Description from the owner
A 5-minute walk to Piazza San Marco and steps away from the luxury shopping street of Calle Larga (XXII Marzo), this bright and comfortable two-bedroom apartment is perfect for experiencing Venice like a local in the center of the city. Situated right above a charming canal, this second floor apartment's four large windows with juliet balconies overlook the canal below and the historic Fenice Opera House and provide a perfect vantage point to view passing gondolas.
The house is elegantly decorated with rich textiles, custom woodwork, antique furniture and an original hand-made Murano chandelier. Each of the two bedrooms has a single...Read more

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Venice, and the apartment was just as described. Dr. Sloane greeted us and was very kind and accommodating. The renovated bathroom is very nice. The water views were the best part, with gondolas passing throughout the day and lovely singing and music to serenade you while you relaxed. At night it was very quiet. I would definitely recommend this apartment for a stay in Venice. Mille grazie, Dr. Sloane!

Fort LauderdaleDream apartment!!!
Left on 05/12/2013 for a stay in April 2013
We stayed in Italy and traveled from Rome to Florence and finally to Venice...our stay in Venice was by far the best part of our trip! We were greeted by Emilia Sloane waiving out of the apartment window and felt like we were home instantly. The apartment was very clean and spacious with views you could only find in a postcard. The beds were very comfortable giving us the best nights sleep on our entire trip! The apartment is located directly on the canal with views of the water. It's nice to wake up in the morning with your cup of coffee and listen to the church bells and gondoliers singing as they paddle by like a scene out of a movie. The bathroom was recently renovated with all the modern amenities. The kitchen was very clean and has all the tools you need if you wanted to cook a meal at home. The apartment is only a short walk to all the main attractions in San Marco but still far enough away from the crazyness and noise at night. Small cafes and restaurants are abundant and convenient to get to. The Vaporetto stop for the apartment is only a short walk so you don't have to worry about carrrying your bags down a ton of streets and bridges. I would not bother looking for another place to stay in our future visits to Venice because what you get for the money is more than worth it. I highly recommend this renal to anyone.

This was our first visit to Venice and we discovered that the apartment is in an excellent location, being very close to San Marco and the Rialto bridge areas. We loved hearing the gondoliers singing as the boats passed under our window. However, the apartment is tucked away so it was very quiet at night and just far enough away from the bustle of the other areas mentioned. Many good restaurants nearby and lots of shopping.
The apartment has two bedrooms both with single beds. This may be an issue for honeymooners, but not a big issue for us having been married for over 40 years. However, there is a pull out couch in the living room. The apartment is well equipped and comfortable, but more attention could have been paid to the quality of the towels and bed linens. Overall, we would highly recommend this apartment for people wanting to experience Venice. -

The apartment is beautifully furnished, providing a real sense of Venetian elegance. Singing gondoliers cruise outside the windows, and you are just steps away from everything. The owner is charming. I will definitely return!

Left on 11/19/2012 for a stay in July 2012
Arriving at the vaparetto stop and being met by Emilia reminded me of being an English school boy again coming home for the holidays...and that is exactly what the apartment felt like to us all. It has a great location fronting onto the canal at the rear of the Fenice. The homely feel to the apartment with its old furniture and wooden floors gives it that special warmth. The kitchen is fully equipped and I cooked a Venitian meal with the singing gondolas passing by. Don't expect modern push button technology, this apartment has old world charm and you feel as if it belongs to an aunt who has loaned it to you for a vacation. There are two bedrooms with single beds and a sleeper sofa in the living room. The small bath and shower require a little maneuverability but then the aunt who loaned it to you is as slim as a reed and always impeccably presented! After the gondolas have done their duty for the day you can be assured of a quiet nights sleep. It's in a cul-de-sac so not many people passing by ... and now I am just grinding my way through the drudgery of everyday life earning a living, waiting to return again to this apartment where I will feel the little boy set free again for the vacation!

We enjoyed the quiet location with the occasional gondoliers' songs coming up from the canal below the windows. Lovely apartment that we looked forward to going back to each day and hope to visit again in the future.

This was an amazing appartment, great location and very clean. The service we received was on time and Dr. Sloane(owner) was very kind and helpful. She waited for us with no hesitation even though we were running late to pick up the keys. She was very nice.
The appartment is spacious and comfortable it has all the amenities one would need. We were 3 adults and we had no complaints. The music from the Gondola serenades were heard through our windows... it was like a movie. We would definately stay there again and recommend it to our friends. Spectacular location!
The only thing we were missing is a larger Espresso machine since we drink lots of espresso and a micro wave. But really absolutely no complaints! Thank you Peter and Thank you Dr. Sloane! -

My sister and I stayed in this lovely apartment for 3 days. It is in a scenic, central location, with spectacular canal views. The beds were comfy, and the kitchen very functional (we cooked our dinners there each evening). The owner was gracious and welcoming and provided us with directions to the food co-op in town where we were able to do our grocery shopping. Thanks again for making our stay in Venice so enjoyable.

A very nice apartment that does not feel like a holiday rental, it feels homely but has good quality furnishings and decoration. It was warm and everything worked well. No one walks past so it is quiet at night, Venice wakes up early with church bells, rubbish collection boats and gondoliers but that is part of staying in the heart of the city. Felt safe walking around. We prefer the independence, and budget control, that self catering offers. There is a small Co-op supermarket 10 minutes away, the Rialto market was great for fish/meat/fruit/veg and there are thousands of places to eat to suit any budget.
Water bus/ vaporetto stop 5 minutes walk away so easy to get around the city. You can easily walk to most places in terms of distance but the streets and alleyways form a mind boggling grid and just about every person you bump into is looking at a map or through a camera lens. Better in many ways not to come with a tight itinerary covering all the sights and to just wander around aimlessly. You will come across 'the sights' as you go without falling out with your partner over who led who in a circle. ..again!
Great 5 day break, thanks. -

Our stay was beyond satisfactory. It was perfect. The location was ideal and
> the apt offered everything we needed. The daily gondoliers serenading and
>the church tower bells made for an unforgettable aural experience. Add to it
> we were close to everything including a vaparetto stop - what more could we

The best about this apartment is its location. It is just a few minutes on foot (5-6 min) to beautiful San Marco plaza. When going the other way one can find adorable narrow streets with bridges, small squares, a little bakery, ice cream shop, pastry shop (4-5 min). A third direction takes you to a small square (4-5 min). From here runs a couple of narrow, but long shopping street with all kinds of shops. This apartment is a good base for discovering Venice. What is interesting that although many tourists walk by in the surrounding streets, the apartment lies in really nice and quiet corner free of noise. It is pleasant to 'come home to' after a long day in the city. I would say about the apartment and its location that it is somewhat romantic. We enjoyed the view to a little bridge and seeing some gondolas going by, some of them with local troubadours singing. A bell from a lovely old church wakes you at 7.30 am. It's all part of a nice experience. The apartment has air condition, it is quite loud, but we were out in the town for most part of the day anyway.

it's been a very comfortable holiday.Close to transports, art events, museum and almost every cultural and historical site or event. The apt is elegant, clean and well-kept, full serviced and maintain the classic venetian furniture that makes it peculiar and suggestive. Not to forget the seeing,an amazing canal in fondamenta Callas (La Fenice Theatre) with frequent passage of Gondole with singers on board...that's very very funny and evocative for whose love Venezia! And I have to thank the person that gave to me and my family a warm welcome and made us feel home.

I cannot say enough lovely things about the owners of the rental and the location. While the place was clean and the living room was very comfortable, overall it felt like we were living in some one's apartment; an apartment that they loved dearly and hence could not see that it needs some maintenance and upgrades. The shower, not only had mostly cold water but it was very awkward to use as it was a half sized bathtub with a step up and a hand held shower and a screen door that you were worried would fall apart every time you used it. In addition, there was very little water pressure in the shower. The air conditioner, while it worked, it was very noisy as it shook the wall next to the bedroom. Not sure if the problem was how it was installed or it was the air conditioner itself. The floor tiles in places were loose and it felt like they might fall out. Because this was still the owner's home, they asked for a security deposit, which is understandable, however, because the place is so personal to them yet it is tired. and needs more upkeep and upgrades than currently provided, it felt like anything could go wrong (e.g shower, tiles come off the floor) and it would be your fault, when in reality it was a long time coming and you were just the unlucky one to have it happen to you. Overall, I loved the location and the owner was lovely but the place itself was lacking.
Response from Peter - 07/03/2011
Owner
Salina,
I'm glad that you appreciated some aspects of the rental but am sorry there were others you found unsatisfactory. The shower, however, is functional, has hot water and the shower door is fully operational. And although some of the wooden floor tiles may creak, none are on the verge of falling out. As for the air conditioner, neither we nor any other guest has noticed the problem you mention, but we will look into it and correct it if necessary.
Certain allowances need to made for the fact that the building in which the apartment is located is hundreds of years old. Part of the charm of our apartment is that it is a genuine, old-world Venetian home. Obviously, one can't expect all the conveniences of a modern apartment in a new construction.
Overall, we believe the very reasonable rental price more than makes up for the apartment's minor inconveniences, especially given its many other advantages, including its elegant decor, canal-front view and central location. We think this becomes clear if you compare the price and condition of other rentals in the San Marco district to ours.

Long Island, NYA real Venetian experience!

I cannot begin to say enough about the apartment, the location and most importantly, the "host". First, the reservation process was seamless. I was traveling with my 18 year old daughter and after arriving in Venice, we were greeted by our host, Emilia, as if we were long lost family. She greeted us in the apartment, showed us the place, made us some real Italian espresso and sat with us and gave us some pointers and places to visit.
The location of the apartment is minutes from San Marco Square (St. Mark's Place) yet, after a long day amongst the crowds, it's location is super quiet. More importantly, the views overlooking the canals are brilliant. On a number of occasions we saw the gondoliers as they rowed up the canal and heard as a singer or two sang an Italian aria or the like.
The apartment has everything one needs including two bedrooms, a full bathroom, a kitchen, living room and a foyer. The only concern for folks is that each bedroom has (that we saw) only one twin bed each if that's a concern. It worked out perfectly for us.
The next to best thing about the apartment was the value. After being in Venice and seeing what's online, for the price, there is no way one can expect to stay this close to San Marco.
The best part about the apartment, however, was our host. So sweet and helpful, and speaks English perfectly.
I would recommend this place without reservation. You will not be disappointed.

We had a wonderful stay at this little gem of a place in the heart of Venice. The location was great; near St. Mark's and all of its attractions and a short walk to the accademia and Rialto bridges through charming streets and squares. The stroll to St. Mark's takes you through the most posh shopping streets in Venice. The apartment is at the end of a quiet street right on a canal, nearly adjacent to the beautiful Fenice Theatre. From the apartment windows we could watch the comings and goings from the backstage canal entrance to the opera house (which is accessible only by water) and listen to the gondoliers as they navigated their gondolas through "our” canal.
There are cafes, restaurants and shops nearby, including a small grocery where we could buy provisions. The apartment is in the San Marco district, close to a vaporetto stop as well as the stop for the airport ferry.
The apartment itself is cozy and elegantly furnished with hardwood floors, stately wooden doors to the living room, a sofa and armchairs upholstered in classic Venetian brocade, and a truly gorgeous Murano glass chandelier. Peter and his mom are very nice people, speak English and were a pleasure to deal with.
There were a few minor drawbacks. Both bedrooms have single beds and the bathroom is a little cramped -- but definitely bearable for a short stay. These drawbacks were easily outweighed by the many benefits of the apartment: the central location with beautiful canal views, upscale neighborhood, elegant atmosphere and reasonable rental fees.
This was a perfect place for exploring Venice and discovering what it's like to live like a Venetian. We highly recommend the apartment and can't wait to return.
