Morristown, NJMixed feelings about Truly Venice rental

I initially found this two bedroom apartment through the website of "La Mia Venezia." When I reserved it for a four night stay, I was instructed to submit my deposit to the property manager "Truly Venice." All of my subsequent communications were with Truly Venice. La Mia Venezia refers to the two-bedroom apartment as "San Moise CD" while Truly Venice refers to it as "Diamante." It is an interesting set-up, and it is worth it to look at all of the photos and diagrams on both websites to understand the lay-out. It consists of two one-bedroom units that connect through a common foyer that has one outer door -- a nice arrangement for two couples, as was our party. You can also rent each one-bedroom unit separately, and La Mia Venezia refers to them individually as "San Moise C" and "San Moise D", while Truly Venice calls them "Smeraldo" and "Rubino." I mention all of this, because you can find various reviews under all of these different names.
First, the negatives: It was not until we stepped off the plane in Venice and called the Truly Venice representative to find out about our water taxi that I was told there was a "problem." Because of some "miscommunication" at their end, Truly Venice had installed another couple in one of the Diamante apartment units (the one with the better view). They offered to give us a second one-bedroom apartment on another floor of the building, as well as to refund some cash. This was not at all what we wanted, as we were traveling with our friends and our intention all along was to be together in a two-bedroom apartment. Truly Venice gave us no clear explanation as to how this mix up had occurred, and despite the fact that I had reserved the Diamante two-bedroom apartment six months in advance, and paid for it in full a month in advance. They said that they were having trouble contacting the other couple about moving, and argued that they would not be able to clean the unit that day anyway, so pressured us to accept the substitution, but we insisted that they had to move the other couple out so that we could have both of the Diamante units that night. The upshot was that we waited more than 5 hours and made many phone calls, until Truly Venice was finally able to move the other couple out after 7:00 pm. We were given a pile of clean sheets and towels so that we could make up our own bed that night, but the unit was not cleaned until the next morning. For all of the anxiety and inconvenience that we suffered, plus being delayed more that 5 hours in gaining full access to our apartment, we were not offered any reimbursement by Truly Venice. As a result, I would hesitate to book with Truly Venice again.
Now for the positives: The combined two-bedroom Diamante apartment is in a great location. Each unit has a very small bedroom with a queen-sized bed; a small living room with sofa, side table, dining table and chairs; a kitchenette; and a bathroom. Everything is modern and compact. The kitchenette has a small refrigerator, two burner stovetop, plates, glasses, silverware and some cooking items. You need to bring your own soap and shampoo, but dish detergent is supplied. One unit in particular (I believe that it is the one Truly Venice calls Rubino and La Mia Venezia calls San Moise C) has a wonderful view over the intersection of several canals. The other unit (Smeraldo / San Moise D) only looks out on a small side canal. We enjoyed sitting in the Rubino unit's living room with a bottle of wine, and some cheese and crackers, toasting the tourists gliding by in their gondolas. -

Meet and great perfect. Adjoining apartments perfect for traveling couples. Kitchens well appointed. .. corner position on the canal so charming. We felt to be in native Venice, away from crowds, yet 2 minutes from main canal and attractions.

We were greeted and escorted to our apartment, everything was explained by the gorgeous Ludovico, and we were pleasantly surprised at the location and views..just like the photos. Once we got our bearings we loved the locatation so close to st. marks square. Everything you wanted was close by, and we will absolutley be staying again on our next trip hopefully not too far away. We have enjoyed every part of our stay, cute kitchenette, bathroom with fantastic shower! and a decent bed.

We had Truly Venise arrange for a taxi to pick us up at the airport and take us to our accomodation as well as take us to the airport on departure. We were met at the appropriate times by the appropriate people and never had any issues. The accomodation was great! Location was wonderful and well equiped. We could open our windows to the canal and hear the singers on the gondolas all day long. It made for a wonderful ambiance.

First, the apartment is brilliant, clean and an incredible location. However, if you haven't been to Venice before, be warned it and most rooms in Venice are tiny. Nothing to do with Diamante, just space is a premium. I tried to match the shots and was using a 14mm lens and I couldn't make the room look as big as it does. I don't have any criticisms at all so here are some tips. Location incredible 3 meters from the canals with gondolas. If you are used to renting in the UK, be warned, there is no concept of "welcome pack" so you need to go shopping before you can even have a cup of tea !!! There is a "kitchen" where you can heat soup or spaghetti but that is it - just two hot plates, no oven or microwave. So you can't heat anything and certainly can't buy fish at the market and cook for dinner. Actually we found it a bit of wasted space. If you plan to use the sofa bed as well - book both apartments. The normal bed plus sofa bed = all available space, and you won't take it in and out every day believe me !!! Don't book the water taxi yourself, even if you save 20 euro. They won't take you to where you want to be and you will have a long walk. We were put in a spare taxi (the booked one had a problem) the driver was going to drop us other site of St Marks. I just contacted Truely Venice and they sorted it all. Driver wasn't too happy when he found what he had agreed to. Likewise, returning, taxi couldn't get near because of building work, Truely Venice sorted it !! Finally, read the guest folder - yes I know we should have, but we wasted two days researching info that was in the folder. Read it cover to cover, it will pay off. They recommend "a beccafico" for eating and having wasted £££ we finally got there and wish we had gone on day 1 - brilliant see other review. Would I go back - you bet, counting the days to our next visit - you couldn't want a better location - ideal to pop in for rest or even loo visit - very important believe me!!

Ideal central location on canal junction, so taxi took us all the way to the entrance. No lift of course but on first floor so minimum stairs to climb. On junction of two canals so always something interesting to watch, including Japanese tourists in gondolas who photographed us thinking we must be locals. The apartments were generally in good condition but for one or two small quibbles like a sticking shower door, a jammed shutter. Heating was needed and did not find instructions until the day we left.
