Description from the owner

If you're looking for self catering accommodation with a typically Venetian feel, in a quiet location with easy access to the historic sights and bustling waterways of Venice, Casa Battello is ideal. Situated in a narrow "sotoportego", a typical Venetian side-street, the house is very close to the local waterbus stops, the Grand Canal, and the Jewish Ghetto, a place of great historical significance for Venice. This is self-catering accommodation at its most practical - as well as a fully fitted kitchen with double sink, fridge-freezer, gas cooker with electric oven, grill and hob, and microwave, the house is just minutes away from the excelle...Read more

      great every day venice experience

Left on 05/17/2013 for a stay in April 2013

Casa Batallo gave us the opportunity to enjoy Venice at our own pace. I loved shopping wonderful vegetables and sea food at the markets. The area has plenty of great small shops like deli/grocers, butchers, wine shops and bakers. The kitchen is well equipped making it a joy to cook. There are even books on Venice cooking.
The house is easy to live in. There are excellent manuals to every eventuality - like using the washing machine. You are not afraid to use the house. The furniture and equipment appears quite robust yet at the same time convenient.
I would recommend renting a house/flat instead of staying at a hotel. You end up walking a lot in Venice and benches are not that common. It is so much nicer to rest your tired legs at home in the pleasant sitting room, perhaps sipping a glass of cooled wine and nibbling some olives.
I am definitely going back to Casa Batallo, probably next year.

An excellent base to explore Venice and its environs

Left on 04/21/2013 for a stay in April 2013

It's well-equipped and comfortable, but what we really like about Casa Battello is 'location, location, location'. It's ideally positioned for arrival/departure if you take the waterbus from the airport. It is in a quiet area, where you can almost persuade yourself that you are a Venetian and not a mere tourist, and where you can find excellent restaurants and shops in easy reach. Yet it's also easy to get to the Grand Canal, to the major tourist attractions in the city, and to the islands of Murano, Burano and Torcello.

Left on 04/02/2013 for a stay in March 2013

Great apartment in a good location. Easy to get to the vaporetto and alilaguna stops. I loved being able to do all my shopping in the shops along the Fondamenta di Cannaregio and have the shopkeepers wave and say hello. The kitchen was particularly well equipped. The arrangement for getting keys is particularly to be recommended as it gives flexibility for arrival in case the plane is late.
I enjoyed my stay very much.

      A magical stay in Venice

Left on 03/31/2013 for a stay in March 2013

As a first time visitor to Venice, Casa Battello proved to be a perfect retreat to charge one's batteries at the end of a long day and prepare for more enthralling adventures.

Conveniently located close to the Santa Lucia train station and two vaporetto stops, the house offers easy access to all main Venetian attractions, from the Grand Canal and Piazza San Marco to shorter trips to the islands of Murano, Burano and Torcello. The Cannaregio is a peaceful and less-touristy district of Venice full of history, independent stores and local flavour.

The hosts of Casa Battello have thought of everything and the kitchen comes fully equipped in case you want to prepare a feast or celebrate a special occasion. The house is very spacious and feels very home-y; the washing machine and its quick cleaning cycle comes in handy too.

Another great feature of renting this property is that the owners send you the keys beforehand, so visitors don't have to go pick up the keys first and drop them off later on.

All in all, my stay in Venice wouldn't have been as successful without the help of VisitVenice.co.uk!

Great little place - home from home in Venice!

Left on 02/28/2013 for a stay in February 2013

Casa Battello is in a great location in a quiet side street, very close to the water-bus stop, so very easy to access both from the airport and from San Marco. It had everything we needed and we much preferred coming 'home' after a long day out walking than staying in a hotel. With a 2-yr old it gave us the flexibility around nap times etc. We appreciated the well-equipped kitchen and the ample supply of books and games. I felt as though my grandmother's house had been magically transported to Venice when I saw the drying rack above the sink.

We loved our home from home - great to come back to and relax af

Left on 11/14/2012 for a stay in November 2012

Every little detail was covered, from finding the 'visit venice' site to the full information sent out to ease our passage and help visitors settle in to the new environment. There was a real personal commitment from the owners to the holidaymakers to ensure that we got the most from our stay. We enjoyed getting to know the locals and their willingness to help us and make us feel part of the community even if only temporarily. Although only there for a week it was good to see that we were accepted and smiled and waved to as we went by their shops(we made a point of shopping locally where possible). The house is so easy to find - a great advantage in Venice! We look forward to our return!!

Flexible accommodation close to station, Piazzale Roma, valporetto but far enough away from the main drag to be very quiet. Nearby valporetto went direct to Lido so we explored in the morning and went to the beach in the afternoon. The accommodation itself had everything we needed and more - although there is no outdoor space there was a view across the roof tops in the evening. Overall, it was exactly as described so we were very happy customers.

      Just great!!

Left on 07/31/2012 for a stay in July 2012

I spent a week in Venice together with friends in July 2012 at the Casa Battello. All of us were very impressed by the outstanding organization to rend the apartment. Casa Battello is located in a quiet area near to the ghetto. This was very much appreciated by all of us when we came back 'home' after a day visiting all these wonderful places. The apartment is very well equipped and comfortable for 5 people (you can even find rubber boots of your size in case of 'aqua alta' ?).
Very close there are lots shops for your grocery and a market for fresh fruits, vegetables and fish every morning until 12.00. The owner will provide a map with all these information.
You can either take the vaperetto at the station 'Giglio' right next to the apartment or walk 10 minutes to the Grande Canal.
      Everything was just perfect!
We had a great time, felt at home and can only recommend the place.

      Venice Break away

Left on 03/04/2012 for a stay in February 2012

The service received booking and planning our break was excellent. The administration in delivering the keys to us and the provision of information about the appartment, the local area, finding the appartment nad things to see and do in Venice was excellent and helped set the tone for our break. The house was comfortable nd functional meeting our needs and expectations. The information supplied in the house really helped us to plan our daily excursions. The local shops were all very helpful, of particular note was the tabacconist just around the corner at the end of the passage, with good local knowledge and advice. We also had a good service from the pharmacy. We particularly enjoyed eating in the local restaurants which are off the tourist route and frequented by local people. We made good use of the 7 day atcv water bus tickets. The best bit for us was being part of the carnival, participating in costume activities and then after the carnival finished we experienced our first opera in a private palace as it would have been some 200 years ago.

A truly authentic way to experience Venice!

Left on 01/12/2012 for a stay in December 2011

Casa Battello's situation in the Canareggio district of Venice was a great way to experience the city. Far from the tourist areas, yet easy walking distance to San Marco and other sites, we feel we were able to see far more of the city than we would have otherwise.

The apartment is simply but comfortably decorated, the kitchen well-equipped. As a family of four we could have benefited from a larger or better decorated/arranged sitting area on the first floor but we managed well nonetheless. I think this apartment might be better suited to two persons.

The owners are terrific. Well organized and efficient and provide excellent information and resources. Loved that Wellingtons were at our disposal though, fortunately, we did not need them.

We would definitely revisit Venice and recommend 'visitvenice.co.uk' although we probably would try one of their larger apartments.

We had a wonderful time. The house was lovely and in a fantastic location. Very central but on a quiet street. We got a water taxi from the airport which was a bit pricey but the water bus stops just on the end of the street. The house was well equiped clean and comfortable. No TV which was bliss though a cd player or Ipod docking station would have been good. We would highly recommend the house to anyone and will certanly lovr to return.

I stayed in Casa Battello with my family (family of 5) 3rd week of May 2011.

The Owners have been very detailed and attentive to their guests and needs. They have been extremely communicative.

They have pretty much covered everything you might possibly need and have detailed instructions on what is where and how to use it.

The only thing I might say was missing was a TV.

Location is perfect and easy walking from the Train Station and vaporetto routes. It is away from the main tourist traffic so is so much more quiet and peaceful.

Would definitely recommend to anyone considering staying in Venice.

This is a very convenient base from which to explore Venice - easy to get to from the airport or the rail station, and easy to get into central Venice by vaporetto or on foot. Equally well-placed for the vaporetto to the islands of Murano, Burano and Torcello. Well-equipped self-catering accommodation, with lots of local information provided by the thoughtful owners. The house is in Cannaregio, a quiet and pleasant area, to which it is a delight to return after the bustle of Piazza San Marco! Excellent local specialist shops (we didn't enter a supermarket once), and a good choice of restaurants and bars.

A weeks wandering and floating discovering the real Venice

Left on 11/29/2010 for a stay in October 2010

Casa Battello is a delightfully appointed small house, easily accessible from the Bus/Train station. It is in real Venice, easy to lose the tourists, you almost feel like a local. Wander to the edge of The Cannaregio canal and look out onto the lagoon and the mountains in the distance, magical. The reading matter in the house is second to none and the local shops are a must, especially the coffee shop, local grocer and the little fish market. Get your wine from the barrel in the numerous shops dotted about Cannaregio 2.50 a litre or less, Ok it comes in plastic bottles, just get over it. The places to go are too numerous to mention, just do your planning and buy a travel ticket for as long as you can afford, hop off and on the boats and see what takes your fancy, if you don't like it wait for the next boat and move on. Don't forget to catch a traghetto to the Rialto fish market and have the balls to try to stand up, its not as easy as it looks. The deli near the Rialto market in the information, is absolutely divine, here you can pay ?80 for a bottle of balsamic vinegar, try putting that on your strawberries. Overall, myself wife and a sprightly 87 year old mother in law, could not have had a better place to stay, but we would say that wouldn't we.

A very comfortable 'home from home'.

Left on 11/15/2010 for a stay in November 2010

The house is a cosy and convenient place from which to explore Venice, both the main tourist sights (an easy walk) and the other islands as the 51/52 & 41/42 vaporetto stop is close. Having the option of a bed downstairs and a lounge upstairs accommodates those who need to be near a bathroom at night. The property, being a real house, has a feeling of spaciousness. The furniture and furnishings are all of a good quality (many John Lewis items which gave us the giggles imagining it being delivered by them via canal), the kitchen so well equipped you could bake a cake if you felt so inclined!
Having no view or outside space of any kind could be considered a disadvantage however we found it made us go out even on rainy days rather than waste our holiday staying in.

Perfect for our baby's first overseas trip

Left on 10/19/2010 for a stay in September 2010

We have only recently started looking at self catering, following the birth of our baby 6 months ago. We feel as if we chose the perfect option with Casa Battello in Venice. The level of organisation was brilliant and felt very personal -we almost felt like temporary residents rather than tourists, and we made good use of the restaurant and shop recommendations. The house was extremely well stocked, especially the kitchen; as we were staying in each evening we really appreciated this and enjoyed cooking up a storm with produce from the nearby market.
The flat worked really well for our young baby as we could put her to sleep upstairs and spend our evenings downstairs without disturbing her. The side street location is very quiet, but does mean that the downstairs can feel a little dark - this would be the same for any house that is reached off one of the small Venetian streets. It didnt detract from our enjoyment. Our only gripe - we wish now that we'd stayed for 2 weeks instead of just one, as we didn't see half the things we wanted to... not least because we kept being stopped by friendly Venetians wanting to chat to our baby! At least we have a good excuse to go back.

A very comfortable apartment, with an extremely well-equipped kitchen. Its location was ideal - in Cannaregio - handy for the railway station, with a nearby waterbus stop to reach other parts of the city, yet in a quiet and peaceful side-street. A fascinating area to wander round, with the historic Ghetto and the northern lagoon both very near. The whole rental operation was extremely smooth and reliable. I especially liked receiving the keys several days before leaving home, complete with very clear instructions, so there's no problem if you have a late arrival time, or are delayed. The apartment has an excellent selection of guide books, and other books about Venice, and all the local information you could possibly need.

The location in Canareggio is perfect. A lot of characterful local amenity, and the opportunity to feel part of a living, working Venice, if only for a short time.

The property, and the organisation by the proprietor is exemplary. As well as information about the house that leaves nothing to chance, the succint, but insightful guide to shopping and eating around the locality is excellent.
