Bakersfield, CaliforniaVery nice venecian apartment
Left on 11/05/2012 for a stay in October 2012
Location is good, you're not in the middle of the tourist area and you don't get the high tide morning flood. It's very easy to get to the Rialto and St Marks Square from there, we were there on a weekend so Saturday and Sunday there was a local market just in front of the apartment building where you can find just about anything, if you're into antiques I think this is the place to go, it was nice seeing a lot of locals just shopping around. We had to ask directions to a supermarket, there's another coop (big grocery store chain I believe) close to the apartment, I would put instructions here if I could but with those streets in Venice I think you would be better off asking for directions. There's a Pharmacy just in front, a bar just downstairs but you can't hear anything from the apartment, fruit store just around the corner and there are a couple places to eat close to the apartment as well.
When you do the check in, it says that the office is close to the station and on your way to the apartment, well this is not the case. It is close to the station but if you have a couple of bags and a baby in a stroller, there's no need for everyone to go pick up the keys, don't make the same mistake we made.
Seriously, when they tell you that you have to leave all the dishes clean, they should provide you with the dish soap, that's not something you're going to be planning on buying when on vacation, specially if it's only to wash a couple of glasses. There were a couple of pots stored away that had some water in them (how? I don't know), so we cleaned every single thing we used just before using it, I think people staying there (I don't mean everyone) just rinse the dishes so they don't end up paying I believe it was 40Euros for leaving dirty dishes. Another thing, how expensive is it to put a couple of toilet paper in there? just like I said, another thing we're not interested on worrying about while on vacation.
Just like it says, remember it's on the top floor with no elevator, so after hauling the luggage through Venice, up and down the bridges and making the mistake of taking everyone to pick up the keys, you go up the stairs open the door all happy thinking that you're there... there's another flight of stairs. It was fun, it's good that you only do it once.
When we first walked into the apartment we didn't like it that it was a bit dark, but once we opened all the windows it looked much nicer and it has a great view to the other roof tops. We really liked it and would probably be staying there again if we go back.Response from The Key To Italy - 04/30/2013

Thanks Laura for the very detailed review and tips.Glad you've enjoyed the apartment and the area! You are right, there is no need for the whole group to go pickup the keys, so if you have lots of luggage you can send just a member of the group, it will be much quicker and easier. thanks! Tiziana

Toronto, CanadaPerfect for a large family with small kids
Left on 07/15/2011 for a stay in July 2011
This was the perfect apartment for our family. We were 3 adults, 3 kids ages 3, 6, 12. This place made us feel like part of the Venetian life. Observing the locals and part take of their daily ritual made this one of the best part of our Italian trip.
We arrived late and the late check-in instructions was very clear. No hassle and the apartment was very clean and comfortable. The air condition was a blessing in the summer heat and the apartment provided bath towels, complete kitchen facilities, microwave, toaster, and washing machine. The asian inspired decor was tasteful and the living room was very comfortable. The kids felt instantly at home.
The location was very convenient only 10 min. walk to Rialto and 20 min. P. San Marco. We thought that it would be far but in reality I am glad we did not stay near the popular attraction. It can be a bit overwhelming and this place was just perfect.
A couple of tips:
* There is a bar downstairs where you can buy espresso, cornetti, and bottles of water. This became our morning routine to get breakfast while the kids where still sleeping. Come early to get the best selection of cornetti. This is also the local hang out spot. At night, it may seem noisy but from the apartment, we could only hear minimal noise.
* Speaking of noise, be prepared to be awaken by 7:00 am, the local bell tower will ring! And I got woken up every morning.
* There is a fruit store just around the corner. This also became part of our morning routine. Buy just enough for the day. Fruits are fresh and so sweet. It is almost like candy.
* Across the apartment there is a pharmacy, very helpful for our family.
* Further down from the fruit store is a mom/pop supermarket. Very small but just enough for your short term needs. Hint. The apartment doesn't provide soap, toilet paper or tissues. Go here to stock up. Pasta and fresh meat is also available. Priceless for small picky eaters. There is also a chain grocery store 'Coop' near Rialto.
* On the same street there are various Trattoria which provide prepared food, very convenient when your are just too tired to cook.
* Watch out! check out was 10:00 am sharp and they mean it. At 9:30 someone was already waiting to clean the apartment. Late checkout wasn't possible due to availability.
* Don't get a traghetto pass. We made a mistake to get a 3 day pass but we were so close to everything that we did not get our money's worth.
* Check-out was simple and quick. We just dropped the key off and we went on our way.
* Last tip: the apartment is on the top floor, so be prepared to walk stairs, lots of them. This is a lot of 'fun' when carrying your suitcase or a sleepy 3 year old! And no, there is no elevatory!
In summary, we would highly recommend to anyone who want a cheaper alternative for hotel accommodations, convenience, experience what is like to live like a Venetian, and not too far from major attraction. Our family is already planning to come back and spend a full week. -
