The Cottage is a delightful refuge close to downtown Victoria and a stone's throw from the ocean. After a long walk by the ocean, it's a perfect place to put your feet up in front of the gas fire and enjoy the view of the lovely garden through the wall of windows. The bedroom loft has an enormous bed and a view of the sun rising over the ocean in the mornings. The kitchen is amply equipped, and we even managed to have a dinner for 6 during our stay. What more can we say, other than we're already booked for next year!

Charming retreat in a beautiful part of Victoria

This cottage was a lovely place to stay for a week in Victoria. I appreciated the flowers, tea, and shortbread! It's a few paces to a lovely beach. Definitely a serene place to stay.

      A Blissful Retreat

Left on 09/10/2012 for a stay in September 2012

We have just returned from a week's stay at Sunrise Cottage. The cottage is a beautiful, extremely clean retreat steps from the ocean. We enjoyed our trip and our stay immensely.

The cottage is very private in a lovely garden setting. A claw foot tub, a king-sized bed with lots of pillows, a gas fireplace, a cookable kitchen and restful reading chairs and a couch made for a perfect home away from home. We biked into the center of Victoria with ease. Cadboro Bay Village is easy accessible for purchasing marvelous local products.

With many happy memories, The Smiths

      Delightful!

Left on 08/02/2012 for a stay in July 2012

What a wonderful place! The setting was simply gorgeous. Driving to and from the cottage each day was a mini-adventure with wildlife and fabulous views. The weather was terrific while we were there which added to our overall enjoyment of Victoria and the cottage.

The cottage itself is a very nice size. We loved having access to a kitchen for our week-long stay. The bed was extremely comfortable (and there are very few places about which I can say that!). Having the bedroom and bathroom on different floors was a bit of an inconvenience, but not a big problem. The toilet broke the day before we left, but we were able to do temporary fixes as needed. My only complaint is that we found the couch quite uncomfortable.

A lovely beach with bench is just steps away and was a great little spot for relaxing.

Overall, it was a delightful stay and we hope to return in the future.

We were so pleased that Nan was so accommodating when the toilet workings malfunctioned. It was a weekend and we were unable to get a plumber until Monday but she was very gracious about turning the water cistern off and on. Our antique sofa built in the 1890's is primarily to please the eye and follow with the theme of our heritage cottage but there are two very comfortable reading chairs, a wing back and soft cushioned chair. We love getting comments and strive to make the cottage as perfect as it can be. Thank you Nan for your positive comments. We hope to welcome you for a future visit

Think of a happy combination of  classy country cottage and luxurious shabby chic. Add original works of art, antiques and artifacts and  a comfortable bed. Among the kitchen surprises was a fully stocked spice rack, tea towels for each day of the week and a little basket of goodies that included homemade marmalade. Weekly cleaning and linen change adds to the  "private hotel" feeling.

The view from the cove is spectacular especially when Mt Baker makes an appearance through the clouds.  The neighborhood is tranquil, close to Cadboro Bay.
A car is needed for sightseeing trips although the walking/hiking in Victoria is wonderful.

Charming hosts are there should you need something. They are mindful of their guests' solitude.

      Highly recommended--great value.

Thank you for your amusing review - like your combination of classy cottage shabby chic because that is exactly the feeling I was trying to capture with the silver tea service and metal cows over the mantle piece, new silk tartan lampshade next to my grandmothers old wing back chair. What's next? Who knows?

I had a wonderful 10 day stay in this beautiful cottage. In the rain, it's exactly the cozy place you want to be, with the gas fireplace and sound of raindrops on the roof. In the sun it is positively inspirational.

Private but not isolated. Close to a village with a pub, grocery store, book store and coffee shop. I highly recommend this choice.

A most charming home away from home

Left on 01/16/2012 for a stay in June 2011

Our stay at the Sunrise Garden Cottage was one of most lovely travel surprises. We could not get over the charm of this delightful hide-away; and yet, so conveniently located with all and more we needed, all tucked inside the most romantic English Garden Cottage. We have never slept better in the heavenly beds in the loft bedrooom just under the trees. Returnung `home`from our daily Island discovery tours, it was like coming home to an enchanted dream.
How did our hostess create this amazing floral bouquet that greeted us in the living room and the floral spray on the front door? It's this attention to detail that made this place so heartwarming.
The surroundings invited us to a daily after-dinner-walk. How could we resist with the ocean just around the garden gate, deer gazing at us from the delightful private gardens and unexpected trails leading us through the neighbourhood? Yes, we would go back in a heartbeat!

A great location, a beautiful vintage cottage, for a great price

Left on 01/15/2012 for a stay in September 2011

We stayed in this lovely restored apple barn in September of 2011. The cottage itself is beautifully furnished in a rustic and romantic vintage style with a beautiful wall of floor length windows that offer a lovely view of the gardens. The sunsets are beautiful from the two lawn chairs on the water in front of the main house. Everything from the welcome basket of homemade goodies and fresh flowers to the equipped kitchen and comfortable bed were wonderful. The location is also terrific- minutes to many small villages such as Oak Bay as well as downtown Victoria and attractions such as Butchart Gardens. We thought this rental was a great value as well compared to several other places we stayed on the West Coast. This spot will be our first choice if we return to this area.

Perfect accommodation at a reasonable price

Left on 01/15/2012 for a stay in September 2011

Sunrise Garden Cottage is perfect for two people. It is in a beautiful residential area very close to the ocean. In fact I took my morning coffee down to the bay beside the cottage every morning, sat on a huge log and felt completely at peace. As an avid walker I enjoyed exploring the neighbourhood but it was also great just to relax in the garden or on the patio. The king size bed in the loft is very comfortable and all the linens etc. are of high quality. The only caveat I would make is to inform anyone renting the cottage that while the bedroom is upstairs in the huge loft the bathroom is on the ground floor. The the stairs are certainly not steep but this could present a problem for anyone with monility issues. Luckily, even though we are "seniors" it was OK for us. There was a welcoming basket og "goodies"waiting for us and lots of information about what to see and do in Victoria and on Vancouver Island. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Sunrise Cottahe.
