Our "Valparaiso Experience" was excellent from start to finish. Bart met us upon arrival and even carried our luggage to the apartment. We tried two of the restaurants he suggested. Both were topnotch and within easy walking distance from the apartment. (Espiritu Sancto, & Oda Pacifico). Apartment was spotless, views from the deck breathtaking. We have no hesitation in recommending these apartments to anyone visiting Valparaiso.

My husband, daughter and I just spent a week in apartment 4 in Valparaiso. The apartment is beautifully appointed, clean, bright and very quiet, though just a short walk downhill to bustling Valpo. The kitchen was great to prepare our daily morning breakfast in and several other meals. Bart was always available for questions and suggestions. There are restaurants close by and the view of Valparaiso is wonderful to enjoy in itself. I am not including photos as the apartments are true to those on the website. We recommend the apartments and location heartily. Thanks Bart!

We were extremely fortunate to be upgraded to an Eco Deluxe apartment ~ from the moment we saw the apartment until the day of departure we were thrilled to be staying in such a lovely place.
Visiting Valpo is an experience in itself, each day we would choose a different neighbourhood to explore ~ very easy from our accommodation.

we had a lovely time at the ecco apartments. bart is extremely simpatico.
Location
the location is great: in bella vista with a wondrous view of valparaiso. the balconies in the living room and master bedroom look out ont the harbor. really special. not for those with difficulty with steep steps - the only access is by foot up or down about 50 steps. as others have said, valparaiso is gritty. we found it charming, gritty, dirty and if bart hadn't assured us the neighborhood was safe, dodgy. but we walked around at all hours of night with no problems at all. great galleries and shops and restuarants in the area without the touristy ness of some of the other parts of valparaiso. went to a gallery - walk down the steps, turn left and on the right - eclectic gallery with cat in the name - great! corner store and liquor store (eggs!) had staples. we left our car on the street with no problems.

large master bedroom with view, smaller twin bedroom with no view and 2 modern bathrooms with a well equipped open kitchen/living area. very comfortable bedding. photos on line are very accurate. beautiful contemporary art on the walls. washer and dryer and clothes line if needed! wifi great.
the apartment is in a complex of 4 with other apartments that are equally beautiful.

Our trip to Valparaiso was my favorite part of visiting Chile. This rental allowed for our family to cook meals and had all of the amenities we needed. The only thing you may want to bring is your own laundry detergent and soap. Bart and Marcela provide assistance with checkin and check out and were a great resource for information on local places. Bart directed us to the rental with very detailed instructions (we still got a little lost -but take responsibility for that as it was difficult to spot street signs in some areas). The description of the rental is perfect and the views from the balconies are amazing! We would stay here again for sure!

These apartments are truly part of the experience of visiting Valparaiso. Not necessarily easy ( because of the steps) but then that is part of the City. Bart does a great job of making visitors feel welcome and the apartments are great. Will highly recommend to anyone visiting Valparaiso and especially if they need a bit of exercise. Our experience of Chile was largely shaped by our stay here and we enjoyed Chile a lot

We stayed for three nights. Bart and his property manager Ignacio were great to work with. Bart arranged a car service from the airport, which was nice after a long flight. Bella Vista is a very charming place and great to walk around...it's like a living, urban art museum. We found great places to eat nearby, including a great restaurant - Espiritu Santo - that we noticed later was featured in the LaN airlines inflight magazine. The apartment had two awesome balconies that were great for just hanging out on, looking at the sea and drinking wine. The apartment was clean and quiet. We very much enjoyed our Valpo experience and look forward to returning for another visit.

Stayed at this apartment for 2 nights. It was clean and well maintained, and directions were very good. Greeted upon arrival and provided with basic information. Would have liked to have received more information about local amenities, such as supermarket and restaurants. Owner was very explicit around directions and payment, however at the rates charged, insisting on cash is not convenient, especially for persons staying for long periods. The location was nice, and in a neighbourhood that seemed safe. No decent restaurants close by.

This family stayed at Pablo Neruda Aprtment for 2 nights (our minimum stay) and only 1 day, arriving in the afternoon and departing at 5:00AM, where we organized transport service to Santiago airport for them. A very short stay, hardly enough to get an idea what the city of Valparaiso and particularly Cerro Bellavista has to offer. Aware of their tight planning they had a great time and were very appreciative for the service provided.
Regarding information, all our guests are received with all honours & bottle of welcome wine, and plenty information, a big city map and a complete - self made - guidebook with plenty of tips and recommendations in and around town. There are great restaurants around the corner of Valparaiso Experience on Bellavista hill, like - national award winning - Espiritu Santo, Oda Pacifico, Amaya, La Caperucita y El Lobo, all included in our guidebook.
About payment options for direct reservations: a credit card payment system is now available for the convenience of our guests, our rates for fully furnished apartments are very competitive; a world apart from a standard hotel room!

The place was very well maintain, clean and the pictures do not do it justice. Great place and I highly recommend it.
Bart the owner is top notch. He made out stay absolutely wonderful. He even sorted out some emergency dental work that my girl friend had and went beyond the call of duty and translated everything for us with the dentist.

My family had an absolutely wonderful rental experience! The apartment is beautifully designed, bright, clean, comfortable, and the view from the deck is without compare. I could have spent my entire stay on the deck enjoying the blue sky ocean views and the bright colors of Valparaiso! The home has all the little essentials (tea and coffee, washing machine, etc), the beds are super comfortable, the neighborhood is artistic and fun, and Bart is a welcoming and helpful host. He spent time talking with us, shared recommendations on sights of interest and local restaurants, and he even helped us move our things in. Among all the places I stayed in Chile, this was my absolute favorite spot, and I hope to return soon!

My girlfriend and I stayed in the Bella Vista cottage over the holidays and had an amazing time. It was the perfect end to our South american adventure. It's located on the Bella Vista hill, up above the town of Valparaiso, with endless views. We walked all over town, as it was easily accessed from the apartment. Bart and Ignacio were gracious and very helpful hosts. The weather was perfect, allowing us to spend a lot of time on our private deck under the shade of the peach tree. We loved it so much that we extended our stay, cancelling our plans to spend one night in Santiago. I highly recommend the Valparaiso Experience!

My wife and I recently had a child and we promised ourselves we wouldn't allow having a child damper our traveling lifestyle. Valparaiso, Chile was our first trip we took with him and we stayed for two months (he was 8 months old when we first arrived). We chose the Valparaiso Experience with Bart mainly because he was very helpful in getting us set up and very clear in his communications. Before meeting Bart we were already very comfortable with him and decided his rental would be the best choice for our first trip with our baby.
The trip turned out great. Bart and his wife Marcela were more than accommodating for us and we immediately felt like family. The rental units are all top notch with views you can't believe. The area around the Valparaiso Experience has a very bohemian feel as there are countless artistic pieces woven into neighborhood such as murals (tons), statues, decorated homes, staircases, etc.
The area feels very safe. Walking around at night was never a problem. We parked our rental car outside on the street and had no issues whatsoever.
For anyone considering spending anytime in this area of Chile, I would fully recommend attempting to stay a few nights (one is not enough) at the Valparaiso Experience.Response from Valparaiso Experience Bart Koning - 12/14/2012

Our family stayed in one of the Eco apartments for 5 days in early October. It was the stary of a 6-week holiday in South america and we could not have wished for a more welcoming and friendly host in Bart and his young family. The Eco apartment was in a great location (close to some small shops and a cerveceria) and the views from our balcony were fantastic. There are also some very nice restaurants nearby on Cerro Bellavista and it was very relaxing in the afternoon having a glass of wine and listening to the church bells from downtown ring as the sound carried up the hill.

This was our second stay with Bart - the first was in the penthouse, this one in a new Ecco duplex. Fantastic location, with sweeping views to the sea. Wonderful space - two terraces, bedrooms, bathrooms, a fully equipped kitchen, a washing machine. Bart is a cordial host, immensely knowledgeable and generous with his knowledge.
We needed to reschedule our airline tickets due to Hurricane Sandy at home, and Bart spent more than an hour on his cell phone with the local airline, then came with us downtown to their office to rearrange our flight. Bart was a great facilitator for us. He made dinner reservations, winery tour arrangements, supplied language translations and helped with our luggage. The duplex became our base of operations for exploring Chile's beautiful coastline and Valparaiso. We had sunny, dry weather and looked forward to our daily breakfasts on the balcony and views of the blue water. The physical demands of ascending and descending the hills of this city help to balance the calorie intake at dinner - fish and seafood restaurants are plentiful. Our six days in Valparaiso will be long remembered.

We came over one night looking for an apartment for 2 months and we moved in the next day. For our long stay we took care of the cleaning and washing ourselves. For two couples and some friends staying over from time to time it was the perfect layout, two double beds and four single ones.
The apartment has a wonderful view over the bay and the city from both terraces and all social areas. The kitchen is great for those who see cooking as a social activity and spend a lot of time doing it.
You do actually get used to the very steep hill up from Plaza Victoria after a while but if you have heavy stuff to carry, take a cab up Rudolfo and get dropped off above the stairs and walk down instead of up. There is however no way of avoiding the stairs.
The area is safe and close to buses, colectivos, shopping, nightlife and resturants. It can be nice to get away from Cerro Concepción and alegre.

We (3) spent four nights in the Valparaiso Experience apartment recently and had a wonderful and memorable time because of this amazing apartment with its sweeping views of Valparaiso. Eating meals out on the decks accessed from the living room or the master suite was truly amazing, The clean and modern design of the apartment with all of the necessary cooking, drinking, and eating items included, made this a seemless and carefree "home like" setting. When we arrived, Ignacio met us with a bottle of wine and answers to all of our many questions. The whole experience of setting up the reservation, directions on how to best get to Cerro Bella Vista and any detail or question was handled quickly, efficiently and with Chilean manner of welcoming the visitor! You will love the Valparaiso Experience and especially the wonderful unique city itself. We sure did!

El lugar es hermoso, con una preciosa vista de Valparaiso y de la costa de la Quinta Región. Estuvimos en un Ecco Duplex, departamento muy acogedor, cómodo y perfectamente equipado, muy amplio, con 2 terrazas excelentes que permiten disfrutar de una vista privilegiada al mar, además tiene hermoso diseño moderno, lo recomiendo en un 100%.
La atención de sus dueños es excelente, personalizada y siempre dispuestos a que la estadía sea una experiencia encantadora para los visitantes.

Sans doute une des plus belle maison de Valparaiso. Sur le cerro Bellavista cet appartement domine la baie entiere. Pour y accéder vous prendrez les escaliers colorés du musée à ciel ouvert, et serez emerveillés par les façades peintes par les artistes des beaux arts. La vue y est imprenable de jour comme de nuit, et l'espace et le confort ne manque pas. Pour les amoureux de l'authentique, c'est l'endroit idéal, le quartier typique ne manque pas de charme, et les propriétaires se feront un plaisir de vous renseigner sur les meilleurs endroits à visiter ( musée, cerro, resto, bars et environs). C'est grace à Tripadvisor que j'ai connu cette adresse et vraiment ça vaut le détour. Nous y avons séjournés 10 jours dans cet appartement fabuleux et serions restés d'avantage, c'est un home, sweet home, à proximité de toutes les visites et facile à garer si vous louer une voiture. Merci à Bart et Marcella les propriétaires qui ont su nous accueillir avec gentillesse et efficacité. Ils vous conseillerons sur tout ce qu'il y a à voir ou faire, et vous ne perdrez pas de temps à choisir les meilleurs endroits à visiter, . Our family booked an apartment at Valparaiso Experience for one week and ended up staying for almost three months. We loved the city of Valparaiso and felt at home in the Pablo Neruda apartment. It is quiet, close to everything, and has fantastic views. This was a great home base to explore other parts of Chile.

As a measure of my satisfaction, I can best say that I have stayed here for months at a time over a period of three separate years, always in the summer(Dec-March). Valparaiso is a fascinating city which I have come to love. I wouldn't stay anywhere else than at Valparaisoexperience - and I've seen quite a few other vacation rentals in the city. I can't rate this place high enough. The views, the ambiance, the hosts, the friendliness - all rate at the top of my scale. One caveat: One must be able to negotiate the public access stairway of more than 50 steps. Not for the severely handicapped. Otoh I'm over 80 and do it without problems.

Als letzte Station einer dreiwöchigen Chilereise hatten wir, ein Ehepaar Mitte 50 mit 21jähriger Tochter, in Valparaíso einen wundervollen viertägigen aufenthalt. Nachdem schon die Buchung des appartements im Ecco duplex per Internet umkompliziert und nach unseren Wünschen lief, wurden wir vom Hausbesitzer Bart Koning, der neben spanisch und englisch perfekt deutsch spricht, freundlich empfangen und gut beraten. Der ausblick über die Dächer der Stadt, den Hafen und die Bahia de Valparaíso ist traumhaft, und zwar von beiden Etagen, die mit großen Fenstern u. großzügigen Balkonen versehen sind. (Man könnte alleine dort stundenlang sitzen und Details das Mosaik aus armen und reichen Blechdächern, Balkonen, Kirchen Fassaden des sowie des direkt angrenzenden Museo a Cielo abierto betrachten.) Das Haus ist von außen selbst als Kunstwerk gestaltet, die hellen hohen Räume mit modernen Gemälden zeitgenössischer chilenischer ausgestattet, die uns angenehm angeregt haben. Von hier aus haben wir die Stadt erkundet und uns von ihr begeistern lassen. Bart war jederzeit ansprechbar, wenn wir Fragen hatten und ist ein origineller sympathischer Typ. Die Küche der von ihm empfohlenen Restaurants ganz in der Nähe, Santo Spirito und amayana (peruanisch, war ausgezeichnet. Wenn wir wieder mal nach "Valpo" kommen sollten, wäre V. E. die erste adresse!(Wir haben übrigens die Möglichkeit genutzt, als Mitbringsel ein phantastisches Bild von der Wand weg zu kaufen.Das erinnert uns jetzt täglich an Valparaiso Experience.)

We travelled to Chile to live for the year and fortunately found Valparaiso Experience and a beautiful apartment/house to call home. Many folks rent for the weekend, others for several months. We stayed in the three bedroom Neruda apartment and loved it. We also had family stay in the Queen Mary duplex and it was great too. The apartments all have great woodwork, large windows and artwork. Eating out in Chile can be pricey -especially long term it doesn't make sense. That's why its so nice to have a full kitchen. The apartments are always clean, all with a view of the ocean and in a great location in Valparaíso - a short walk to the bakery for fresh bread or up the hill to Pablo Neruda's Sebastiana home that is now a museum. There were things that came up over the year naturally, but they were always addressed promptly. The owners, Bart and Marcela, are great folks, always helpful and live on the premises. Our neighbors were friendly and the streets and stairs are filled with public art everywhere you go.

I brought 8 students with me to Valparaiso and rented two of the spaces that Bart and Marcela offer - the Queen Mary Duplex and the Bella Vista Cottage. We spent most of our time in the Queen Mary Duplex and loved it. The kitchen was just what we needed with a group of teenagers. Upon arrival we were greeted by both Bart and Marcela who were happy to answer all of our questions. They got us set up and had many tips for us.
We were able to walk everywhere and take the micro bus when we were going farther.

A lovely patio, simple clean decor, and those views. Visiting our son who was studying in Valparaiso, we loved the location in the heart one of the hill neighborhoods. Valparaiso is a visual feast on steep hills and the views are worth the steep drive and many steps of walking, Not for those who can't handle stairs.

The problem with writing a review of ValparaisoExpereince is that it's hard to find anything negative to comment on.
I stayed in the “Queen Mary” apartment for more than a month in 2010. During this period I examined the other two apartments as well. The web site is accurate in all details. The views from the terraces are even more spectacular than displayed. This is a new building designed and constructed by the owner and landlord, Mr. Bart Koning. I was present during the recent earthquake, 7.0 magnitude here. The building sustained no damage whatsoever and was safe and stable in all aspects.
Rooms are spacious, designed with simple taste, and more than adequately furnished. All needed equipment for an extended stay was supplied. I would rate ValparaisoExperience at the top of its class in South America.
The truly unusual aspect of the rental was the landlord. He was the most helpful, caring and capable owner/agent I have ever run across in my more than 60 years of foreign and domestic travel. He was always reachable by cell phone and more than ready to help, advise, or fix any problems. He arranged transportation, gave advice, and answered all our questions relative to the city and Chilean culture in general. He speaks fluent Spanish, English, German, French, Italian, and Dutch, the last being his mother tongue. He lives nearby and keeps a sharp watch on his property. I rate him above first class.
So what's negative? Nothing in the apartments. Outside one finds all the pluses and minuses of a second world South American city. These are beyond the scope of this review.
One major caveat: Any occupant of these apartments must be able to negotiate the 50+ steps of the public stairway on which this building is located. They are not particularly difficult. I am over 80 and in good health, so I had no problems. Neither did any of my friends who stayed with me for varying periods. We had a group of 3 couples stay in one of Bart's apartments. We couldn't of asked for a better apartment, host, and atmosphere. The apartment was really cozy, great veiws and equipt with all the amenities we needed and then some. He also provided 2 cell phones we could use at our leisure to keep in touch btw. couples, bart and any local numbers, which was a blessing. He really gave us a great lay of the land, showed us around the neighborhood, gave recommendations on restaurants, bars, etc. It was hard for us to leave and if not for an upcoming reserved party coming, we would of definitely stayed there all week. We had a great time and would definitely recommend to anyone not to pass up renting from Bart. He's a great guy!

As a hospitality and travel professional, I checked the Valparaiso area thoroughly for the perfect place to stay with my sister and her fiancé for a few relaxing days.
For three lovely days, we enjoyed the gentle breezes above the Pacific while dining in our private garden. The farmer and fish markets are within walking distance. We unanimously knighted Bart, the property owner and host, our guest of honor for his graciousness and attention to detail.
The property layout and restoration of this house bears the fruits of the passion, sweat and tears needed to transform an historical structure to this level of quality. Original wood tones and breath-taking vistas blend seemlessly with modern and understated comforts a discerning traveler expects.

We (6 -8) persons stayed for 1 week in the Queen Mary Duplex appartement on Cerro Bellavista in Valparaiso. The appartement has two very nice terraces with splendid views over Valparaiso. Shops, little ones and supermarkets are nearby, at least for people that don't have problems with walking up the hill and a 50 meter stair. The kitchen is well equiped so you can prepare your own meals. The bed- and bathrooms are comfortable, the living is light and gave us a pleasant feeling. The owner, Bart Koning, helps you if you want with arranging activities or f.e. ordering taxis.
We had a great time in Valparaiso and for a great part that was because of the appartment and his facilities. A next stay in Valparaiso will certainly be in the Queen Mary Duplex. -

We spend 6 weeks in the Duplex and the Pablo Neruda apartment. We really had a great time there, enjoying the wonderful city with it small stairs and colourful houses, our cerro Bellavista, which is the most charming of all cerros, and the perfect apartment, with an amazing view over the Pacific. Bellavista is a cosy neighbourhood, with little shops were you can buy almost everything and with it open and warm inhabitants. It doesn’t take long before the people accept you as one of them, telling you all the cerro-small talk and up-dates. Our two children had a great time with the children from the hill, playing pilla pilla and escondida.
And then the apartment: the duplex is really great, with its three balconies and the beautiful kitchen made from the old original floor from laurel wood. It has all the luxury and style of a loft, is spacious and light. Pablo Neruda is a bit smaller and darker, but as well a beautiful place, with a perfect view on the Pacific from the bedroom. Bart, the owner, took us to places to experience all the best that Chili offers: good seafood and tasty wines. Our favourite: the restaurant on the beach of Quintay.

We stayed in the Queen Mary suite and it looked exactly like it does in the pictures. The view of the harbour is great as the suite is the top 2 levels and is half way up a steep hill. The only reason I give it 4 stars instead of 5 because there is a long set of steps to access the appartment. Bart lined a chef named Manuel. Manuel
made some cebiche of local fish for an appetiser that was incredible. We also had barbecued fish that was great and topped off with lemon pie and some butterscotch pudding. Manuel also broght in a local musician by the name Francisco and he sang some of the local chilien ballads and whatever requests we had, even some Guns and Roses. Francisco is extremely talented and should have been on a stage in front of thousands instead of the 8 of us. Staying at the Queen Mary Duplex really made our visit to Valpariso an amaizing experince, from climbing the hill and taking the stairs, to enjoying a great chilean wine or "pisco sour" while seating by the spectacular views from the balcony.

My husband and I stayed at the Bella Vista Cottage over New Year's for 5 days. The service we received was phenomenal from Bart, who recommended places to go and places to eat in order to experience the "real" Valparaiso. The location was perfect, a short walk to the centre (downhill) and a cheap cab ride back up (less than $2.50 US) although we did walk back up a number of times to get the full effect of Valparaiso. The cottage was beautiful. We stayed with another couple and it was perfect for four adults. During the New Year's Eve fireworks festival, we didn't even leave the cottage as the view was so beautiful from the garden area (full moon included).
It is great to have our own place to unwind, cook some meals and relax in between daily traveling adventures (the garden area was well used while we were there). A fully equipped kitchen, bbq, and other amenities (washing machine) were also much appreciated. The only one small minor thing is that the kitchen was not spic and span when we arrived (overall it was clean, but the nooks and crannies could have used a spruce up). Overall, the cottage was clean.

My wife and I stayed at Valparaiso Experience with our two children aged 5 and 8. We are from Seattle, taking a long trip around the world, and we could not have asked for a better first stop. The apartment is located in a wonderful, bohemian part of town with beautiful cafes, mural work, restaurants, and parks within a short walk. The view is epic, and Bart has looked after many details that made us feel at home, such as the fully functional kitchen. We especially enjoyed our evening barbecues. Bart is a spectacular host; we spent long days and late evenings sipping wine chatting about all matters of things including geo-politics, music, and the meaning of life. Bart gave us so many great highly personalized recommendations of where to go, what to see, and what to do. Manuel also was a real pleasure to hang out with. We are sad to leave this rare and beautiful city.

First the good: a warm welcome from our host - and a bottle of wine and ground coffee & complementary map were lovely touches.
Now the bad:
The bathroom really needs a make-over - when I tried to clean the vanity - pieces of wood came off in my hands - basin badly installed - and no vanity mirror - mirror is weirdly placed over the toilet!
Actual hole to the outside near the front door - meant we were twice visited by wandering slugs - who left slime on the floor - and once on clothing left on the sofa!
Parking was always a problem - the streets are so narrow - and the steps are more than 20+ - more like 100+!!! Rubbish left on the steps leading to the front door was not very inviting.
The oven was filthy - and so we never attempted to use it.
Also Wi-fi intermittent and NEVER worked in the evenings.
The additon of a TV might be nice as an improvement - also furniture in the courtyard would make this space more usable.

The days you visited Valparaíso I was traveling and my host was at charge. I am very disappointed to hear that the Cottage was not as clean and neat as always, and as the owner I sincerely apologize for this.
The garden furniture and barbeque in the garden are available, it must have slipped throught the host's mind to install everthing, as the furniture is stowed away to keep things in good state.
As for Valparaíso, the city is built on hillsides with narrow and steep streets, which has charm but also inconveniences; the access to the house uphill might be difficult, but is part of the landscape as most of the city is built on the hills. The location of the Valparaíso Experience building is very strategic close to the city center and yet with extrodinary views over the Pacific ocean and coastline.
I would like to invite you to stay again at Valparaíso Experience, this time on my expenses; It would be my honour to show you the ins and outs of this wonderful place.

The Host Bart - is a fabulous man and great host!
Tho we had never met him before we felt as tho we were staying at a friends apartment! Bart was so helpful to us in navigating thru our "Valparaiso Experience"! Bart's assistant Rodrigo is also very great!
We loved it! Stayed in the Pablo Neruda Apartment but also had the pleasure of having acquaintances in the duplex upstairs and were able to enjoy that too!!!!
Next time we are staying in the duplex for the balconies alone! Oh the view!
The apartment was just as described and everything we could have wanted for a visit to Valparaiso - waking up to a beautiful view of the harbour, sparkle of the ocean - without the hotel.
We even had an amazing dinner cooked for us in the apartment to celebrate my birthday.
Bart's friends Manuel and George are Chef's and concocted a delicious Chilean dinner for us.
There is an extensive menu to choose from - the decision was difficult!! Oh but so good!Thank you again boys!
The location was perfect! On the hill "Bellavista"
We walked everywhere - but tried not to walk up hills too much!
Catch a YELLOW roofed cab - they are the only ones who will drive you up the hill and it is cheap - totally worth it if you know Valparaiso and the hills and are carrying groceries!
Such a friendly community - each hill has their own and for a week we felt as tho we were a member.
Walking around on the hill - little corner store with a very nice man who has cheap, cold bottled water and Tylenol - the liquor/empanada store that won't let you in but are very helpful and friendly. Further down the hill there is a restaurant and some shops the closer you get to "town"
Head down Ferrari st and you are in Victoria Square which is also cool and worth checking out.
Such a great location - leave your apartment - go up the stairs to Ste Margarita and the "hill" - down the stairs to Ferrari street to downtown Valparaiso. I need more space to write how fantastic it was!

It was like getting to a friend's house where everything was ready and waiting for us, but with the total freedom to move around, to rest and visit this great city at our own pace. The view was magnificent and the feeling of being there, close to the center of the city while at the same time in the middle of those hills and their people made those two days totally unforgettable.

The Valparaiso Cottage was a fantastic place to live, work, and play. Great
location, breathtaking views - nothing beats sitting on the porch, watching the
sun set over the city or just watching the lights of the city and ships at sea at
night. The neighbors are great, everything you need is available, and the
house literally can become a second home if you stay long enough. Highly
recommended. -

Magdalena and I found this apartment to be the first reason why our stay at Valparaiso was such a great experience.
The apartment is beautiful, our bedroom had a view of the ocean (magnificent), the kitchen all the amenities that one would need to make a fine meal. The living room had ample space and was lightly furnished (just right)
The price was just right, some might find it high (definitely would be higher staying anywhere else that had the same vibe), but you definitely can negotiate to something that would suit you both. Bart is cool like that.
The apartment is located in the hills, which was perfect b/c of the view. The homes were all old but had character. We got up and took 2-3 hr walks around the neighborhood, we started in one spot, ended up on the other side of town and headed back again. All the while the graffiti (not your regular defacing of walls stuff, but rather artsy and colorful) was just begging to be photographed (done).
Bart was very helpful in pointing out places to go and check out, restaurants to go eat at. He was always on hand to answer and just to see how we were or were not enjoying our stay. To be quite honest, I am not such a great fan of Chilean food. We rather preferred going to the market, buying food, going back home and cooking up a storm. Hence the kitchen always came in handy. The shopping was cheaper than the restaurants in end.
The best spot Bart recommended was this funky cafe (cannot remember the name) that stayed open until about 5am (nice one!) Art on the walls and a friendly atmosphere.
We definitely plan on staying there again when going back to Valparaiso.
Bart has truly built a cool, chill out nest right in the hills of Valparaiso and I definitely recommend anyone passing through to stay here.

Actually, since your stay in Pablo Neruda Apartment, I put a wooden table with benches in the living to enjoy even more your homemade meals. All handcrafted of recycled oak and in the clean and yet authentic style.
That funky café is called "Pajarito" (birdy), very close to Plaza Victoria.
I look forward seeing you again in Valparaíso!

Lo mas recomendable es que vayas con tu pareja a Valparaiso Experience, la hospitalidad, el dise?o, la ubicaci?n, la arquitectura, un conjunto de cosas para que goces y disfrutes le da manera mas romantica con tu pareja, y la posibilidad de conocer y disfrutar Valparaiso en todo su esplendor, la mejorparte de mis vacaciones de principio de a?o, y por supuesto estoy seguro que volvere, ojala sea pronto.

Bart was so helpful and flexible! He was great to work with, helped us find our way around, and gave us great suggestions of places to see and things to do. The house is beautiful and in a great location. We had a great view of the ocean yet we had easy access to a main square, transportation, and restaurants. It was much better then staying in a touristy hotel--we were surounded by locals and had a great experience. I would definately go back!

We got to know Valparaiso in a special way through the place we stay. First of
all, the location is great, in the heart of the "cerro bellavista", then the flat has
an incredible view and of course the modernity and confort of the duplex...
That made our week-end pleasant and cosy. As we were travelling with baby,
we especially appreciated the cleanliness of the flat, its equipment (even a
washing machine!) as well as the room we had. It is to mention that Bart, very
friendly guy, is willing to tell you everything you want to know about
Valparaiso and its surroundings. Highly recommended for family or couples.

We had a great time and enjoyed Valparaiso greatly during the 6 weeks we stayed at this place. The neighborhood is fantastic: steep hills and narrow little streets mixed with amazing architecture, colorful houses and friendly people - Valparaiso at its best. If you are older, the steep hills may be a little strenous, though. There are plenty of inexpensive taxis, however, to help you out.
The place is very central and you can experience Valparaiso in a typical middle class neighborhood, with friendly people, stray cats and dogs.
The house is decorated in a comfortable, modern style. The best thing about this place are definitely the views: There are two huge terraces overlooking the city and port. There is nothing like seeing Valparaiso at night, or Valparaiso at New Years' Eve, with its firework.
The owner is very friendly and willing to help you any time. He takes care of his guests and makes your stay a great experience.
We definitely recommend this place and look forward to staying at it again, when we return to Valparaiso.
