Casa Mara is at the first floor of a typical and historical house in the Varenna old town center. It is only 5 meters (16 feet) far from the lake.
Casa Mara has got two bedrooms (two double bed and a single bed), a spaceful living room, a modern bathroom (with shower, bidet and washing machine), a charateristic entrance hall, a useful italian kitchen and a poetic lake view.
Casa Mara is far only 60 metres (190 feet) from San Giorgio Square (Varenna main square) and only 50 metres (160 feet) from the beach!

Varenna is a municipality on Lake Como in the Province of Lecco in the Italian region Lombardy, located about 60 km north of Milan and about 20 km northwest of Lecco.
The municipality of Varenna contains the subdivision Fiumelatte, home to Italy’s shortest river.
Varenna is also known as “The pearl of the Como Lake“, because of its amazing lake-view, its beautiful landscapes, and the coexistence of both lake and mountain.
You can visit Vezio Castle (a big ancient and misterious castle on the top of the mount behind Varenna), Fiumelatte (the shortest european river), Villa Monastero, and much more. You can reach Bellagio, Lecco, Como, Menaggio and each other city on the lake by the use of ferry boat.

Varrena is delightful and Casa Mara a homely Italian apartment right in the centre; quiet and comfortable. The other reviews describe the apartment well. We were two couples enjoying exploring the central lake area. The ferries are fun and easy... lots of nice restaurants abound and many many interesting walks. We shall return!

We were visiting Varenna and Lake Como for the first time from the australia. We spent an amazing week at this fabulous apartment! Fabio was at the railway station to meet us as promised and was helpful with getting our luggage to the building. He helped us to go over everything we needed to know about the apartment, area attractions and answer any questions. The rental is even better than it appeared in the photos and description. As others have described the apartment was very clean, well equipped, has plenty of room, and is in a great location (in the center of Varenna).
We would highly recommend this apartment rental and hope to return back in the near future! -

I want to take a minute to say how much we enjoyed our stay at Casa Mara: we loved its charm and wish we could have stayed longer.
The apartment is located in the best central position of the town, a hair's breadth away from lake. The home was spacious and clean (thanks to the precise home owner, Mara). Owner's son came to the station in order to meet us, and he drove us to Casa Mara.
We really enjoyed staying in this beautiful village, visiting the villas around the lake and walking in the mountains above it: on Sunday, Mara's husband, Paolo, guided us in the visit of Vezio's Castle.
A kind family, an amazing lake view, an easy reservation and check-in, and a wonderful week! We want to return! -

Very comfortable and cozy in all aspects, sleeping, relaxing, cooking, bathrooms, scenery, it was all perfect, even the weather was perfect!!
Mr. Fabio was very helpful. He advised us about some incredible tours!

Casa Mara is an elegant and spacious two bedroomed apartment in the charmingly, picturesque village of Varenna. The flat is furnished and fitted out to a very high standard, with a contemporary bathroom, and a practical well-equipped galley kitchen. As a former family home, it has character and atmosphere. Small touches such as providing a hair-dryer, washing powder etc made our stay very easy and comfortable. Fabio gave us a warm and helpful welcome, meeting us at the station, helping with bags, and providing a few essentials to help on arrival e.g. milk in the fridge. Wi-fi is available, with a good signal. ( One thing to note for visits in high summer - there is no air conditioning or any ceiling fans, but the location on a narrow (and steeply stepped) alleway seems to keep temperatures down out of high summer..
The sun rises behind the mountains on this side of Lake Como, so in September, the early mornings were pleasantly cool, it was hot and sunny during the day (23-25C) and warm enough to eat outside in the evening, watching the stunning sunsets across the lake. The flat is a a few (steep) steps above the waterfront and the wash from the ferries laps the shore below the balcony. A group of attractive and friendly bars, cafes, pizzerias and restaurants are scattered on the watefront. This part of Varenna is mostly pedestrianised so it was very quiet at night and in the early morning. Ferries to Menaggio, Bellagio and Como dock a five minute walk away. No need to bring/ hire a car to have a great holiday here. -

Casa Mara is a very clean, airy, comfortable and sufficiently roomy apartment for two couples. The kitchen is furnished with enough pots, pans, and dishes to be able to stay a month. The local food shoppes have plenty of cold meats, cheeses, fresh breads and produce, so it is not necessary to locate a supermarket. The local cafe offered cappuchino and fresh croissants every morning but Sunday. Other breads were delivered every morning to the local shops from Fiumelatte, about 2 kilometers away. Having access to a wash machine is definitely an advantage, and we hung our laundry on the outdoor terrace. There are plenty of restaurants, and those we had lunch or dinner did not disappoint. The local pizza shop had very good pizza to take out. It was quite simple to access the ferry boats and we did visit several of the towns on Lake Como for sightseeing and shopping.

I love the smallish town of Varenna and this place we rented there was ideal. Very, very clean with large rooms, beautiful white, new Italian linens, new bath, new kitchen, small patio on the side which overlooked the lake and we could hear the water splashing on the shore as the ferry boats went by.
The owners are great; dealt mostly with the 20 year old son who met us at the train station and showed us the way to the apartment. His English, like his Dad's, is near perfect which was a big help also as we knew no Italian. Liked being just up the path from the waterfront as we were.
I would love to go back again, maybe next year! -

this house is something incredible! We spent a week there (august 2011). The owner is very helpful and his advices were very appreciated (we saw everything that was possible to see in Lombardy).
We were in 5 people (my husband, my children and I) and we've been very happy for having chosen this accomodation.
The house was very clean, no problem with anything. The kitchen has been useful, comfortable and full of comodities: oven, fridge, freezer, etc.
The lakeview from the balcony was something incredible. And, the house is 2 or 3 foot far from the shore...
we couldn't ask nothing better!
