Casa Caribaea is nestled five minutes from central Uvita up a quiet paved road. Set on 2.5 acres and bordered by hundreds of acres of primary jungle in a verdant garden setting, it comprises only two residences. From the moment you enter the luxuriant garden estate, your holiday is suffused with tropical serenity.

Designed along the lines of a Balinese village in the hills, Casa Caribaea projects a theme of simplistic elegance. The buildings use local stones and hardwoods blending seamlessly into the environment. The gardens are generously given center stage and provide a wonderful contrast against the sweeping ocean views that include... both the Whale’s Tail and Cano Island. The spacious infinity edge pool is flanked by a large pavilion that serves as the principle entertainment area. The barbeque is conveniently situated between the pool and the bar and spectacular sunset ocean views can be seen from every angle.

Rooms are a sensuous combination of luxury and homespun charm. The latter comes in the form of antiques collected by the owners on their travels and the unique furniture created by local wood artisan Eduardo Mancini. All bathrooms and kitchens are spacious and lined with white quartz. The radial ceiling beams supporting the cathedral design are made of Nispero, a local hard wood. The hand-crafted wood windows encourage guests to take advantage of the continuous breezes that whip through the property but all rooms also have air conditioning and fans. Flower arrangements are decoratively arranged throughout the living quarters showcasing the prized jewels of the garden.

Tropical abundance as a phrase does not do justice to the profusion and variety of plants here. Heliconias, gingers, bromeliads and palms are constantly attracting birds and butterflies. Many of the species will be unrecognizable to most as the owner has been meticulously collecting rare plants for several years. The garden boasts the largest collection of heliconias within the country at over one hundred varieties and counting. There are also over 130 palm varieties on display. Several rare species endemic to Madagascar and New Caledonia are littered throughout the landscape. A series of stone walkways, wooden bridges, pergolas and streams run through the property. Many of these meander through primary rainforest giving wildlife lovers more opportunities to gaze at toucans and howler monkeys.

The staff prides itself on local knowledge and tailor-made excursions are created to help guests appreciate Southern Costa Rica. Cultural tours include visits to a small artisan vanilla farm, rainforest canopy zip-lines and excursions to Boruca, an indigenous village with celebrated craftspeople. Courses on a range of activities, including basket weaving with local materials, Spanish language classes, and Reiki energy workshops, can be organized. There are a range of more activity-oriented excursions: guided walks, waterfall canyon rappelling, ATV trail riding, sport fishing and mountain biking (with a wide tire option for beach rides). Private yoga and surf lessons can also be coordinated. The owner is an avid surfer and can suggest the best places to surf for a given experience level. Uvita is in the heart of Costa Rica's Southern zone. It is the gateway to Ballena National Park. The Jardines del Morete development is comprised of several private residences and has one of the few paved roads in the area. The local beaches of Chaman and Hermosa are less than five minutes by car. Uvita has several restaurants, two large supermarkets, three banks, an urgent care center with adjacent pharmacy, a gas station and a host of other commercial services.

  We enjoyed a 4 night stay with the Hughes. We can recommend this place to people who want to enjoy Costa Rica's nature. Jason has created a wonderful garden, full of details and very colorful. There is a path that takes you around their property, which we really enjoyed. We were amazed by the amount of Tucans we could see, the pavons, the monkeys we could hear, a paradise! Victoria was always very helpful and kind...offering fruit, and some snacks at the pool! Thanks!
  The house was big enough for us... 5 adults and a baby. We could make use of the kitchen not only in our house but also at the common area which has a breathtaking view of the pacific ocean...amazing sunsets! Doing the dishes with such a view was never so pleasant!
  People coming to this place should know it takes a couple of minutes to get to the beach, which we actually enjoyed a lot because we were away of the noise of town. So a car is almost a must...4x4 would be perfect, but you can get there with an automobile too.

Your family was one of the first to enjoy the new LED lights we recently installed in the pool and we noticed the delight on your faces relative to past guests who swam at night. We also noticed your baby was very content in the pool and will most certainly become a strong swimmer in the not too distant future. I had forgotten that you saw the wild turkeys on your trip. That was actually a rare spotting but they have been coming around more and more lately as I just saw a pair two days ago. I'm glad you enjoyed the garden. I have just imported twenty new types of palms this week from Hawaii and so our total species count is now at 230. It will be fun watching this stuff mature in one of the fastest growing environments in the world.

  Great place for our Costa Rica Christmas!

  This comfortable and stylish two-bedroom, two-bath mountainside cottage in Uvita made for a wonderful Costa Rican Christmas for our family. I highly recommend this cottage.
  
  We arrived later than expected but were still welcomed by our hosts who showed us around the cottage and the property. She had seen to all the details: There were lovely tropical flower arrangements in all the rooms including the bathrooms, the refrigerator was stocked with staples for easy cooking, a huge platter of fresh fruit adorned the counter, and comfy beds and large stone-tiled bathrooms were precisely made up for our arrival. The cottage decor is comfortably elegant.
  
  While enjoying all the amenities, we still felt like we were in the jungle. We saw white-faced monkeys that came to check us out on Christmas. One morning we were awakened by the otherworldly sound of howler monkeys - a mother babies in the trees right behind the cottage. I saw toucans every day -- on Christmas Eve there were too many toucans to count. The sunsets from the entertainment area and infinity pool were picture-perfect, overlooking the Pacific and Uvita's distinctive Whale's Tail. The grounds of the property are literally an arboretum, landscaped with rare palms and exotic tropical flowers. Perched on the side of the mountain, the property catches refreshing breezes in the evenings and we experienced no problem with insects. We used the cottage's air conditioning only occasionally.
  
  When we visited with local friends in Uvita, they told us we had made the best choice by renting from the Hughes. Along with its style, amenities and view, it also is in a convenient location. While perched on the mountainside, it is close to town and the main coastal highway. The road to the property is paved for its top curvy part, making for a quick drive to the market and restaurants in Uvita in less than 10 minutes. There is a gate at the entrance so we always felt like our belongings and car were secure.

  Wonderful place with fantastic infinity pool

  This condo was perfect for our family (couple with a 1.5 year old) and our host were a great part in making our vacation a lot of fun. The condo is clean. comfortable and beautifully decorated. The kitchen is fully furnished and we enjoyed the complimentary fresh fruits and beer Jason and Victoria prepared for us. The entertainment area has a stunning view of the ocean and and we thoroughly enjoyed lounging around the infinity pool. Our son also had a wonderful time and we would recommend this condo to anyone!!
