      A great time

Left on 02/11/2013 for a stay in February 2013

If you are looking for a remote, private and relaxing vacation, this is the place. The view of the ocean is great. The private pool is remarkable. We went fishing in a nearby town and caught 7 sailfish. Alex and Stephanie took great care of us. Had a great time.

I think private would be a better word to describe the location Of our property Since we are only 2.5 miles from all the activities in the biggest town in the region. So glad you had a great time and enjoyed the privacy Usually only reserved for movie stars.

      Perfect Vacation Spot

Left on 11/19/2012 for a stay in November 2012

We stayed in this outstanding house for a week in November. It was perfect. 3 very large bedrooms - each with its own bathroom. All the immenities of home. The pool and covered porch overlooking the pool made it a very relaxing atmosphere (we spent many hours just relaxing out there). The weather is perfect up in the mountains where the house is located -- you don't get the super hot and humid weather up there (80 degrees with a little breeze). The road to the house is quite steep, but you quickly get used to it and the privacy is worth the drive up.

Everything about the trip was perfect. Uvita is a neat little town where you can immerse yourself into the culture (restaurants, local shops, and supermarkets). There are also many little adventure spots to go ziplining, etc. right down the road. The beaches are the best we have ever been to and the are a 5 minute drive from Uvita.
There are also caretakers that live in a separate house on the property - they are always there to help you, answer your questions and couldn't be nicer people.
**We will be going back in the next year or two.

      Beautiful mountain resort!

Left on 10/10/2012 for a stay in September 2012

The house is outstanding! Awesome views and privacy. The landscaping is wonderful with a hugh variety of flowers and plants. The pool is stylish and the patio was a great extentsion of the home. We spent most of the time sitting outdoors looking at the beauty of the house. Inside the kitchen was great for cooking and relaxing. It was a chefs dream. And my most favorite thing was the upstairs shower. What a view!

Del also provided things that might be needed at an extra cost. The internet, a phone, pick-up and drop-off at the airport and a very much needed 4x4 to get to the house. If you like four wheeling this is your house. He was very help in every way.

The house is very close to the beach, restaurants a medical clinic and all sorts of outdoor adventure activities. The weather was perfect everyday. Even when it rained you didn't feel the urge to run for shelter. It was warm and felt great.

We had a great time and look forward to returning to Del Congo again.

      Thanks Del!

      Tammy,
I am very happy to be part of making your vacation enjoyable and hassle-free. I realize that it can be nerve racking at times when you have to rent a car in a foreign country, or find your way on unfamiliar roads to your destination, or make the right decisions on what tours to book. I am very glad that you appreciated my efforts... from arranging airport pickup and return by our driver to arranging our rental car contract paper work weeks before, to reserving the best tours. When anyone stays at "Del Congos de Uvita " their considered a VIP because I would like to be treated the same way when I travel. I look forward to helping you and Zach when you return to Costa Rica!!!

A true jungle experience with all the comforts of home

Left on 02/12/2012 for a stay in January 2012

I have to say I really didn't know what to expect when my husband and I joined another couple in Costa Rica. I was pleasantly surprised! As seasoned travelers, we certainly didn't want to stay in a chain hotel along a main highway. This place is in the mountains and really quite a 2 and 1/2 mile journey up a mountain to get to it. The gate opens to another road that goes past the caretaker's home to our villa. The house is beautiful! Three bedrooms with views of the ocean, three full baths and a kitchen that opens up to the infinity pool overlooking the best view of the ocean. The second night a troup of Howler monkeys came within 20 feet of our bedroom. Tucans and parrots every morning. Caretaker, his wife and small children are adorable and most helpful-even sharing a local dish made in their oven or some of the many fruits grown on the property.
Close to many sights including Manuel Ortega National Park variety of great restaurants within a half hour drive.
      Great time!!

Left on 04/16/2011 for a stay in April 2011

One could not ask for a more enjoyable stay in the rainforests of Costa Rica, except for maybe a helipad. The house is beautiful and has everything one would need. The pool is great and the view spectacular. It overlooks the Whale's Tail and the beaches.
The caretaker couple are always within a stones throw and eager to help in any way they can.
Arrangements were made for us to do a zipline tour at Hacienda Baru and a horseback tour at Nauyaca Falls. Both are just a short drive and the people that run these tours are trustworthy.

Del Congos De Uvita - The Long and Winding Road

Left on 03/05/2011 for a stay in December 2010

Six adults plus our 18-month old stayed at Del Congos during the week of Christmas. To say the least it was an adventure. I’ll start with the positives: The villa is true to the pictures and very nice, with a large new kitchen. The kitchen is the central part of the villa and it’s also where the television is. There is no cable there so be certain to bring Dvds or a connection cable for a smart phone or laptop. The back porch is large and great for hanging out or eating dinner outside on the large table. The pool is pretty and the views from the back are gorgeous. The bedrooms are fine but the plumbing wasn’t great and we had some problems, perhaps because of the more remote location of the villa. The house manager, Diego, and his wife, Arecily, live next door and were extremely helpful and friendly although not particularly proficient in English.

Now for the negative, or at least the reality that no one really explained to us sufficiently, either in the description of the villa or the prior visitors’ reviews: the villa is very high up a mountain, and very difficult to reach. You reach it from the town by driving up an unpaved, steep, twisting, rocky mountain road with steep cliffs. It took about 30 minutes to get up there, and we never made the trip more than once in one day. The owner did tell us that we would need a manual car with four-wheel drive, and we were able to rent his car from him. That being said, he also told us that we would get used to the road after a day or two and would have no trouble driving up and down the road ourselves. To the contrary, although I am able to drive stick, I never successfully drove up or down the road myself (I actually got stuck once and had to rely on a passerby to drive the car up the hill for me). Instead, we had to rely on Diego to drive us up and down every time we wanted to go anywhere. In addition, because many of the activities (horse back riding, fishing, etc.) were not that close and getting to these locations was not simple, we ended up using the services of Marcos (the guy who picked us up from the airport). He charged $40 a day and would drop us off and pick us up from the activity. Once we figured out a system it was very nice, but having to rely on other people who didn’t really speak English to get to and from the villa, and having such a daunting trip up and down the mountain just to get there, was a little draining and isolating. Because we didn’t feel up to the task of that trip more than once a day and were not able to drive ourselves, we ended up canceling a few dinner reservations.

If you go into renting this villa knowing about the location, then you’ll probably be fine. The people there are very nice and there are things to do, but know that you won’t be going back and forth from the villa as frequently as you might have thought. Also, just an FYI, the town of Uvita is not near the airport in San Jose. Rather, you either have to drive 4-5 hours or take a puddle jumper flight to another airport that is 45 minutes away. We have been to a number of villas over the years and this one was the most rustic. We had a good time but I think you need to know what you’re getting and make an educated decision.

      We Shall Return

Left on 10/18/2010 for a stay in August 2010

"We recently returned from our Honeymoon and had the best time at Del Congos. The property is absolutely breathtaking and the views are amazing! We receieved outstanding service from the property care takers and enjoyed getting to know Deigo and his family during our stay.

During our stay we enjoyed exploring the area and had an amazing day deep sea fishing. After a successful day on the water, we took our fresh catch to "Exotica," a French Restaurant that was like no other. Another dining experience that we still talk about to this day, was our night at "Casa de angel." This is a resort that is about a ten minute drive from the property. We liked it so much that we went back for dinner on our last night.

We enjoyed being surrounded by such beautiful wildlife and we look forward to our next visit to Del Congos!

      Ideal Costa Rican Villa

Left on 09/14/2010 for a stay in July 2010

The grounds were expertly maintained while the house was clean and organized, comfortably housing 7 adults. The views are utterly breath-taking - the infinity pool is especially luxurious and provides the perfect vantage point for viewing the whale tail beach. We had the perfect amount of seclusion and we could easily access many stores, restaurants, and activities. We also rented the vehicle available with the villa which turned out to be the best idea - highly recommended. Del is such a valuable resource on all things Costa Rica and the caretakers who live next door to the villa are so attentive, polite, and welcoming. Thank you for our unforgettable stay! We recommend everyone to stay here!

The house and furnishings were clean and very nice. The view was spectacular. Surrounded by jungle it was beautiful and peaceful. Even though we were up high on the side of the moutain and in a somewhat secluded setting, we were still close to many activities. We went on an aTV adventure further up in the mountains, spent time in the ocean including snorkling, had an unbelievable day deep sea fishing, shopped at local markets, swam in waterfalls and ate at fantastic Costa Rican restaurants, We had one of our best vacations ever.

      Luxury Seclusion

Left on 04/04/2010 for a stay in March 2010

The home is tastefully decorated, spacious, and open to a magnificant view of the sea.

Our family of five (three adult children) and parents enjoyed hanging out on the porch by the pool playing cards, reading, and snoozing. The jungle is close enough to enjoy the sights and sounds of the monkeys, birds, etc. but the clearing is wide enough to assure plenty of sunlight.

Seclusion has its price as the house is at the top of a 4 km. long-winding road passable only by 4x4 so you do have to plan your trips up/down.

However, you are within 15-25 minutes to several beautiful beaches, three very clean and well-stocked grocery stores, and a few restaurants if you don't want to eat in.

We loved our stay and were sad to go.

We had a fabulous trip and enjoyed this area of Costa Rica (Uvita), the
Del Congo home, and it's amenities very much. This home has everything
you could possibly need, and the best view in Costa Rica. It is
meticulously clean, the pool is well maintained and so much fun, and we
all felt VERY safe. This home is higher on the mountain so you get a
nice breeze and didn't have to deal with bugs. My husband and I stayed
at Del Congo with a few friends and it worked out great. Many nights we
stayed in and had wonderful meals while overlooking the private pool,
jungle and the ocean. If the desire was to dine out, this home was just
minutes away from some of the greatest dining experiences my husband and
I have ever had. Del makes you feel very comfortable when setting up
your trip and he has care takers (who are wonderful as well) on site to
assist with anything you need during your stay. I would highly
recommend this home to anyone. It was just perfect!

      Awesome Home with Spectacular views

Left on 11/30/2009 for a stay in January 2009

My wife and I spent 3 glorious weeks at Del Congos de Uvita. The house has an oceanview from every room and all the modern conveniences as well as lots of attention to details. The Infinity edge pool is very large and also has a 30 mile oceanview along with a small waterslide. One of the things we enjoyed most was the approx 6 degree less temperature difference from that of the hot (we live in Wisconsin)beach yet easily accessible to Uvita and it's National park beaches. The privacy of 13 acres of primary jungle surrounded by the most beautiful exotic gardens allowed us to really unwind and explore the trails on the grounds including the natural spring that is the source of a 30 foot waterfall on the property. We have travelled all over the world and see the Uvita area to be a tropical paradise still untouched by big hotel chains. We highly recommend it as a luxury getaway.

      Honeymoon in Uvita

Left on 10/06/2009 for a stay in August 2009

A wonderful stay in Costa Rica...
We stayed in Del Congos de Uvita for almost two weeks in early August this year and we already can't wait to visit again. The property has everything you need plus all the extras. A pool that has lighting for night swimming, a large porch area where you can eat breakfast with a view of the pacific coast, and every kind of local plant and flower right in your backyard. We saw toucans, hummingbirds, and even a monkey swinging through the trees just a minute walk from the house. The house itself has large windows, a dishwasher, refrigerator/freezer, and washer/dryer! No need to even leave this property but it sits just above the city of Uvita where we were able to buy groceries, exchange money, and even rent a car. A national park and ocean beach are then only minutes away. Our favorite experience in the area had to be zip-lining through the jungle on one of the close by canopy tours. Our stay was made even more comfortable with the resource of the property housekeeper and gardener who is fluent in English and Spanish. Ten days seemed to fly by... We can not wait for another opportunity to visit again.
