We had a wonderful time!
The comfort and beauty of Judy's deluxe jungle house was the highlight of our stay in the Uvita area. The house, without doubt, is a work of art. The design and layout of the upper floor, where we stayed, was so pleasing in all respects. From the gently winding stairway to the colorfully painted, curved interior walls; from the charmingly-arched window openings to the cool, soothing feel of the Purple heart floor on our feet. The shower was just luxurious, featuring a waterfall shower. The water, cascading down from beautifully-placed rock ledges. The open-air kitchen and sitting area, where we spent most of our time, had a 180 degree treetop view of the nearby ocean. A great place to watch the Toucans, Mot-mots, Green Parrots and many other birds.. This house breathes relaxation. Judy was so helpful in everything; picking us up at the bus stop, giving us rides to area attractions and sharing inside-information on that best place to eat. She is our "Pura Vida" friend.

Tranquil Jungle Experience
Judy's house is set in a perfect location - it is part way up the mountain so if affords a perfect view of the jungle treetops and the birds that inhabit them (within minutes of arriving, a couple of Toucans were perched within easy view). The pacific ocean in the background provided a beautiful contrast to the jungle canopy. The view of both the jungle and the ocean stretches to the horizon in 3 out of 4 directions.
The house itself is gorgeous - polished wood floors, simple but elegant layout, custom designed furnishings, fixtures, and - the best part for me - no glass - all the windows were adorned with only screens. The sounds of the jungle and pacific filled the apartment.
There is no air conditioning but none is needed - the breezes flowed through the house and kept it very comfortable.
I spent hours just sitting on the deck watching the activity in the jungle around me.
Judy was an exceptional hostess - she showed me local places to eat and shop, and we spent one morning traveling to San Isidro for the farmers market - a beautiful drive thru the mountains.

My friends and I just spent a beautiful week at Judy's "Casa Mariposa" It was our first time in the Osa. The house was spotless and had everything we needed. We spent most of our time on the lovely verandas overlooking the Whale's Tail and the giant ocean. My boyfriend liked watching the birds from his big easy chair best. Lots of toucans. We went whale watching and saw 8 humpbacks and their babies. So much Fun! Everyone was so nice. Can't believe anyone would write a less than great review about our new "hideaway". We will be back.

I am compelled to respond to the misleading review by Coloradokind. I am a frequent guest when the owner is in town, we are friends and neighbors. Judy told me she was renting her house to a couple for a month and possibly 2 couples. As it turned out there were people coming and going and staying all the time. We share the same housekeeper with other neighbors and the housekeeper complained to me that on her day to clean Judys house people were sleeping all over the place on the floor and she was told to clean around them and not disturb them. She is a country girl and not used to seeing half dressed people with dreadlocks and she felt very nervous while she was cleaning and almost left. She said there were over 12 or so people sleeping on the floor. For one solid week during the Envision Quest which is like the Burning Man Festival these people who rented Judys place were part of the Organizers of this event and had many people staying at Judys place and they played Music and Karoke so loud I had to close my windows and turn on the air conditioner to sleep. These people were not considerate of the surrounding neighbors. I have never seen "random snarling dogs" around so maybe it was the drugs and hallucinations. We live in the rainforest jungle but swarming with insects?? We did have one robbery at the top of the main road during their stay and out of respect renters were notified as well as all neighbors.
So to future renters of this lovely home disregard this unfounded review. P.S. All the neighbors were happy to see this motley crew leave.
Cant' wait to come back!
My boyfriend and I had the luck of finding this incredible house on flipkey! The location was ideal for beach trips and waterfall excursions to close by Uvita falls and El pavon waterfall(both breathtaking, and not crowded!). By far the highlight of the trip though was the fantastic view from the upstairs balcony!! tucans joined us for sunsets almost every night. The rock waterfall shower is as amazing as it sounds. we loved our stay and it was ideal for the two of us. Definitely need a rental car. lots of great restaurants close by, one of our favorites was Roadhouse 169. Amazing fresh salads and fish tacos im still dreaming about. Bcr, atm and supermercado within 5 minutes Judy was very helpful! cant wait to come back to our dream home in uvita! Ideal location with such friendly locals and the besst view of the sunset over the pacific we have ever seen!
Honey and the DJ
The best of the best!
My fiancee is an international DJ and his bookings always include 4-5 stars hotel accommodations for 2 nights. However, we had more days to stay in Costa Rica and found this amazing house which we rented for the remaining of our stay.
This rental house is fantastic! Brilliant view of the ocean, beautiful interior design, which I appreciate since I come from an interior design background. Cleanliness of the house is immaculate!
This amazing house really made us feel like it was our home away from home. Now, we live in Thailand and still looking for a home similar to this.
I would definitely stay here again the next time we are in Costa Rica. Or probably move to Costa Rica so that we can have the house!!
Incredible eco-friendly getaway
I stayed here in December 2011 for a week and loved every minute. I'm severely sensitive to chemicals and really appreciated the lack of toxicity. No harsh cleaners were used, the furniture was made from local, organic, native hard woods and the jungle itself was so relaxing and refreshing. I highly recommend this property.
Perfect jump off spot for your southern zone vacation
This house has it all - it has that secluded jungle feel that you come to Costa Rica for - but it is just 5 minutes from the town of Uvita with restaurants and a grocery store. Better yet travel minutes in either direction on the main highway and you will have everything you could possibly want in a vacation: beautiful beaches, waterfall horseback riding, surfing, fishing...everything. Great view, tranquil space...and monkeys!
The most fantastic, life changing vacation we have ever had!
My new husband and I rented the Casa Mariposa for two weeks.
To our surprise, the place was huge! A beautiful castle hidden away in the jungle :) We felt like we were the only ones around.
Amazing views of the ocean. Tranquil sounds of the forest. And often spottings of tucans during our morning coffee on the upper deck :)
Costs Rica is such a wonderful country! The people are so friendly and go out of their way to help you. The amount of fresh fruit and vegetables was staggering... Mostly 100% organic! Definitely make sure to check out the farmers market!!! Plenty of raw selections and you get to meet all the cool x-pats from around the world who now call CR home :)
I wish we could've stayed longer!!! I really started to feel at home.
I will miss our secret castle...
Thank you so much for everything Judy!
You really rolled out the "green" carpet for us and we appreciate every lovely moment. Our relationship is much stronger after this experience with nature and reflecting on what is truely important in this world! <3
Pura Vida ;-)
Magical View, Laid-Back Living!
We were fortunate to have stayed long term at Casa Mariposa...8 glorious months. The house is comfortable and rustically inspiring at the same. Outdoor living with lovely screened in sleeping rooms. From waking to the sounds of the howler monkey troupe or the white face monkeys swinging in the trees outside our window, to the toucans and sloths that visited in the afternoons there was no shortage of close-up encounters with jungle friends. Our stay covered both the hot season and the rainy season, and both had a magic all their own. The owner is very accommodating and helpful in assuring that your stay is all you want it to be and he townsfolk of nearby Uvita are welcoming as well. There is an active ex-pat community that shows up in town a the Saturday morning farmers market in town so if you need any additional pointers that's the place to find them.

Scott and Shelly,
Thanks so much!
fantastic relaxation in an area of excitement.
Beautiful custom home set in lush tropical plantings, on a private hillside with terrific views. All ammenities were provided including kitchen condiments! Better than home, clean and comfortable screened living, at treetop level with cooling breezes.
Pride of ownership shows with the plantings and the details of the home and furniture. Restaurants, shopping, beaches, jungle sights and activities are right at hand, no four wheel drive needed!
