave & Trish, we did not know at the time what we were in store for.
First of all the house has everything you need. It has a great kitchen to cook in. We shopped at Bush’s Market in Utila Town for all our grocery needs. The snorkeling in the front of the house was the best we ever had. We could even walk along on the dock and see barracuda, little rays, parrot fish, a little octopus, squid just to name a few. We spent many hours on the upper level of the deck in the most comfy lounge chairs reading and just taking in the view. Many nights ended there with watching the sun set and star gazing. Who needs tv? We visited Water Cay to swim and lay in the sand, Pigeon Cay to have a cerveza or two at Herman’s Restaurant and Fish Burgers Restaurant. We spent a day going to Cayos Cochinos, a marine biological reserve, which was absolutely amazing. There was spectacular diving there and then an amazing lunch at the Garifuna village of Chachahuate. In Utila Town we had tasty Mexican cuisine at El Picante, a great breakfast at Charlotte’s Place and wandered through the Jade Seahorse which words cannot describe. Then there was Skid Row Bar, the place we usually ended up at on our Utila Town visits. A most unique place that provided us with hours of entertainment visiting with people from all over the world and all walks of life and where pizza was the best.
We had dinner a number of times at Pine Point on the south shore at Chez Lola. Sebastian and Lola, make your time with them an experience and you should not miss the opportunity of going there. We did 28 dives with Bogdan, dive master and owner of Utila Cays Diving. He was one of the most safety conscious and informative dive masters we have had the pleasure of diving with.
All of these adventures would not have been possible without the expertise of Dave & Trish. The knowledge they provided while we were there of this beautiful little island was second to none. They were just around the corner if we needed them. They definitely took care of us. Dave would have even parted with his kettle had we needed one! These colourful people could make something happen that we never do….return to the same place!
Thank you to the owners for sharing your property and thank you for having Dave & Trish there. We left this island with more than pictures……we left with new friends………..and something that took us a month to learn…….South shore rules!!! -

"Polly put the kettle on", where do we start?! The Pineapple house has changed our entire expectations and vision of holidays. We had the most amazing adventure on Treasure Beach and Beyond. Dave and Trish, most colourful, wonderful caretakers, who assisted us in so many ways-sightseeing, hooking us up with Bogden, Utila Cays Diving owner and Dive Master, who was excellent, taking us to "Chez Lola's" for gourmet meals 4 times, Delicious, highly recommend it, a day at Water Cays-a pristine white, sandy beach, isolated island, where we snorkelled, sunned and relaxed until sunset. Trips to Utila town, a wonderful cultural experience, always ending up at Skid Row Bar, our favourite, the name says it all!!
Treasure Beach is beautiful! Some of the most amazing fish and coral life can be seen right out front! The Pineapple house is beautiful and had everything we could possible need! We will definitely be returning. We would like to thank Bogden, Katherine, Sebastian, Lola, Peter, and most especially Dave and Trish, for making our month long vacation something we will never forget! -

Sarnia, CanadaParadise and Relaxation at Pineapple House
Left on 03/03/2013 for a stay in February 2013
We spent a week at Pineapple House with friends. Trish and Dave took great care of us. They were always available. Trish and Dave are knowledgeable about the island and will take you in town and suggest dinner places if you would like to go out for dinner. We strongly suggest Lola's and Utopia. We did diving and kayaking, lazed in the water, relaxed, took in the plant and animal life around us. Wonderful experience. We suggest you have Dave and Trish get the groceries before hand. Very happy to have a stocked fridge after a long trip to get to Pineapple House. Nice adventure. Well taken care of. Two of the four were bit by "no seeums/sandflees". Suggestion made that we take vitamin B12 two weeks before. Made sure we had bug spray, antihisthemine, and calamine lotion. Bugs the worst at dawn and dusk.
Beautiful views and very Relaxing - Highly Recommend this place. We will be back! -

Amazing secluded tropical beach!
Left on 01/13/2013 for a stay in November 2012
Staying at the Pineapple House is a truly fantastic life experience! My husband and I stayed for a week in November and delighted in the beautiful home, friendly caretakers, Dave and Trish, and the feeling of living on our own private beach. From the time of our arrival by boat from the other side of the island we were completely relaxed and able to enjoy the view from the porch, snorkel in the pristine coral reef in front of the house and walk the beach looking for shells. The accommodations are elegant. Laurence and Beth have done a fabulous job of decorating this home in a style that is at once casual and grand. It was fun to cook in the huge kitchen and to share a meal with Dave and Trish. We got delicious fresh fish on our first day on the island and were able to go into town to go shopping, although Dave will do this for you if you prefer. This house is perfect for a couple, a small family or two couples. There is opportunity to explore, meet the neighbors, go to the Cays (Cayas Cochinos) or just hang out and relax. It was wonderful to have access to a washing machine. Internet access is limited but Trish will help you if you need to be connected. Please consider donating to Bica (Bay Islands Conservation association) to help conserve this area of the world. We highly recommend this gorgeous home for your stay on Utila.

We had a lovely honeymoon at the pineapple house. The snorkeling in front of the house was fantastic, with a beautiful array of tropical fish. The private pier was a great place to get a cool breeze or watch the stars. The house itself is right on the beach and very comfortable. Dave and Trish were lovely hosts. They know the meaning of service. They know all ins and outs of the island. The fishing trip they arranged for us with Mr. Herman was a lot of fun. Fresh caught grouper is delicious! The deserted island they took us to was also a highlight. We cant wait to return to the pineapple house! We highly recommend it.

This place is gorgeous! The house and the surrounding country, is picture perfect. Walk out of the house, into the water start snorkeling. We loved our time there and are already planning a trip back. Trish and Dave were wonderful and couldn’t have been more accommodating and fun. But you’ve read all the reviews (all true) and of course you can see the pictures; however, I’m going to tell you what I’m planning on doing differently when we come back in order to avoid some issues so that others might benefit. Use a sun block with an insect repellant such as Bull Frog Mosquito Coast, SPF 30. Keep applying!! Sunburn, sand fleas & mosquitoes were our main issue, but if you keep up a constant defense, you’ll be fine. While snorkeling, I fell into coral trying to get into my kayak covering my body in coral rash and my husband didn’t keep his sun block applied and burned his backside. This time, when stocking the house for us, I’ll be asking for vinegar to help deactivate the toxins from the coral in case this happens again. I’ll also be bringing ibuprofen, Benadryl & cortisone cream to help with the reactions to all of the above. Pack multiple sarongs. There is nothing better when either burned or covered in coral rash, to hang out in. My husband wore nothing but my sarongs all week! When getting off the catamaran to go the airport, ask the cab drivers “how much” for the ride in front of the drivers and make them haggle or you’ll be paying a lot more than you should once you get to the airport. Do not miss your flight. There are limited flights out of atlanta to Honduras and you’ll end up spending a lot of money trying to get re-routed and miss valuable relaxation time. Thanks so much to the Pineapple House team for helping us when we missed our flight!! We loved our week there and can’t wait to get back!!!

As our boat made it's way to our private dock, we knew it was perfect: The sand beneath our afeet, fresh salt in the air, and not a neighbor in site. The Pineapple House is warm and as as our boat made it's way to our private dock, we knew it was paradise: The sand beneath our feet, fresh salt in the air, and not a neighbor in site. The Pineapple House is warm and inviting, as we entered the kitchen area with fresh fruit displayed ever so elegantly. Each bedroom was spacious and serene; Tranquility in its purest form. Treasure Beach is your ideal Island; a home away from home. Crystal waters and barrier reefs for miles; Nature at it's best. Dave & Trisch are two amazing caretakers who will make your trip worth traveling. We had an ideal balance of privacy & "fun in the sun". From site seeing on the main island of Roatan, to Lion Fish Hunting along the shores of Utila; we never found ourselves without an adventure! Whether you like to cook your own meals or have a chef at your every beck and call; The Pineapple House caters to your every need. Dave & Trisch made our stay so memorable; a trip we would never forget! Not to mention that Dave cooked an amazing dinner for us our last night. With that said, stay at your own risk, cause I’m sure you you'd want to stay forever.

We had a spectacular week at Pineapple House. Beautiful beach, gorgeous blue water just as it looks in the photos. The snorkeling is amazing- right from the beach or even better from the dock. Dave & Trish were awesome! Their help & availability made the trip much better than if we were on our own. And they are great company also! We learned so much more about the area from talking to them. Dave & Trish know so many people and it was fun to hang out with some of the locals & hear some interesting stories. As a singer/songwriter, I appreciated Dave going way beyond the call of duty by getting me booked at the Tranquil Bar in Utila town & access to a guitar so I didn't have to drag mine along on planes, boats, & taxis.
Our kids were able to experience a culture quite different from ours. That's just not possible in a tourist area. In my opinion, the people of the Bay Islands are friendly, welcoming, and hard-working (though most are extremely poor). Aside from the crystal clear water, white sand, and beautiful house, the bustling Utila town was an interesting place. We visited iquana station & Jade Seahorse. Dave also arranged a taxi for us when we stepped off the ferry in La Ceiba on our way to Copan Ruinas. It gave us great peace of mind while being in a foreign land & not speaking the language. We were feeling very lost and worried because of problems with bus tickets to San Pedro and Dave & Trish made a valiant effort to help with that. We can't thank them enough!!! What makes Treasure Beach so very special is that it's not as easily accessible as most vacation spots but it is worth the extra traveling to reap the benefits. And the water is perfect for comfortable snorkeling!!! I forgot to mention we saw a whale shark before ever getting to the property.
*The questions about directions and key pickup under the 'booking and arrival' section below are Na because from minute you set foot on Utila, you are personally escorted to the property & handed the key. -

Staying at the Pineapple House for a week was truly one of the most wonderful, relaxing and enjoyable vacations I have ever had.
If what you're looking for is room service, resort style restaurants, bars and hundreds of strangers this is not the place for you. However, if what you're looking for is beautiful nature at it's best and most peaceful, a place to truly escape the rat race, a living space that has the highest level of interior design but is still inviting and calming, interesting locals and a vacation where you really can do as much or as little as you want...the Pineapple House is most definitely the place for you.
The house is fully stocked with your groceries when you arrive, so it couldn't be easier and Dave is always on hand to help you if you need something else.
It really is that simple. It really is Paradise Found.Response from TREASURE BEACH - 06/14/2012

I just spent a week at the Pineapple House with my husband and our 2 girls (ages 2 & 4). It was an amazing experience for all us!! We had wanted to totally escape and relax and this was certainly achieved!! The house was amazing - even nicer than the pictures portrayed. The coral reefs right off the dock provided hours of entertainment for our entire family...water is so clear that we could see all the marine life without even getting in the water. We watched an octopus for 20 minutes from the dock- and that is something we will never forget!! We took the kayaks out, and that was easy to do even with small children (we brought our own life jackets).
Dave and Trish were great!! They definitely took care of us and were genuinely concerned about us and wanted to do everything possible to make sure we were having a good time. We had a little plumbing issue, and that was care of promptly. Peter, the boat driver, was also great. He was very professional and showed up when he said he would be there. And he delivered us fresh fish to our doorstep everyday for only $10...Awesome!!
I would definitely recommend this house if you are looking to escape your everyday life and want to completely relax.
We will be coming back!! -

It is my pleasure to leave a review for the Pineapple House on Treasure Beach. My wife and I spent the holidays there with another couple and had one of the best vacations in recent memory. From the moment that we booked the house, the property managers (Dave and Trish) were quick in making sure that our arrival would be as comfortable as possible. Dave helped us book our flights to and from the island from San Pedro Sula, schedule activities, stocked the fridge with our pre-ordered provisions (Flor de Cana is a must), and acted as the general travel ambassador for the island which was great. Upon arriving at the house, it was very clean and comfortable and we instantly felt at home. The most difficult decision that we had to make each day was to kayak and visit the cays, snorkel in the great reef off the dock, or read a book on the porch- all a great break from the normally hectic life we have in the States. There was plenty to keep us busy if we wanted- we ended up going into town several times via boat (Peter, one of the caretakers, lives on the cays across from the house and is more than happy to take you into town or bring fresh fish from the cays for a reasonable price), deep sea fished for Wahoo, hunted the invasive lionfish with Dave and the Bay Island Conservation association, and frequently kayaked 20 minutes to Water Cay which has a great sand bar. All locals and ex-pats we met were extremely friendly, generous and more than willing to share their experience or give us advice on what to see during our short stay. To top it all off, we had 8 days of dry and sunny weather at the end of December! Because it was the end of the rainy season, sand fleas were an issue and I would recommend Off Deep Woods to keep them off. Some of us had worse reactions to them than others but it never ruined our time outside as long as we protected ourselves. To wrap it all up, stay here, we will be back in the near future so we can relive one of the best vacations we have been on at Treasure Beach. Thank you to all who made that possible!

After the excitement of Roatan, taking Captain Vern's yacht to Utila was like entering Paradise. Beautiful white sandy beaches and lush trees framing a house that was absolutely breathtaking. It was such a treat to enter the Pineapple house for the first time. Elegantly appointed rooms, a kitchen my wife would kill for at home, and absolutely gorgeous wood flooring throughout. The views from the wrap around deck were amazing, allowing one to look out into the Carribean, read, snooze, or whatever your heart could desire. We were so excited to snorkle, it was my wifes first time, and the reef right off the beach was amazing, we saw every color of the rainbow in the reef fish as well as barracuda and sting rays.
The staff that serviced the house were always responsive and absolutely the best; happy and willing to help us access the island, the town, and the sites the island had to offer. We are so thankful that Laurence and David and Peter in making our trip to Paradise perfect. -

We spent one of the best weeks ever at Pineapple House. The house was perfect for my family of six (four children 8-15). The property manager was beyond helpful and the owner was a tremendous asset. We did nothing but relax in the sun everyday and eat fresh seafood. Pictures could not describe the beauty of the house, water and island. The people of the island were friendly and despite the State department Honduras warnings we felt perfectly safe. Perfect get away if you want to get off the grid and have no outside influences in your life. One of the most relaxing vacation in years. We travel six weeks a year to the islands and this is by far one of the best. The trip was an adventure worth repeating. No significant negatives except you must remember to have enough cash to pay the Honduras departure tax (about $40 us per person) and the fee to have the groundskeeper run you into town I felt was overpriced considering people from the island 50yds away went back and forth all day and I am sure do not pay $60. Other than these two issues, I can't say enough positives.

to whom it may concern. my husband and i just returned from a wonderful stay at the pineapple house on utila. no crowds, no traffic, no noise. just an empty beach, palm trees and a lovely new house. we rented as a two bedroom and it was perfect. we had some rain showers and some very hot days but when the breeze blew we opened all the doors around the balcony, it was like an open pavilion and there was no need for the a/c. the house has lovely furniture, kitchen etc., the bedroom was romantic(four poster bed) and comfy and the bathrooms very nice. most days were spent snorkeling the reef in front of the house, sunbathing and drinking salva vida, the local beer. the sunsets from the deck above the dock were beautiful (nice and private if you like to sunbathe au natural). we also scuba dived with capt. morgans, they do a two tank dive each morning and picked us up/dropped us off in their boat. we grilled fish most days, ate at utopia resort a couple of times and danced and drank rum with the locals on the cay one night, which was tons of fun and quite a cultural experience. peter the caretaker and dave steffens the rental agent took good could care of us and peter took us to water cay one day, he then came back at the end of the day to pick us up, we had the whole island to ourselves and sitting in the water watching the sunset was awesome (note to owner:- the house needs a cooler to carry beers on boat trips). this was our second trip to the island and we're so happy we chose to stay out of town this time, it was a completely different ( better) experience.

Wonderful, Fabulous, Beautiful! Only a few of the things I could say about The Pineapple house
It would take a year to explain how wonderful our stay at The Pineapple house became. We were greeted at the dock by Laurence, our guest and as it turned out a good friend. At The Pineapple house we were welcomed by peace and nature with its coconut palms
The Pineapple house has so much wonderful character within its walls. The history of how it became, was intriguing and very interesting.
The villa is exquisitely decorated and yet we felt right at home. We stayed 7 days and wanted to stay a few more after we settled in.
We are already scheduling our next trip to the Pineapple house. The Pineapple house is for those that like peace and quiet from the everyday rat race.
The grounds at The Pineapple house are detailed in beautiful trees, almond, coconut, and banana palm trees.
the beach is clean and the reef is astounding, just a few feet away from the shore.
highly recommended!

We were greeted by the very pleasant and knowledgeable David Steffan with
Utila Apartment Finders upon landing at the airport. David gave us a great
tour of town and lots of advice before shuttling us by boat to the pineapple
house. We were delighted upon our arrival to see the fridge and shelves fully
stocked for the week. The house is just beautiful with excellent views and
top notch construction throughout. The shutters are screened in to prevent
bugs from getting in, but still let the ocean breeze roll through. There is
also air conditioning throughout.
Just down the beach there is a resort called Utopia Dive Village, they are an
all inclusive diving resort but the owner of the pineapple house (Laurence)
advised us that they are happy to have guests for drinks and dinner. We
advise going down the day before to let them know you'll be joining them.
The food, drinks, and people were just awesome - we really enjoyed it and
highly recommend it. The prices were quite reasonable as well.
Make sure you enjoy the excellent snorkelling off of one of the two docks on
the property, and take the kayaks to the Cayes for a half day as well. We
didn't do any diving but heard excellent reviews from many people that had.
There are a few things to check out in Utila so it's worth it to go in for a day
and rent a bicycle to tour around.
We read of some crime issues prior to our departure but had no issues
whatsoever, and felt safe the entire time. The house is accessible by boat
only, and has a night security guard as well as guard dogs that were friendly
during the day but alerted you to anyone else's presence at night. We did
not find them annoying at all.
Overall I would not hesitate to recommend the Pineapple House, it was a
very relaxing and memorable vacation. The owner, Laurence, is a very
friendly and charming man and obviously cares a great deal about the
environment and his homes. If you go, you will not regret it. -

When we arrived into Utila by air, we were greeted by David Steffan, who was our contact before we arrived on Utila. David was very professional and he made sure we had everything we needed and arranged our water taxi to the house via Peters' boat. Once we got to the Pineapple house, the house was fully stocked and the house was beautiful. We had everything we needed, just like at home. The beds were comfy and the Air conditioning worked great. On treasure beach, where The Pineapple house is located, there is a community pier where you the snorkeling is fantastic! All sorts of hard & soft coral, plus an ambundance of sea life right in front of your eyes! Then, if you wanted fresh seafood, all we needed to do was call Peter (who lives across the channel on the Cayes, and he can bring you what ever you want for dinner (snapper, lobsters, etc). What more do you want for a great place to visit at very decent rates. When we come back to Utila, we would definitely stay at the Pineapple house again. Highly recommend this house to anyone who wants to get away from it all, and enjoy some of the best diving/snorkeling in the Western Caribbean. A+++++++++

new york, new yorkwonderful time
Left on 06/05/2009 for a stay in April 2009
we has a wonderful time at the pineapple house. we weren't quite sure
what to expect when the little boat picked us up from utila town but as
soon as we pulled up at treasure beach twenty minutes later, we knew
we'd made the right decision. the home is brand new (i think we were
the first guests) and as advertised, very private. lovely home, nicely
furnished, high end towels, sheets etc.. we had the owner stock us up
with food and drinks before we arrived, so we had no need to leave,
although we walked about half a mile down the beach to utopia hotel
a couple of times for dinner (very good). the owner was at another
home a few hundred feet down the beach and was helpful when
needed but discrete, other than him, the night watchman and a few
islanders who walked past collecting fruit and crabs, we hardly saw a
soul, perfect! very romantic location, lots of privacy and a lovely
house, just what we needed. it was tough to leave and go home to n.y.
