Our guests like the apartment:
Because of the location: short walking distance to most everything worth visiting in Vienna; big public transport hub (Schottentor) steps away; friendly, authentic, safe and beautiful neighborhood; plenty of shops of all kinds, restaurants, cafes and bars.
Because of the architecture: the flat is located in a gorgeous building built in 1886. High, decorated ceilings and wooden floors.
Because of the decoration: a mix of period and modern, for a classic Imperial Vienna style feeling, with all today's comforts.
Because it is quiet: combined with the good quality beds and mattresses, a promise to a good night's sleep.

I'm glad to be the second Chinese staying at the apartment and be the first one to write a review. It's our first vacation rental and we find it very pleasant. Clean and cozy apartment, convenient transporation, nice and helpful landlord. Just two reminders for those who are used to staying at a hotel are noise and trash. You have to be quiet especially at night, for it's a very quiet building. And the garbage has to be sorted and thrown away at designated places. Read more
Thank you Lily for your great review!
Votivflat is indeed extremely quiet, which is exceptional especially given its very central location.

This lovely apartment features all the advantages of a great location without the usual downsides of staying in the centre of a big city. The apartment lies within walking distance of all the beautiful sites of vienna and is located above a Viennese cafe which features a very reasonably priced and tasty menu. The apartment faces inwards, towards the courtyard of the building and therefore is lovely and quiet and remains comfortably cool even when it's hot outside. The beds are very comfortable and the apartment features everything you require for a pleasant stay although the kitchen is a little on the small side. Monica and Christian are very welcoming and are prepared to help out when needed (printing our boarding cards for us as we had no access to a printer for example). A very enjoyable stay, we hope to return someday!

My father, mother, sister and I have spent a week in Vienna and we couldn't find a better place! The main advantage of the flat is its location - a walk to tram or subway station would take about 5 minutes. But you will hardly need the public transport as the flat is situated in the city center, and all the sights are within walking distance. The neighbourhood is very quiet and lovely, and you will easily find a couple of nices cafes and food shops.
The flat is quite spacious, airy and the amenities include everything a family needs. The kitchen is perfectly equipped (toster, coffe mashine, lots of cups and plates and everything). The beds are comfortable, all the towels are provided. Moreover, the DVD collection is nice. The flat is perfect for travelling with children! I can't remember we had any problems with the flat for the whole week.
The hosts Christian and Monica were very helpful and gave us priceless advice. They are friendly, easy-going and charming people! I want to thank them for making our holiday very pleasant, enjoyable and memorable.
I would certainly recommend this flat to people who travel with children or friends. I think the price is affordable and the service is perfect!

The apartment was quite cosy, with fairly large bathroom and master bedroom. There was also a large selection of tourist brochures, internet access and videos / board games for the kids. Having a washing machine / dryer was fantastic !!
I was happy with the location, being only a couple of minutes walk to the train line and within walking distance to supermarket / bakery. Even walking to the main heart of the city only took 20-30 mins.
The level of service from Christian and Monica was also fantastic - from assisting us with luggage upon arrival and departure, arranging our transport to the airport, lending us a shopping trolley and giving us recommendations on sights / attractions.
Dear Victor, it was a pleasure to have you as our guests. As for the distance from the center, I understand that it takes longer when you have to adjust to the speed of a six year-old, but at normal walking speed most attractions are within 10 to 15 minutes walk from the apartment.

We were travelling to a conference in Vienna, and Votivflat is very close to the University of Vienna where the conference was held. The location is excellent for visiting the University (2-3 minutes away), and is a few hundred yards from the Shottentor subway which makes it very easy to travel about the city.
The flat is in a quite old building which gives a good feeling of what it was like to live in the olden days. Although the building had no air conditioning (because of its age) and Vienna was in the middle of a heat wave, the flat was cool and tranquil to come back to - the windows faced an inner courtyard.
The space is excellent. it has a double bedroom and 2 single beds in the living room area, a huge bathroom with a washing machine (which was very much appreciated after travelling for 2 weeks), and a neat, compact kitchen.
Monica and Christian, who live across the hall, are wonderful hosts who are always willing to help at any time, but never intrude.
It did not affect us, as we were at the conference each day and not cooking in the flat, but you do need to go a little distance for a grocery store, although there is a limited one in the Schottentor subway shops.
But there are nice pastry shops for fresh croissants for breakfast, and it was lovely to just enjoy our leisure time in such a tranquil spot.
I know Monica and Christian are going to have another apartment closer to the centre, which will be available soon, but for 2 people, and with the superb public transport system available, living slightly out of the centre in a smaller, quiet apartment is very pleasant. Read more
Thank you so much Muriel for this great review! There are 4 big grocery stores at a distance of 4 to 5 minutes walk (about 300m), apart from two small ones which are closer. Granted they can seem far if one is carrying heavy bags, and for this reason we have added a shopping trolley to the standard equipment of our apartments. This is thanks to your input Muriel! And by the way, our new exclusive central spacious apartment is already available; check on this website!

Safe quiet and elegant neighborhood. Beautiful flat convenient to restaurants, grocery, sites. Near metro stop and street cars. Beds comfortable and washer/dryer a huge benefit. Owners available, pleasant, helpful, and friendly. Kids loved the Dvds - would be nice to have a few more TV stations, but since we didn't come to Vienna to watch TV this was not a big deal. Flat was cool and pleasant in spite of warm June temperatures. Would recommend highly!

I enjoyed my stay at votivflat. The flat was spacious, warm and comfortable with a well equipped kitchen. It was in a great location and within a grand but regular apartment block. I was able to access a local supermarket and shops. The renting family were helpful (even walked me to the supermarket) but also left me to my own devices. Read more
When I asked the guest why she didn't give us full credits this is what she replied: "Hi Christian, I really had a lovely time in the flat. Even the instructions for the washing machine were on the ball. I am just one of those people who is a little reserved and rarely gives full points. Just ask my students!!!!. (...) I found the flat very comfortable and affordable, and your mother was very kind (...).
Grace " Thank you for everything Grace and we hope to see you again soon!

Our stay in Vienna (which was already one of our favourite places) was made all the more wonderful by renting this flat. Christian and Monica are incredibly lovely and ready to help you out, or ready to have a bit of a chat about anything and everything. The location is perfect for those who don't want the hustle & bustle, but would still like to be fairly central - you can walk to Stephansplatz in under 20 min, or the public transport is just around the corner. The flat itself is gorgeous and feels very "old Vienna", with enough space for 3 people to live comfortably without getting in the way, and as it is on the lower level of the building, would be suitable for older travelers or small families with young kids. We're definitely going to try and book this one again!
excellent location, very comfortable, most helpful owner

We stayed just before Christmas and enjoyed the sights thanks to a central location. Rathaus and excellant Christmas markets (espcially for kids) was 8 minute walk.
A supermarkt located around corner, cafe below and on corners 50m away. Subway also 100m away so very conveniant. Walk/stroll into town center was about 15-20 minutes at most past shops etc. It is just on edge of the Ring , so everything is most accessible.
The owners were very helpful and also a bonus was the very extensive tourist information which was supplied in the apartment on anything you could possibly want to see.
There is lift access to the apartment on first floor and it is very quiet as it face inner courtyard/roof of building. If you are partymakers who like to make lots of noise at home this is probably not the place for you though!
The apartment was warm enough for us and we were there in middle of the coldest Vienna winter. Lots of big fluffy towels( not like those small ones you tend to get in many apartment). Bathroom was huge with bath and sep shower.
Lots of Dvd's and kids Dvd's supplied as well as books etc. Not that we used them as we were out most days and evenings. We cooked a few nights and everything there , including coffee filter machine, microwave, 2 burner stove but no oven.
We had a great time !

We stayed at the flat for two weeks. Everything was perfect - even more than we had hoped for. The location is perfect. The hosts delightful with the right amount of contact and information but never, ever obtrusive. The flat is well furnished. There was nothing we lacked for comfort or that we needed to feel right at home. We cooked most of our meals there. The washer and dryer is definitely a bonus. It is quiet and in a wonderful neighborhood for exploring. A short walk to the city center. A two block walk to the train station. A week's ticket will get you anywhere in Vienna. We will definitely plan to return. Vienna is our favorite city in Europe. Now we have a favorite place to stay when we are visiting.

Myself, my mum and 2 sisters stayed here in november. The weather was very cold but the apartment was lovely and warm, very cosy. It is located in a terrific location especially for xmas markets and also for many of the sights. The apartment was big enough for the four of us and had everything we needed. The owners are lovely and very helpful. It is only 10 min walk from the main shopping streets, 2min walk from the metro and trams. I would recomend this apartment to anyone.
Great hosts, beds, location, space, bathroom - had it all!

We were 2 couples and stayed 5 days. Christian and Monica were great - we saw at least one of them every day. We wondered from the picture how the twin beds would be - they were extra long and very comfortable and there were folding screens that could be extended around them for privacy, as people from the bedroom had to pass through our room (the living room) to reach the bathroom. The main room was large and we had no problem getting
a connection to the internet. The bathroom was huge with toilet, tub, shower, 2 sinks and a washer/dryer. There was a kitchen - very adequate - that we didn't use except to play cards at the table. Breakfast wasn't included, but we enjoyed our breakfsts at aida's Bakery on the corner. We were very close to transportation but some places were close enough to walk to (even though I have a cane.)

"We spent several days at Christian and Monica's rental apartment in September 2010. It is across the street from St. Stephen's Cathedral, convenient to subway and tram lines. The apartment was the best of a dozen we occupied during three weeks in Hungary, Austria, and Germany. The bathroom was the most luxurious and best equipped, including a clothes washer/dryer that we sorely needed. And the price was right! Give it a try. They are informative, charming, and attentive hosts."
Thank you Tom for this brilliant review! The church across the street is the famous Votivkirche. St Stephens is an 8-minute walk. Hope to see you all again soon!

The flat was great, - generous sized rooms. Location was wonderful, with trams close by, however we mainly just walked around to get the feel of Vienna. Christian and Monica were very friendly and helpful, organising a taxi to the airport, advising where the nearest open supermarket was on a Sunday (train station) - and even doing our washing for a small charge - as there don't appear to be any laundromats in Vienna. We loved it ! Read more
Thnk you for the nice words Lisa. By the way, there is a washer-drier in the flat since August...We hope to see you again soon!

We stayed as a family of 6 (4 small children). The flat was very clean and recently renovated, and had everything one needs for a short self-catering holiday: functional kitchen, comfy beds, huge bathroom (with washer-dryer-very useful), big TV with lots of Dvds and a very central location. We could walk to the centre in 20 mins (age 4 year old walking rate, probably faster with older kids), 5 mins from the trams (kids travel free so cheap sightseeing!) and 1 minute from the pink coffee+cake+ice-cream cafe on the corner, where we went on a daily basis! The owners are very child friendly (and adult friendly!) and were helpful with directions, places to go and even organizing our taxi-for-6 back to the airport.
A perfect apartment in a perfect location. We would definitely go back here.

Christian the host is very welcoming providing all you could want in this excellent Vienna Vacation apartment. From the location of the apartment itself to all the amenities offered our stay in this apartment was terrific. It is located near the U, shops, restaurants, all the sites you want to see while in Vienna. The apartment is very large and extremely comfortable. The master bedroom has a large very comfortable bed, the main room has two twins (very comfortable) located in a spacious rear alcove and there is also a large sleeper sofa which we only used for seating (not sleeping) while we watched television and the many movies provided with the apartment. The bathroom is enormous including two sinks, a large tub and a shower. Plently of linens for bedding, bathroom and kitchen. The kitchen is very new and fully equipped. A cell phone comes with the apartment for use for local calls as well as internet. The apartment was very quiet and cool and this was during 90s+ heat wave. Vienna is a tremendous city and full of so much to do ...it was lovely coming back to a cool, quiet comfortable apartment after seeing the city. Christian could not be more accomodating. You won't be disappointed.

We spent a week in this flat with three small children. There was plenty of space in the flat and it is situated in easy walking distance of the old centre. There are also plenty of parks, playgrounds, cafès, restaurants, tram and underground nearby. Very convenient. Very friendly hosts who were happy to help with information and suggestions. We hope to go back one day.

Excellent and friendly pre-arrival communication, including booking and pick-up at airport. Useful that owners lived beside the flat, however were not intrusive - lovely family. Lovely flat, spacious, clean, well laid-out and well appointed -great idea to have a local mobile phone for use! Excellent location - safe, close to city centre, cafe at ground level and 2 more at the corner!. Walking distance to some of the sights of Vienna, including the Freud museum
Accessible for someone with mobilty challenges (only 1 step at ground floor level and then a lift). We had a lovely time and would return
