Additional Location Information
Within a stones throw of Seattle, Vashon Island is like a trip through the way-back machine. Home to some 10,000 full-time residents, Vashon is proud to be a bit odd, zoned to limit future growth, and proud of its farming and self-sufficient heritage.
It's amazing that you can be in Seattle one moment and then have access to this artistic, rural world that seems so far removed.
The separation of getting on the ferry and leaving the mainland is palpable. You can finally exhale on the ferry, and know that time really does slow down on the island!
And especially that first bit of the drive off the ferry, when you turn left and go up that big hill, the busyness of life on the mainland and in Seattle just melts away. And then presto, you're in the middle of nowhere driving past green fields and along forested roads, and a dazzling array of farm animals - from horses, to alpacas to beef cattle to miniature ponies. It's like hobbit-land and just seeing all of these different ways of life is intoxicating.
To get to this little gem by car, one can take a WA State Ferry from either Fauntleroy (West Seattle), or Point Defiance (just outside of Tacoma). There is also a passenger only ferry operating from Pier 50 in Seattle.

We stayed at this house for a long weekend to celebrate my birthday - it was perfect. Amazing view, quiet and secluded setting, yet conveniently close to town. The steam shower is amazing! We would definitely recommend to friends and would love to come back again.

My wife and I decided to take a trip to Vashon over Christmas. We have several friends that live on the island but we wanted to have our own space so we started hunting for some cool lodgings. This home is literally as good and as cool as it gets. You can tell the owner is a modern architecture enthusiast - clean lines and all the modern amenities you could ever want. At the rate they are charging, you feel like you're ripping them off. Everything is top of the line, super stylish and very clean. We've never experienced a steam shower before and I am now saving for one. If you go, turn on the steam, let it fill the shower and then turn the shower head to cold - it's the bomb.
As you can tell the house was amazing but the the piece of property and the view put it to shame. I really can't describe in words how beautiful it was. During the day you're looking over the sound on what feels like a private cliff with mountains on the horizon and the occasional vessel floating by. At night, the moon lights up the sound and you feel like the only house on the island. There is also a well maintained walkway down to a private beach - a major plus - especially in the summer.
Lee, the house manager, was great. So accommodating and friendly. He even stocked the kitchen with some amazing, fresh coffee and all the accompaniments.
It was a fantastic trip to a fantastic island. We'll be back and we'll be renting here again - if it's available.
