    Additional Location Information

    The 4 Valleys

The 4 Valleys (Les 4 Vallées) in the Southern Swiss Alps is one of the largest and most popular 4 seasons destinations in Europe.
The best known resort in the 4 Valleys is Verbier, but a short hop on skis over the mountain from Verbier is the picturesque mountain village of Haut Nendaz, one of Swiss ski-ing's closest-kept secrets
The village of Haut Nendaz, 1400m in altitude, commands a fantastic view of the Swiss Alps. A modern holiday resort has grown up around the centre of this delightful old Valais village with its traditional timber houses, barns and grain stores. Cablecars run from here to Mont Fort, at 3330m the highest peak in the Four Valleys.

    Winter

In Winter, the ski domain is unique and varied, ranging in altitude from 1,359m to 3,300m and comprising 412km of pistes with 92 ski lifts with guaranteed snow from December to April.
World Cup races take place on the "Piste de l'Ours" above the neighbouring village of Veysonnaz and in April, the Glacier Patrol, a bi-annual high alpine world competition runs from Zermatt or Arolla to Verbier. In addition, Mont Fort hosts the 'XSpeedski' World Cup FIS final for the World's fastest skiers.
For freeriders, the O’Neill Xtreme by Swatch, when the world’s top freeriders demonstrate their skills at dizzy heights on slopes, rocky cliffs and in narrow gorges, is held in Verbier in March and the Nendaz Freeride, held shortly before the Xtreme is the Swiss round of the Freeride World Qualifier for entry into the Freeride World Tour.

    Summer

In the Summer, the area is ideal for walking and mountain-biking, with no less than 250km of walks and 200km of mountain-bike trails to offer its visitors. Many of the ski lifts and cable cars are still operational during the summer, allowing hikers to go for high altitude walks and mountain bikers to access the dramatic downhill trails.
Golfers are also well catered for. There are 18-hole courses in Verbier (2) and Sion and Crans-Montana has a long golfing tradition - the 18-hole Severiano Ballesteros Golf Course with its breath-taking views is situated on the high plateau of Crans.
For the active visitor, there is also the opportunity to experience paragliding or to go pony-trekking, and there are various other activities available in the village.

    An ideal location for families

Nendaz has been the proud holder of the Swiss Tourism Federation "Families Welcome" accreditation since 1997.
With its frozen lake on the Tracouet plateau above the village, Nendaz is an ideal location for children and beginners. A snow garden and specially adapted installations allow children to discover the joys of skiing in a fun way. Attractive rates for ski passes for families are available. A nursery welcomes children from 18 months upwards and allows parents the freedom to explore the beautiful mountain terrain surrounding the village.

Very pleasurable, good accomodation, trouble free drive form Gen

Left on 01/07/2013 for a stay in March 2010

Tha apartment is well appointed light and airy. Still a short drive or a longer walk to the lift but our last visit was two years ago and a new short cut was under construction so the walk to the lift may now be shorter. Skiing in Nendaz is a little limited but with easy access to Suiviez and beyond for a change. However, from memory there was only one route accross from Nendaz on ski and when we went at Easter this was impassable so it pays to have your own transport (or take the bus). This is not a resort for night life but that is not what its about. For us with younger children it was perfect with extremly pleasany individual restuaraunts at reasonable prices and not a chain in sight! Obviously you can do your own research about the resort itself but it is clearly up and coming and very friendly. As to the apartment the bedrooms are a little cramped but perfectly adequate - after all what do you want after a day on the slopes? The living area is very pleasant with a well equipped studio kitchen. A big advantage is the use of the very large basement swimming pool and sauna - very good indeed with an exceptional view from the panaoramic windows. Another advantage is the basement car park if you are driving so the car is always snow free. The external balconies are a particularly nice feature. We have been twice so far and each stay has been hassle free and very relaxing. We fully expect to return in the future.

New elevator access to the main ski-lift (telecabine) was opened at the start of the 2012/13 season, so now only a short walk of about 400m to access the slopes.
