Description from the owner

Situated in one of the oldest barrios of the pretty, historic village of Valor the apartment is a tranquil haven in Las Alpujarras. It has been renovated retaining original rustic features - stone walls and chestnut beams -but with all the comforts of modern convenience - hydro-shower and fitted kitchen.

La Casa Francesa has a large private terrace with stunning views to the Mediterranean and is located within the Sierra Nevada National Park. The area is ideal for walkers, cyclists, birdwatchers or those who simply want to relax and enjoy the views.

      The hidden Spain

Left on 07/28/2010 for a stay in July 2010

Mary and Des could not have been more helpful or hospitable and helped make this holiday one to remember.
The house is at the bottom of the village away from the hustle and bustle of traffic and looks down on fields and a small town nestling in the valley, the only noise being crickets chirping in the grass and swallows chasing insects overhead.
The guest apartment is comfortable and stylish and completely separate from the main residence apart from a shared porch. It has a large terrace with patio furniture and colourful pots of plants. The kitchen is well equipped if you want to self-cater but there are a number of good eating places and bars in the village for those who don't! The swimming pool is large and deep enough to have an enjoyable swim and is completely private.
Valor is a very picturesque village with narrow streets and little traffic. The view from the top of the village is quite spectacular.
I most enjoyed the peace and quiet and just watching the world go by.

      sublime contentment

Left on 07/23/2010 for a stay in July 2010

We (three girls in 20's) spent one night in Casa Francessa and I wish it was many more. We spent 2 weeks in the south of spain and this accomodation wasn't matched in terms of affordability and comfort anywhere. Bottle of red wine left for us, pool, patio with wifi looking over the countryside, bookshelf of great reads and dvds, cool house to retreat to from the heat, beautifuly furnished. This place is a steal and the hosts are great fun and very helpful with knowedge of the surrounding regions.

      Fabulous and highly recommended.....

Left on 05/24/2010 for a stay in April 2010

Spending only 3 days at La Casa Francesa was no where near long enough! Next time we'll be there for longer..... Relaxed atmosphere, stunning views, perfect weather and fabulous hosts meant we had an amazing break.
The accomodation provides everything you need and Mary and Des are on hand if you need them. The meal they cooked for us was out of this world and I would recommend anyone who is staying to partake in their hospitality.
Although you feel like you are in the middle of nowhere - it's so quiet, which is wonderful - Valor boasts many bars, restaurants, a couple of supermarkets and a bank at least so if you feel so inclined you can park up and stick to first class walking!
We truly couldn't have enjoyed a better experience.

We enjoyed a heartwarming, peaceful stay with Mary and her husba

Left on 05/13/2010 for a stay in September 2009

We stayed only for one night in Casa Francesa as we were on a roundtrip. The house we stayed in was great, with all kinds of natural elements and an amazing view (peaceful surroundings) . Furthermore, Mary and her husband welcomed us wonderfully and were very helpful.
Last but not least, the breakfast was really nice as well.

      unique experience!

Left on 05/13/2010 for a stay in April 2010

Staying here was the most unique and best holiday experience I have had. La Casa Francesa is a lovely property in keeping with its location it is rustic but it has all the amenities you need to be self sufficient. The pool was an added bonus and much needed to cool off after our many walks in the surrounding countryside. Mary & Des couldnt have looked after us better, their food was second to none, I dont know which we enjoyed more, the meals in their own home or the BBQ's around the pool in the early evening as the sun was setting over the amazing view!.
Valor is a beautiful village, quiet but with enough local bars and restaurants if you want to go out but without the touristy feel of more commercial areas. The local countryside is stunning and there are lots of local walks to explore to burn off some of the calories consumed.
Def going back, just sorting out flights for our next visit in June!

      Chilling out in the Alpujarras

Left on 05/09/2010 for a stay in September 2009

Tucked away in the quietest part of the prettiest village in the Alpujarras, La Casa Francesa and La Casita Galesa offer a great base to explore the surrounding area, there are some great walks in the mountains, or you can chill out with a glass of local wine whilst enjoying the fantastic scenery and the Red-Rumped Swallows and Bee-eaters circling overhead. Having stayed in both properties they offer all mod cons although most of your time will be spent on the terraces soaking up the silence and the views. A great place to unwind and dream of a permanent life in rural Spain and I'll be back in 2010 now that there is the added attraction of a pool

      A delightful 'Old Spain' experience

Left on 05/08/2010 for a stay in September 2009

La Casa Francesca, together with the hospitality of Mary and Des provides the opportunity to experience the joys and tranquility of the Alpujarran mountains in the delightful village of Valor.
It would be difficult to find such traditonal Spanish accommodation which provides 'everything you need' in that area.
I loved the experience of the quiet of the mountains, the breathtaking views, 'getting away from it all' and visiting other villages 'off the beaten track'.
I loved walking in the mountains and meeting 'local' village people gathering the wild berries and nuts to make their delicious syrups and drinks.

      stunning views, situation and people

Left on 05/07/2010 for a stay in January 2010

It is in a lovely situation in a great puebla blanca village. Loads of history and culture as well as great tapas, from a number of bars. The birds never stop singing and the skies are normally blue. It may be a bit fresh in the winter but the sun still normally shines.
There's a number of fiestas through the year, truely spanish, which adds to the appeal of this unique village. Well worth a visit for anyone even slightly interested in Spain or its heritage.
Bye the way, the apartment is gorgeous, cool in summer and cosy in the winter, full of typical Andalucian features as well as all mod-cons.
