Additional Location Information
This beautiful home is located in a quiet Fairfield neighbourhood within walking distance to downtown Victoria with its nightlife, museums and many heritage spots.
You can enjoy the center of the city, or you can stay home and walk two blocks to trendy Cook Street Village, which has been described as one of the most popular spots in the city. There you will find all you need in its many shops which include outdoor food stalls, cafes, restaurants, boutiques, antique stores, a bank, clinics, and many other amenities.
The home is located beside beautiful Beacon Hill Park.
Beacon Hill Park......
This beautiful and interesting park is described as one of Victoria's 'crowning jewels'. It would be difficult to argue with this once you have spent a day exploring its 62 acres of natural beauty. It doesn't matter what you're in the mood for, a day in this magical park will offer you something.
Beacon Hill is a beautifully landscaped and manicured park with gardens, ponds, stone bridges, and alpine, rock gardens. There are also large areas of the park that have been left in their natural state, the fallen trees creating a sculptural landscape amongst the natural grasses and native plants.
The park is home to many exotic and native trees, including Garry Oak, Arbutus, Douglas-fir, and Western Red Cedar - to name just a few. A colony of Great Blue Herons, which once numbered over 100 nests, has returned to its nesting grounds in the park this year, after being chased away by a family of Bald Eagles in 2008.
Beacon Hill park is for visitors and locals alike, regardless of age. It's a delightful place for children to spend the day..... there's a petting zoo, playgrounds, a wading pool and picnic areas, live music in the band-shell and one of the world’s tallest Totem Poles.
It goes on and on.....
Now, let's move on to the Village......
Cook Street Village...Lively and colorful, it is full of charm and character, with something for everyone.
The streets are pedestrian friendly with a small village atmosphere. There are outdoor food courts, fruit and vegetable vendors, markets, cafes and restaurants, a butcher, a bakery, antique shops and boutiques.
Patios and cafes? Well, you have over ten to choose from along three city blocks, year round! Oh, and did I mention the neighbourhood pub?
Our beautiful little village is practical too! You can find all of the day to day things you might need... banks, clinics, pharmacy, post office, hair salons, spas, chiropractor.... We have it all!
A walk along the ocean on Dallas Road?
I hope you like dogs. It's an off-leash area, and there are lots of great dogs and owners to watch and share the space with. Walk along the walkway, or sit on a bench and enjoy the view of the ocean and the snow-covered mountains across the way.
You might decide to spend the day down on the beach collecting rocks or reading a book .....and in case you forget your book..... not to worry. We also have a used-book store in the village, which is right next to one of the antique shops, and directly across from the wine store. Well, you get the picture.
I could go on and tell you about how you can walk downtown to the Parliament Buildings, the Empress Hotel, the Museum, Thunderbird Park, Inner Harbour and the night-life. I could also mention that by simply going in the other direction from Dragonfly Cottage, you come to the Art Gallery of Victoria, the Governor General’s House, and Craigdarrogh Castle.
And the best part? You've barely left your front door.....I told you it was paradise.
Everyone who has stayed in Dragonfly Cottage has loved the experience. Doesn't this sound like the perfect way to spend your time in Victoria?

LangleyExceeded our expectations! Perfect for Vacation or Wedding Venue
Left on 05/11/2013 for a stay in May 2013
I found Toula's place online as we wanted to rent a home instead of a hotel room during our daughter's wedding in Victoria and we were not disappointed! It is so charmingly decorated. Bright, clean, cheery, inspiring. Toula made us feel very welcome with fresh flowers and even a bottle of wine and chocolates as she knew it was just me and my daughter on our last night together before the rest of the family arrived. She was very helpful. My daughter's and I loved the clawed bathtub . It was the perfect place for our Fri night rehearsal tea.The kitchen is fully appointed. The house and grounds were perfect for photos the next morning before we drove the bride and bridesmaids to the ceremony. The location is awesome: one house away from Beacon Hill Park , which is lovely, and lends itself to awesome photos also. Also, families will love the Children's Zoo there. Don't miss the "Running of the Goats"! And one or one and a half blocks walk down Pendergast Street takes you to "Cook Street Village" , a trendy area to have coffee, browse funky shops etc. And only minutes to downtown. The trails in Beacon Hill Park are amazing, and we did drive over to the other side of the park and had famous icecream at the Beacon Drive Inn on Douglas Street near Mile Zero, and beach access is right near there as well. Being able to bring our dogs was wonderful. We can't wait to go back! (it would be an excellent venue for our next women's book club!)

My husband & two kids (age 1 & 3yrs) stayed for 1 week. From the minute we arrived Toula was warm & welcoming. The house is in an ideal location! Couldn't be better for a family with kids. We visited Cook Street Village everyday. Beacon Hill Park is "dragonfly's" backyard. The house is beautifully decorated!! The kitchen is fully stocked with everything you could possibly need. Toula had a playpen & highchair set up for my daughter. And she offered to babysit while we went out in the evenings!!! How awesome is that!! We appreciated that so much. The house was spotless when we arrived. The yard is gated off & has a lovely patio set. Toula had a lovely gift for us on arrival & a special gift for my son.
We've been visiting Victoria yearly for 10 years & have always stayed at different places. Until now! We can't wait to visit again. There is no other place we will stay!!!Response from Toula Hatziioannou - 05/10/2013

Our family stayed at Dragonfly Cottage recently, and I would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone. The cottage is beautifully decorated, very comfortable, and everything works. (Unlike some rentals where we have stayed.) It is ideally located, right next to Beacon Hill Park and a little shopping center, close to downtown, but in a very quiet neighborhood. Toula is very nice and helpful. We would go back.

Staying at the Dragonfly Cottage was a wonderful experience. The beauty of the spacious character home... the surrounding, stunning scenery and 'explorability' of Beacon Hill Park... ... the accessibility to downtown, beach, and harbour. Toula is an excellent hostess and provided a sweet welcome gift as well as answers to any of our questions. It's a rare place where one can walk anywhere and find what is needed within a few blocks... and the Dragonfly provides that! Cook Street Village is a treat to meander down and pick up fresh vegetables, a few antiques and groceries, as well as eat at any of the restaurants. Clothing shops are nice as well.

Left on 04/17/2013 for a stay in March 2013
My husband and I had the good fortune of visiting our folks in Victoria who had rented the Dragonfly Cottage for the winter season. The cottage is located near the heart of downtown Victoria, close to beautiful Beacon Hill Park and just blocks from the ocean. Pubs, eateries, and coffee shops are a short walk away.
Dragonfly Cottage has been upgraded with thoroughly modern touches--beautiful hardwood floors, oversized windows, simply but elegantly furnished. I commented to our folks several times of the cleanliness and good taste of the owners. We slept on the spare bed and even it was very comfortable. The cottage is warm and welcoming, decorated painted in cream colored ivories with black accents. Not only is the cottage furnished, but the owner has added lovely wall hangings, knickknacks in alcoves and displays. The living room and dining room are light and airy. There is a lovely and warm flow to the home and we were utterly comfortable--it was overcast during our stay in the early spring. For those who like to get out and about on foot, Dragonfly Cottage is located in the heart of a walkable neighbohood. Just a block or two, and you're at the park, the ocean, local pubs, neighborhood store, and a number of different retail establishments and businesses.
Our folks loved the Cottage and their communications with the owner were great. We hope they plan to rent the home again. We'd love to come visit them and stay again at Dragonfly Cottage, as well. I can't imagine anyone renting the cottage who wouldn't feel relaxed and at home in such a cozy, tasteful, and quiet atmosphere.
Truly Dragonfly Cottage was a "Wow!" experience and a jewel of a find by our folks.
On a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 being the best, we give it a 10 wholeheartedly.Response from Toula Hatziioannou - 04/17/2013

Dear Margie,
Thank you for your kind and generous words about Dragonfly.
It was an absolute pleasure having your parents stay here for the winter. It gave me great joy to know they were enjoying themselves so much, and that they had the room to have visitors like yourselves.

We spent the first 5 nights of December 2012 having a relaxing and enjoyable time at the Dragonfly cottage. Toula, the owner, was very helpfull and a pleasure to meet. The property was very close to everthing downtown, and so is the ocean. We could have walked to most things in 15 minutes but lazy I guess!! The Cook Street Village and Beacon Hill Park are excellent for walking and relaxing. The Dragonfly Cottage has many charming attributes and is a unique tour on its own. The house had all the staples which are needed in a home.

We stayed here during our stay in Victoria, BC for american Thanksgiving, there were four of us and two dogs. Toula is very sweet and her home is absolutely beautiful! The location is prime, seconds walk to Beacon Hill Park and the dog beach, our pups loved it here. Also minutes from downtown, you don't really need a car at all. Toula lives upstairs and there are tenants downstairs but you would barely know that anyone was there, we did not see anyone come in or out during our three day stay. The house is sectioned off very neatly where the rental is on the main floor. We loved staying here and would definitely stay here again the next time we visit beautiful Victoria! Thanks Toula! :)

Thanks Toula for making us feel right at home, Dragonfly Cottage was perfect for our short stay in Victoria. The cottage like the owner has a warm feel to it, is beautifully presented and in a perfect location walking distance to the beach, a magicial park for our daughter to play and feed the ducks (petting zoo closed in October) and just one block from a tasteful shopping village. The kitchen was fully equipt with everything we needed and some, bathroom was a treat with a perfect size bath to soak your worries away, washer and dryer still sparkling and new and to top it all off I made a new friend, Toula you have a beautiful house and we will be back for sure. Thankyou Schenlee

I spent Labor Day weekend at Dragonfly Cottage for a long girls weekend with my mother, sister, aunts and cousins. First let me start by stating that the photos do not do this wonderful place justice! If you are looking for a charming little cottage feel that is close to everything the Dragonfly is it! We were literally a 10 minute walk from the main downtown area and another 10 minute walk from the water! Not to mention that one block away is the cutest little village that has anything you could want. If this had not been my first time visiting Victoria I would have been content sitting on the front porch drinking wine and walking down the street to check out the little shops and eat at the local restaraunts. While the actual cottage was amazing I think the best part of our weekend was getting to meet the owner Toula! Toula is probably one of the sweetest people I have ever met. If there was anything we needed she was more than accomodating and when I was raving to her about how much I loved the decor of the place she took time to tell me some of her decorating secrets! If you are heading to Victoria for a trip I would highly suggest looking into staying here. My husband and I are located in Portland and I have already told him we will be scheduling another trip up to Victoria and that we cannot stay anywhere else we have to stay at Dragonfly Cottage! Toula thank you for everything you are so wonderful :)
