My husband, our 3 year old and I stayed in the freshwater 1bedroom apartment for 1 week in Feb 2013 for our last week in Melbourne. We were moving overseas and needed a furnished apartment for our last week in the city. Southbank is our favorite part of Melbourne, so it was only natural that we wanted to stay in Southbank before leaving Melbourne for good.
The apartment was beautiful, spacious, clean and most importantly so well located. The owners have thought of everything. I loved the fact that we were greeted at the apartment and the person explained how everything works and if we forgot what she said, there was a binder in the apartment with all of the info written down.
The building is gorgeous, the pool (not heated) and BBQ area are great as well. The building is located across the road from an IGa grocery store for anything you may need. There is also an abundance of restaurants in walking distance. Southbank is at your doorstep as is the Crowne Casino. At night, you could hear the fire from the towers in front of the casino. I think that was my favorite part about the apartment.
All in all, I highly recommend this apartment. A great choice for anyone wanting to stay in Melbourne.Response from Gem Apartments Short Stay - 05/04/2013

Thank you for your lovely review - it is always wonderful to hear that a guest has thoroughly enjoyed our accommodation.
I just wanted to point out because it may be a bit misleading, the swimming pool is heated to a temperature that is comfortable to exercise in.
You must have been there on a bad week because usually it is a really nice temperature to swim in.
The spa is the same temperature as the swimming pool - so it is not a hot spa. -

My wife and I were on our honeymoon and Melbourne was our first stop. We stayed here for 5 nights and enjoyed it tremendously. If you are thinking of staying at a Melbourne hotel, scrap that idea and stay here instead!!
Booking the apartment was easy and fuss-free - thanks to Kellie from Gems apartment whose service was excellent and helpful throughout the booking process. Once the booking was confirmed, Kellie sent me the check-in instructions - very efficient!
Upon arrival and collection of the apartment key and carpark airkey, we were briefed on the apartment and carpark secured access. If you are driving, you can view this Youtube video on the driving route to the Freshwater Place carpark - www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ouezn5qcsee.
The apartment is exactly what you see on the Tripadvisor and Gem apartments websites. It is kept very clean and well-equipped - just like a home. You can find utensils, cutlery, wine glasses, oven etc. Love the huge LCD TV, iPod dock speakers, sofa and free Wifi too.
The view from the 22nd floor apartment is nice but would have been better if Crown Promenade was not in the way.
I must say that Freshwater Place is very secure and its location at Southbank along the Yarra River is perfect. On the ground level, you have a convenience store, McDonald's, Subway, cafes and restaurants.
For those who are not driving in Melbourne, you only need 5 minutes or less to walk to the CBD and Flinders Street Station. Around the Freshwater Place area, you can easily find a supermarket, wine store, Asian grocery store along City Road - only takes about 5-10 minutes to walk.
Restaurants along City Road include Sopranos (Italian) and Wayside Inn (steakhouse) - if you like steaks, you must eat at Wayside Inn!!
I would also highly recommend these places to eat in Melbourne - Andrews Hamburgers, OZ Kebabs, Pacific Seafood BBQ House, Proud Mary, Pope Joan, Rose Garden BBQ, Little Creatures Dining Hall, Stokers Pancakes, I Love Pho and Donovans.
We will definitely stay here again when we return to Melbourne in future. Keep the good work, Gems apartments! Cheers! -

I recently stayed at Freshwater Place with my parents while I was in Melbourne for a conference. The location was spectacular as it was a 10 minute walk to the Convention Centre and a 5 minute walk to the free City Circle tram that takes you around the city.
The apartment was extremely clean and well-equipped. My family and I were even surprised with some of the extra amenities that the apartment contained (e.g. sandwich maker, lots of cutlery and dishware). The view is beautiful both during the day and at night. It was wonderful to be able to see the Fire Display at the Casino across the street.
What really made this experience great, though, was the manager Kelly. She is so kind and wonderful at answering questions and responding to emails. She was very accommodating with the key pick-up and even took ups up to the apartment to show us around and explain anything we needed to know.
I would highly recommend staying at Freshwater Place with Gem apartments if you are looking for a convenient and comfortable stay.

My partner and I stayed at this one bedroom apartment with our 13 yr old son. We all agreed that it was a much nicer experience than staying in a hotel.We were in a fantastic location with everything we wanted within walking distance.Shops,restaurants and bars were all close by. The apartment is very stylish,modern and clean and Kellie,the manager was on hand as we arrived with a warm greeting and clear instructions as to car parking,Wi-fi etc. There is access to a great gym with sauna,indoor pool and steam room in the building. We would definitely like to make a return visit.

Nothing to fault with this apartment - the best location for a tourist wanting to explore any part of central Melbourne. The facilities were stunning and the apartment had great river and city views.
Nothing negative to share - I will defiantly be returning to stay at this apartment, and would not hesitate in recommending this rental property to friends and family.

Enjoyed our stay, except the windows in the main bedroom need to be double glazed for sound, as the air conditioner on the roof of the building below went on all night, making it difficult to sleep. Overall the building was great for location to the city.

The apartment was great, very comfortable and it had everything that you might need for your stay. The view from the windows was amazing,looking down upon the Yarra and even stretching as far as the bay. The location was also great, right in the heart of Southbank and central to everything.I would like to come back next year.

That is a luxuriously appointed one-bedroom apartment on the 22nd floor (great view through floor-to-ceiling windows) of Freshwater 1 building on Melbourne's Southbank. It comfortably accommodated our
family of four with 4 and 2 y.o. children, using a couple of inflatable beds in the living room. Parking space in the same building is a great convenience, though the locations makes most of Melbourne CBD easily accessible by foot. Kids loved the lap pool on the 10th floor, wife took advantage of the steam room there. Excellent deal on a great property. Would definitely stay there again and recommend to anyone.
