In addition to the stunning views of the sea,the apartment has the benefit of its own exclusive terrace

From the apartment you can just step onto a mountain path and walk through the mountains up and beyond the French border. . The village is blissfully quiet. The best place Ive stayed

Left on 11/29/2012 for a stay in October 2012

It was magnificent! views off white shaded terraces with spa on one level and out door cooking facilities. Amazing features tgat have been incorporated into the restoration of these 500 year old buildings: Nicole has incorporated her skill as a scultpress into this wonderful design- Take for. instance the shower tgat shows the stars at night and views over tge mediterian in the day time. People were so friendly you didnt feel like a tourist! But there were so many riurist sites nearby such as Monet'sdolceaqua and Monaco. Maria Rosa's cooking was amazing and traditional Ligarian-I can"t wait to get back!

Left on 11/25/2012 for a stay in October 2012

      Magical Experience !!!

Left on 09/07/2012 for a stay in August 2012

This is the second summer we've stayed at thEe Villa darte. It was truly a magical unforgettable experience for me and my husband, our parents, and our little 4 year old son. This is one of those places where you definitely wish the vacation never ended! The location was idyllic (super easy to get to neighbouring mention, Italy/Monaco,either by car or bus...or cycling/running) and the weather was perfect. The owner's attention to detail is second to none, and we couldn't have been better taken care of! This was a very special experience, one that will be etched in our hearts forever. We love the South of Franceand italy, and we love the magical Villa darte! Lynn, Renee, and Sophie

      Not what we were expecting

Left on 08/11/2012 for a stay in July 2012

We originally tried to book a one bedroom house but it was booked for the week we wanted .Miss Durand said she had a studio appt free for that week.We agreed to book it even though there were no photos of appt The description said it was beach location with village square with cafe's bars and shops. This was not true
Whe arrived at 8 in the evening .The Village was up a mountain with scary narrow roads with hairpin bends . There was no way you could walk to the Meaditeranean like it said in he advert When we were shown the accomadatiom we were gob smacked. It was like a cave with curved roof, There was a bed ,sink unit with minimal utensils and crockery.a shoulder high curve wall with toilet wash basin and make shift shower . Ther was no bed side tables drawers or wardrobes .If you like living out of suitcase that's ok but we don't.
The only true thing was the views which were spectacular
Nicole was very welcoming and arranged for a meal to be cooked by a neighbour which was very good. She only charged us 25 Euro.
We had to tell her that we could stay no more than one night. No refund was offered.
We are frequent travellers and this is the first time this has ever happened .
We left the following morning and had to find alternative accomadatiom for the rest of our stay.

keine 5 Sterne aber fair mit Flair

Left on 10/03/2011 for a stay in September 2011

      Extremely rustic accommodation

Left on 08/18/2011 for a stay in April 2011

We stayed only one night in the petite apartment that is the one with small balcony and terrace next to it. We were booked to stay there for one week but left after one night. The double bed is in a very small loft that has a very low ceiling and to get into one must climb a very unsafe/unstable ladder. The children slept on the futon. All of the linens and towels were very old and threadbare. Some of the pillows were old brown pieces of foam. The dwelling was very damp and had a strong smell of mildew. The tiny kitchenette had almost no dish/glassware and was in a terrible state. The bathroom was very uncomfortable and felt much too "handmade" and sink was tiny. Generally it felt like we were camping. The tv was not working and the internet was via a cord pulled into terrace door from outside aside from the nice view and pleasant disposition of the owner I can say nothing else positive about this place.

      Almost Camping in Monaco

Left on 08/11/2011 for a stay in August 2011

This place has tons of unrealized potential. The location is up on the hills just above Menton France and Ventimiglia Italy, the acutal village name is Mortola Superiore in Italy. It consists of several disconnected apartments in a huddle of connected houses. It has many people living who are full time residents of the various connected apartments and houses. We rented the place Nicole calls Grotto #2. The name fits perfectly, it is a cave. The unit is not habitable as a holiday self catering unit. The unit needs electrical work, the breaker blows every one minute if you try to use appliances. The shower needs a curtain and obviously has for some time because the laminate flooring is buckled outside the bathroom and the whole place smells of mildew. The bathroom sink and vanity is very cute, but completely non-functional and impossible to keep clean. The entire place is acutally not kept clean. She needs mouse traps, and she provides ant spray. It does not have air conditioning and it needs one. The kitchen has little in the way of tools, but actually doesn't matter because you cant cook there anyway. The unit is stated as two double beds, but in reality is is one double bed in a loft above the kitchen suspended 3 feet below the ceiling, and a futon couch which folds flat to a bed suitable for one adult or maybe two small children. The concept Nicole has is a really good one. She has combined her art studios and rental apartments and she is able to offer a really special environment for dedicated artists to work, with "makeshift" studios on the garden terraces and apartment dwelling nearby. Unforntunately, she is a much better artist than landlord. Generally, the grounds of her property is unkempt. There are stacks of excess materials, lumber, metal, stones, baskets, old furniture, etc. all around the garden areas. It is apparent that she has tried to make a nice place, but she has got too much junk all over the property to make the gardens enjoyable. We visisted her studio which was much the same, filled with junk in every corner. The view from the terrace of Grotto #2 would actually not be bad, except that it is blocked by shower curtains and a clothes line, and pots of dying plants everywhere. (PS: why wouldn't you use the shower curtains in the bathroom instead?) We are troopers and stayed here for 8 nights, only becuase we had paypaled her the deposit and I figured we were tough and could handle it. This is the kind of accommodation that could ruin a persons vacation, so make sure you know what you are getting into. There is heavy construction occurring on the property as well. I know this is a normal part of life, but the jackhammer and cement mixer starts at exactly 8:30 every morning and goes all day until 5:00 (except Sunday), I would have expected Nicole to mention this in our many emails, but I guess she forgot. We paid 110EUR per night which is 156USD. On the bright side, we all laugh and will never forget our "camping" trip at Villa D'Arte. Next time we'll just pitch a tent.
