You will be staying on the premises of flamboyant French-Italian artist Nicole Durand. Her atelier and art gallery is app. 200 meters away from your apartment and you are always welcome to drop by. In addition to the stunning views of the sea,the apartment has the benefit of its own exclusive terrace

From the apartment you can just step onto a mountain path and walk through the mountains up and beyond the French border. . The village is blissfully quiet. The inhabitants are all very friendly and there are parties and celebrations regularly held on the church square. In the evenings you can enjoy the clear starry sky and the sea magicall...y illuminated by the moonlight.or you can go to Menton or Monte Carlo to find all kind of cultural events

The village is full of fruit trees with ripening lemons, figs and grapefruits. The supermarket, a restaurant and a bar can be reached within app. 5 minutes by car. Mortola Superiore practically borders with France, the lovely town of Menton is only 2,5 km away. Here you will enjoy the best of the two countries: a typical Italian mountain village at a hand’s reach from the worldly Cote d’Azur.

Location & Nearby Attractions:

Mortola Superiore is only 2 km away from the French Cote D’Azur where you can witness all kinds of events, all year round. Think about the Gran Prix of Monaco, the Cannes film festival, or the ‘Masters’ tennis tournament of Monte Carlo. Also other places, such as Grasse and Provence, are within easy reach from Mortola. On the other side, there is La Dolce Vita, Italy. Mortola lies app. at an 8 km distance from a vivacious town at the seaside, Ventimiglia.

You can choose between the sun, the sea and the beach on the one hand and on the other - a rigorous mountain walk amidst the beautiful nature of the Ligurian Alps. In the neighbourhood you will find many picturesque medieval villages, such as Dolceaqua, Pigna and Apricale. The famous city of San Remo can be easily reached as well, whether you take the motorway or drive the beautiful country road along the coastline. Lovely sand beaches (with possibilities to go windsurfing, waterskiing, watching dolphins or making coast excursions), cosy bays and impressive rock masses lie within the range of 10 km.

In the summer the little inland villages hold characteristic folk festivals. There are good pizzerias and fish restaurants at the seaside. Also the famous botanic gardens ‘Giardini Hanbury’ (+/- 3km) are definitely worth a visit. Everywhere you will find little shops to buy Ligurian specialties, such as pesto, olive pâté, wine and extra virgin olive oil.

  Up in the hills it is cooler than the coast of course.The accommodation is very basic but "adequate".If you are lucky there might be more than one of things like cups,mugs,glasses and with luck knives that can actually cut stuff!Dont expect matching crockery or sets of utensils... and luckily I had my own bottle opener!There was an old saucepan,maybe you would expect a cutting board and basic kitchen things or supplies like salt and pepper,sugar,coffee perhaps to get you started-but there were none.
  A few assorted old pieces of cutlery.No luxuries whatsoever.If you are lucky there might be a toilet roll or leftover washing up liquid-be prepared to provide absolutely everything yourself to survive-there is no welcome pack-and the shops are down the hill 3 miles away in the town!A car is essential and if you want music or tv bring your own.But then that is not what this location is about.its not a hotel it is -and is equivalent to- student accommodation..I was there to learn a little about stonecarving- which will take more years than I have and being deprived of worldly luxuries at home focused the mind on why I was there in the first place.An experience-unique and more valuable than just a holiday and you meet people on a different level than you would on just a holiday.An experience!

  Fabulous Villa d'Arte

  I really loved the pictures of the villa d'arte on the internet but of course I didn't know what to expect when I got there. I am used to travelling in 5 stars and my standards are quite high but I wanted to do an art course, be near the sea and live in a village so the villa d'arte ticked all the boxes. What I didn't know was that the place was uber special!!! the apartments are so individual. Mine had a lovely terrace where I often ate and painted. Beautiful veiws of the mountains and the sea. Great beaches with 5 star service are only moments away and the food stores are to die for! Nicole Durrand, the proprietor is a most engaging person, charming, extremely talented artist ( but she is very humble, you have to push her to show you her studio etc) She is wonderful hostess too, she can't do enough for her guests. The course of great too and people that came were so much fun, locals from Menton, Nice, Mortola and Monte Carlo. What a blast, I am definitely going back next year.

  a huge disappointment

  We had no seaview from the apartment, there was a building site next door,we got bedbug bites, no bedding for the sleeper couch and the place was dirty. We were on a family holiday and cut our holiday short due to the above...we were very disappointed and it did not meet our expectations at all.

  I arrived and Nicole met me at the bus. And the adventure began. The little village of Mortola Superior is fantastic. I stayed in the first flat of the little village complex of 30 families. It was charming. Efficient and not extravagant at all. Suited my needs perfectly. There was a tiny terrace with a spectacular vista. I dined here many a day with my ipod music on and relaxing mesmerized by the ocean. It was compact and everything I needed was there. I can not say enough about the stay and Nicole. Fabuloso!!!
