Elegant Condo with View of Medieval Chateau

This classy and elegant condo was just completed in February, 2010, and is now my primary residence. Local Vaison designer Denis Begouaussel of Histoire de Lieux in Vaison, and Donald Ohlen of San Francisco and the Napa Valley worked to ensure the finest ambiance and furnishings. I often travel to the US for extended periods, and then rent to apartment to adults only; I am happy to share this beautiful spot with others. The apartment is totally NON-SMOKING, both inside and on the terrace. This is a private residence and would appreciate your extra care in using it.

BONUS: The owner is a private tour guide in Provence, specializing in fo...od, wine and culture. She is happy to provide detailed, customized travel advice to her renters to help them make the most of their vacation in Provence.

The living room is furnished with an exquisite custom made Tibetan rug, and fine furniture: a 2m long sofa, 2 chairs covered in a beautiful, historic French fabric, 2 antique 18th century side tables. There is a TV with French and English stations. There is a sliding door that leads from the living room to the terrace.

The apartment’s kitchen is a traveling gourmet cook’s dream! Built with all Miele appliances, Binova Italian cabinetry, and black African granite countertops, it is a pleasure to cook here, and there is room for everyone to help or just accompany the cook. The kitchen is well supplied with all the equipment you could want: lots of great knives, cutting boards, pots and pans, a Kitchen Aid mixer, a large Cuisinart, regular blender and immersion mixer, coffee and spice grinders, lots of bowls and utensils. There are lots of basic supplies for you to use including oils, spices, many vinegars, flour, sugar, salt, pepper. There is a cooler to take along on picnics, while shopping at markets, and on wine buying expeditions.

The major appliances include a convection oven, and induction cook-top, refrigerator and freezer, microwave, a built-in espresso machine! We also have a power converter in case you need to use or charge American electrical appliances, e.g. cell phones, camera batteries. Each bathroom has a French hairdryer.

The apartment is supplied with the best hand-made French pottery and faience from Gien and the Poterie d’Aigues Vives. Vaison’s medieval castle in the Ville Medieval is visible from the kitchen, and a door leads to the terrace from the kitchen. The interior dining table seats 4-6 very comfortably, or else opens up to seat 8-10.

There are 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, each on opposite ends of the apartment, affording the maximum of privacy and comfort, perfect for two couples or a family. TVs are located in the living room and master bedroom. The master has a dressing room, plus a shower, toilet and sink! There is a long, sliding door from the bedroom to the terrace. Another custom made Tibetan rug graces this room along with a 160 cm bed and several chairs.

The second bedroom with another 160 cm bed is smaller, and can also be used as an office, since there is a collapsible desk. The larger bathroom with tub, shower and toilet is next to the bedroom. There is an open space off the entry with a table that can be used as an office space, as well.

The living room, kitchen and dining area are air-conditioned—very unusual in Provence, though the intense heat is not unusual; shutters are available throughout the apartment on the windows and sliding doors to keep out the heat.

The large, partially covered terrace has a great view of the medieval chateau and the medieval town. There is a large outdoor dining table with six chairs, a smaller table with two chairs off the master bedroom, and a great gas barbecue! Additional Location Information

Though the condo is located on a street leaving from the center of town--the Place Montfort--it is very quiet. We are only a 5 minute walk from the Place Montfort. There you will find numerous cafes, lots of food shops clothing shops, and the very famous Tuesday morning Provencal market.
There is street parking available in front of the condo, but when I am in France and not using my private space in our courtyard, it is available to guests.
You can bike or hike to the local villages and mountains. There are several shops in Vaison where you can rent bikes, and I can give you some great bike routes in the mountains. The best wine regions in Provence--Chateauneuf-du-Pape, Vacqueryas, Gigondas, Cairanne, and Beaumes de Venise--are from 10-35 minutes away. Ask, and I will provide specific recommendations for wineries. There are tons of fun and delicious places to eat in the area; I will provide you with an extensive list with you reserve your stay. I can also provide suggestions for other towns you may visit: Avignon, St Remy de Provence, Aix en Provence, Arles, Cassis.
