Kanata, Ontario, CanadaProvence at its Finest
Left on 05/07/2013 for a stay in April 2013
If you wish to observe and enjoy the beauty and rhythm of life in Provence at its best, this is the place to be. Neither too big nor too small, Vaison, with its extensive Roman ruins, huge weekly outdoor market, many fine restaurants, shops and art galleries, is a wonderful part of the world in which to spend a holiday. Our stay there was made even more memorable by being fortunate enough to have booked into "Maison Vaison", our host allen's historical yet thoroughly modern residence (well described elsewhere on this site) which is conveniently located on a quiet street within a short walking distance of the main town square. Prior to our arrival, we had been well briefed by allen about the things one needs to know when settling into a temporary home away from home and about the best places to see, things to do and places to eat in and around Vaison. After two too-short weeks in the area, we (my wife and I and another retired couple) had only begun to discover and enjoy the many beautiful vistas, mediaeval villages and historical sites in the area as well as, among other things, the fine dining and the simple pleasure of people watching from a seat at an outdoor café in the town square. Also, when we were so inclined, we could easily retreat into the comfort and privacy of the beautifully equipped and furnished Maison, complete with a full chef's kitchen, modern appliances, flat screen television and free internet access. "Unforgettable", in the most positive sense, best describes the experience. Highly recommended!!!

TorontoExcellent!
Left on 03/13/2013 for a stay in February 2013
We stayed at "Maison Vaison" for a week in Feb of 2013. We very much enjoyed having such a clean, comfortable, fully equipped house to return to at the end of a days exploring. The excellent kitchen was perfect for trying out Provencal cooking with fresh ingredients bought at the thriving local markets. It was fascinating to dine while looking out the front window at the ruins of a Roman town from 2,000 years ago. It was a real pleasure dealing with alan who went out of his way to do everything possible to make our stay enjoyable...which it most definitely was! I highly recommend Maison Vaison and hope to return again soon.

SORRENTOAn exquisite, luxurious property...
Left on 11/12/2012 for a stay in August 2012
Maison Vaison is an exquisite property in the heart of Vaison la Romaine, Provence. Sitting beside uninterrupted views of the Roman ruins it is quite central; however the street is very quiet. The house has every conceivable luxury while adhering to 'French Chic', and has everything you will possibly need for your stay - whether eating in or out. We arrived at Vaison la Romaine in the middle of a heat wave, what an absolute blessing it was to have air-conditioning! This is a real rarity in Provence/France.
Although we arrived on the eve of Tuesday's market day, there was ample parking at the church, just a few minutes' walk from the house. We strolled each evening to one of the many restaurants, and stayed a while in the square - where there is often fascinating activities and music being performed.
Using our rental car we traveled the area with ease during our stay, and visited the many villages in the surrounding district, such as Seguret, Cairanne and Sablet to name a few (though it was hard to tear ourselves away from the beautiful medieval town of Vaison la Romaine). We walked through the hill top towns discovering a new delight around each corner, and ate in little family owned eateries, with magnificent views of the valley
We had to conclude that Glube residence deserves a five star rating!

This property is very attractive, comfortable, and conveniently located within the town. The town is great base for exploring the area. The house has been thoughtfully renovated to be both comfortable and interesting. The view of the ruins just across the street is amazing.
We stay at a lot of five-star hotels and upscale vacation rentals and we feel that "Maison Vaison" was a great find for us. We highly recommend it. -

Surrey UKTruly Provence Chic
Left on 09/27/2012 for a stay in September 2012
This is truly a wonderful property, ideally situated in the centre of Vaison la Romaine, opposite the Roman Ruins, yet so peaceful, with a host of wonderful restaurants to meet all culinary needs within easy walking distance.
The photographs although accurate fail to do the property justice. As part of our enjoyment we love to cook and as such tend to take a few of our favourite utensils with us, in the past using them all, not this time, the kitchen was every cooks dream, all you needed and more.
The owner was more than helpful e-mailing a suggested itinerary which included local wine tours, cooking lesson, markets and visits to other villages.
Must does: - Vaison la Romaine market every Tuesday, this huge marke,t great for all local produce, souvenirs' and cloths.
Drive up Le Mont Ventoux part of the Tour de France rout, stunning views.
Wine tasting: - Domaine Jaume in Vinsobres fantastic rose.
Domaine Mourchon in Seguret this Domaine is English owned and the Son-in-Law does a special tour of the vineyard on Wednesdays, really interesting no matter how much or little you know about wine.
Restaurants: - Very reasonable €40 - €60 for 2 with wine La Lyrist and Balla Napoli
€100 - €110 for 2 people with wine La Fete en Provence and our favourite €110 -€180 for 2 people with wine Le Beffroi this 3 star hotel restaurant has a fabulous courtyard beautifully lit for night time dinning. All these restaurants are in Vaison la Romaine.
I would not hesitate in recommending either Vaison la Romaine or this wonderful property as the perfect venue for your next vacation.
The only problem was the house was so comfortable, and we were very idle, that we did not achieve all we had set out to do so will have to make a return trip sometime in the future.

It is with great pleasure that we recommend Maison Vaison to anyone interested tucking away into a quiet hidden gem in the region of Provence. My boyfriend I rented the villa for 6 nights and we were not disappointed. Allan was extremely helpful before we left for our trip, providing us with an information package that included all the information we would need for our stay. We used Maison Vaison as a home base for day trips to other cities such as avignon, Marseille and even Mont Ventoux. The Tuesday market completely exceeded our expectations and is not to be missed. From the incredible Roman Ruins just outside the front door to the the lively market square full of restaurants and shops we were never lacking with things to keep us occupied. We visited the historical medieval city as well, which could be a day trip in itself. The most wonderful part of Vaison-la-Romaine is that everything is in walking distance and even just sitting in the market square people-watching is both entertaining and relaxing. Maison Vaison is beautiful and looks exactly like the pictures. We used to kitchen quite a bit and enjoyed having dinner at the table over-looking the Roman Ruins watching people walk by. We recommend this villa without hesitation and hope to visit again in the near future.

Toronto, Ontario, CanadaNearly flawless

It is hard to avoid superlatives when reviewing not only this property, but the town of Vaison la Romaine, and Provence in general. Our party of three spent a week at the Glube's French getaway home and enjoyed every moment. As other reviewers have noted, everything necessary for a perfect Provence vacation was immediately at hand--in the house, in town and in the region. The house is fitted out with everything but clothing and fresh food. Everything is in good working order, including the kitchen, laundry, air conditioning, internet and cable TV.
The location is central, yet very quiet. In town, we enjoyed the cinema, swimming pool, medieval quarter, open air restaurants (and Casino grocery store) at the central plaza, Tuesday market day and the ample parking at the community parking lot--all less than a five minute walk with the exception of the medieval quarter, which is about 10 minutes away on foot. (NB: find another nearby spot for your rental car on Monday evening due the market--the street behind the house is a good option if you get there by early afternoon!)
Of special note in the medieval part of town is local artist Leon Zanella's gallery and several nice restaurants along the well maintained and narrow streets. Try to spend a few minutes loitering on the old Roman bridge on the way across the river to the other side.
We traveled the area with ease during our stay by both rental car and train (board at avignon or Orange): Valence, Marseille, Avignon and lots of smaller, interesting places. Our favorites were kayaking near Fontaine de Vaucluse with Kayak Vert on the River Sorgue (the clearest and cleanest water in a river you are ever likely to see) and a visit to the Marquis de Sade's old castle hideout in Lacoste. Take a GPS with a local/France database or a good road map and don't worry about making a wrong turn, you'll find something interesting in all directions from your base in Vaison la Romaine at the Glube's fine French home. -

I had the privilage of renting this property for a week. The photos do not do it justice. The appliances and furniture are top quality and it is beautfully decorated. On the first floor, the house has a couch/hidabed and a full bathroom. This would be good for those with limited mobility. All my dealings with allan were very professional. The information he provided completely prepared me for my visit to the Maison Vaison. His property manager is available if you have a problem. I hope to return soon.

From the moment we arrived on the doorstep of Maison Vaison we felt welcomed by the charm of the setting, the reception of the caretaker, and the warm and comfortable interior. What a special experience to have Roman ruins as neighbors. I might add they are very quiet. Allen's guide to the home and to the area made our stay not only enjoyable, but very easy. The home was complemented by the town of Vaison, and visa versa. One just popped out the door to search for fresh croissants and bread for breakfast, then again for a walk up to the Chateau, and in the evening the cinema was just a block away, though the evening light on the ruins was sometimes better entertainment. I highly recommend Maison Vaison as just the right home away from home in this warm and friendly area of France.

TorontoPerfect Provence Experience
Left on 08/22/2011 for a stay in July 2010
Our family of four stayed at this beautifully renovated Provence home in July 2010. The house is spacious, clean and very-well outfitted with all the amenities of home. Best of all, this home has a brand-new central air conditioning system that made the July heat in the South of France (+40 degrees Celsius some days) more than manageable. This property is perfectly situated directly across from Vaison-la-Romaine's main attraction - 2000-year-old Roman ruins - and a short walk from the town's central square and market area. Very convenient! Also,Vaison-la-Romaine is a perfect base for day trips to many of Provence's most interesting villages, popular wineries and bustling markets. We can't wait to go back and stay here again.
