1 BR Tuscan Cottage in Venice Beach

You enter an arbored romantic garden to the charming Tuscan cottage serenely tucked in the midst of gardens Monet would have loved. Flowering butterfly bushes and blue hibiscus trees make the cottage completely private, and also attract hummingbirds and butterflies. Roses and all manner of romantic flowers abound, as well as fruit trees: loquats, Meyers lemon, pineapple guava, Black Mission figs, and nectarines. The plaster walls of the cottage are sun-splashed with color to keep your vacation days breezy and fun. On the pragmatic side, Michael and I wish to make your trip to Venice wonderful and have tried to think of everything that wil...l guarantee it to be so.

The cottage has all newly refinished hardwood floors except for Saltillo tiles in the kitchen and bathroom. The spacious kitchen overlooks a large enclosed private patio shaded by flowering trumpet vines and jasmine. If you like to cook, the kitchen is outfitted with a restored O'Keefe and Merritt vintage stove complete with pancake griddle. The newly renovated kitchen has butcher block counter tops with craftsman style cabinetry, and a new dishwasher. You can dine either in the formal dining room, or after BBQing, on the patio lit with teensy romantic Tivoli lights.

The master bedroom has a Queen size pillow-mattress bed, on hardwood floors. The duvet cover is embroidered with country roses and greenery. The large oak armoire will comfortably accommodate your wardrobe.

The bath is equipped with a comfortable 1930's bear claw bathtub, with shower. If you have time, we recommend a long soak in its luxuriousness!

The large flat screen television is equipped with 100s of cable stations including the premium channels, Showtime and HBO. For music, there is a tuner complete with a dock for your smart phones to play your favorite music. Wifi is provided for your computer access to the internet. Also for your convenience, there is a full-sized washer/dryer, a dishwasher to keep your holiday carefree of washing dishes, and parking supplied in a driveway.

Location, location and location. Bike from the cottage in 10 minutes to world famous Venice Beach on two new beach cruisers--one bike even has a basket and bell for treasures or groceries. Though you will be on a quiet residential street, you have easy public transit access to everywhere. Walk or bike to the nearby shopping center: Starbucks, grocery store, Costco etc.

Our location makes it so easy to get around Los Angeles, Venice, Santa Monica and Malibu. On our new beach cruisers, we are 10 minutes to famous Venice Beach by bike or car; 10 minutes to Marina Del Rey; 5 minutes to Abbot Kinney Blvd. with its fabulous shopping and restaurants. By car, Malibu is 20 minutes away; the Getty Museum about 25 minutes away; downtown 45 minutes; the center of Hollywood is 30 minutes away. Additional Location Information

Our house is on a tree-lined road adjacent to the idiosyncratic Venice Beach, a 10 minute bike ride away. Many people don't realize how busy Venice is--Venice Beach is the 2nd biggest attraction after Disneyland, and can be somewhat difficult to navigate, both in terms of LA traffic, but also in terms of parking. From the end of our street, you can hop on the bus to the beach and Boardwalk, and leave the driving to them. Abbot Kinney Blvd's shops and restaurants are coming into their own, and we are just 5 minutes by bike or bus to them as well.
While there is easy access to the beach (Michael and I are beach fanatics and if you ask for beach suggestions, we will gladly supply them), but we can get to any place we want to go including the museums, Malibu, Laguna. There is so much to see and do in Southern California, but the house supplies a wonderful patio to just hang out and rest if that's what you want to do when you're on vacation.
For us, the best part of this area, is that from our location we have all the convenience of the beach as well as Abbot Kinney Blvd., readily accessible with our bikes, but without the beach traffic. While Venice Beach Boardwalk is fascinating to stroll, it is the 2nd biggest attraction after Disneyland, and becomes jammed in the summer and during weekends. This is not only because of tourists, but because our fellow Angelinos come here as well to cool off. Meanwhile, the temperatures in Venice remain cool, especially at night.

Our neighborhood is amazingly easy to access to the rest of Los Angeles with all of its incredible places: Malibu, Hollywood, LACMA and the Getty Museum. But also the fantastic shops and restaurants of Abbot Kinney, as well as the Rose Cafe for breakfast
Right behind us, is a shopping center with an Albertson's and a Costco. Also Starbuck's and In-and-out-Burger. Or for affordable organics, a mile away down Lincoln Blvd. is Whole Foods. Gelson's is a mile away in the other direction.

Among real estate agents, Glyndon Avenue has been nicknamed, 'million dollar Glyndon Avenue', and while this nomenclature makes Michael and I laugh, we also understand it. While movie stars have lived on this street, more importantly for Michael and I, this is a neighborhood, where people walk their dogs and their children around the block every evening, and if we're working in the garden, we get to catch up on all of the neighborhood news. This is a very safe area of Venice--since we have lived here there has not been a break-in or robbery.

  I am an avid and accomplished cook, and when I travel, I pack my chef's knife and an apron. I've cooked in kitchens across the us and in Europe, and this house had one of the best kitchens ever. And it is within walking distance of four grocery stores! For a cook, this house is a treasure. For the non-cook, all I can say is: pour yourself a drink, fire up the gas BBQ and grill yourself a pork chop or something. You don't have to drive somewhere, find parking, worry about having too much to drink, deal with taxes, tips, surly waiters, disappointing food, etc. Make yourself at home! But enough about food and drink and just one final comment: I really have to mention the nice firm bed, the great water pressure in the shower, and your two cordial and helpful owners. On a scale of 1-10, I would give this place a 14.8!

  West Coast Vacation in Venice

  Had a wonderful stay at the house in Venice. Very much enjoyed the spacious accomodations, the garden, patio and hummingbirds. our son-in-law who is a professional chef prepared a wonderful meal in the large kitchen and grilled a pork loin on the patio grill.
  
  The owners, Michael and Laura were very pleasant. We look forward to coming back sometime in the future.

  Glyndon House est un endroit merveilleux, plein de charme, rempli d'antiquités et d'objets d'arts. Les propriétaires étaient très aidants tout en étant discrets, ils ont répondu rapidement et clairement à toutes mes demandes. Ils ont même poussé la gentilllesse jusqu'à venir me chercher à l'aéroport! Le jardin est magnifique, c'était génial de ceuillir des oranges le matin pour le déjeuner en plein hiver. La maison est très bien située à la fois pour les transports en commun et les commerces de quartier, et les deux vélos fournis avec le studio permettent de se rendre à la plage en 10 minutes. Cela a été une de mes meilleures expériences de location, et je recommande Glyndon House (et ses propriétaires!) sans aucune hésitation.

  I rented Michael and Laura's studio for two weeks and just loved it! It is spacious and lovingly appointed with art, books, great dishes, a wonderfully equipped kitchen, and a bed/bedding that is to die for. The location is just minutes from the Venice/Santa Monica scene, but is tucked away on a quiet street, so it feels like you're in the country. The garden is heavenly with orange and lemon trees, and many flowering plants. The cottage has a very homey, comfortable vibe -- especially love the gas stove for heat, that made it so toasty and cozy in the cool evenings. I couldn't have been happier!
