We are strategically located in the center...not far from anywhere yet close to the favorite beaches of Vieques located in the wild life refuge...away from rooster colonies and noisy bars or big town parties...we have an acre of land very well groomed with lots of private spaces, many trees and beautiful nature...convenience store walking distance from the property, plenty of parking and lots oh hammocks...the apts are better than "budget" and tastefully decorated and equipped....

Centrally located between Isabel and Esperanza, Birds Nest is the perfect getaway. It's secure and safe, has all the amenities you'll need from staying in for a gourmet dinner on the patio to beach gear and fun toys. We ended each night in the hot tub, gazing at the stars! Waldo's paella is to die for! Birds Nest has the "homey" feeling that we all want in a vacation house. Waldo and his wife were welcoming, provided a great orientation, and were always available to answer questions throughout our week. We made friends with the couple staying in the 2nd house on the compound and it only added to our awesome experience! I will definitely be returning to Vieques, and will never stay anywhere else! Book early, this place fills up. It's one of a kind and one for the memory books!

Our stay at Bird Nest Studios was more amazing than we could have imagined!!
Waldo and Ileana were so incredibly hospitable...so kind...and so very knowledgeable about the island and where to go..what to see! They had so many references of information at hand to go through...
Their place was spectacular...great views...great location almost in the middle of the island so easily accessible to beaches and both towns..
Waldo surprised us with fresh coconuts one morning from their garden!
They have everything there that you can think you may want...the full kitchen was awesome...beach chairs, coolers...you name it!
It was such a wonderful experience!!! Would go back there in a heartbeat and have already recommended it to many other people!! book in advance though...seems like they book up quick!! quite the place to stay so I can see why it goes fast!!!

This rental was definitely an amazing find. Waldo was very accomasatimg and helpful. The space is large roomy exquisite with all the necessities provided, an amazing view and an added bonus, a relaxing hot tub. If you are looking for an affordable stay in a beautiful environment where on cam unwind and enjoy the beauty of the island, definitely stay at the Birdsnest!

I've been awhile writing this review because i just can't put into words the experience but i'll try like this. If you want to get away from everything and spend some time really enjoying your vacation this is the place to go. want to go to an island with gorgeous beaches, super friendly very helpful very personable locals, excellant food, cool wildlife, go stay with waldo and his wife at birdsnest studios. You,ll be staying with a intelligent, witty, hilarious gentleman whos yard and veiw from that yard are mesmerizing, and hes a good cook. You'll experience a pretty cool rustic little place and culture if you leave life behind and relax for a spell. I can't wait to get back to vieques and birdsnest ,my plans are already being made. make yours and just go.

we loved staying at birdnest studios. The apt. terrace and hottub were awesome, the hosts are friendly and helpful but not intrusive. The location near the beaches is perfect. We will dream of coming back!

The Bird Nest Studios are a gem! A lovely, tropical oasis with all the amenities you could think of. The host, Waldo, goes above & beyond
to ensure you have an enjoyable visit. He even has a notebook filled with menus of local restaurants, the best beaches to visit, maps, etc. It was very informative & helped me make the most of my visit. After exploring the island (everything is close by) you can come 'home' to your studio that has hammocks, a hot tub & a lush tropical garden to help you relax & unwind even further. My husband and I stayed at in the Pitirre studio for a week during our vacation in Vieques and I can't recommend this enough to others. The studio is very comfortable, breezy, and completely equipped with anything you could possibly need during your stay, from a grill for beachside Bbqs to beach chairs, coolers, and a coffee maker. We enjoyed lazy mornings on the porch with a cup of coffee and lazy evenings in the hammocks on the upstairs patio with a rum and coke, topped off with a fresh lime from Waldo's garden. The surroundings are completely peaceful and the location is very central to all the beaches as well as the two towns when you want to have dinner or lunch or even go grocery shopping. One of the highlights of our trip was having the Paella dinner that Waldo cooked up at Belly Buttons Restaurant. I had to go back for seconds! Waldo was also a wealth of information about the history of Vieques, current events, and of course the places to go for sightseeing and eating. Staying at BirdsNestStudios was really the highlight of out time in Viequest

Birdnest came recommended to us by friends who lives in San Juan. It is on hilltop surrounded with trees and colorful tropical landscaping. I enjoyed the privacy, and tranquility. The hot tub is a treat. The onsite glass art studio is great to visit. The owners extends wonderful hospitality. Great and memorable stay at Birdnestudios.

Highly recommended... My wife and I stayed at El Pitirre just a couple weeks ago. Waldo and Ileana are wonderful. They are helpful and always available, but stay out of your way. It's like a private cottage, all to yourself. The place is clean and has everything you need. Location is great, just outside Isabel Segunda, close to a well stocked convenience store. Nothing but Coqui frogs at night. This is not a hotel, so no maid service, etc. But, if you want to be pampered then Vieques is probably not the best choice for you (although everything can probably be arranged, we did not bother to check). Rent a Jeep and explore the island. Don't miss out Waldo's paella at Belly Buttons on Wednesday. Check out Ileana's glass studio (she makes glass sound really interesting). The only small issue is the driveway. It's steep and narrow. You have to be careful when leaving the gate so you don't pull out in front of another car (luckily traffic is sparse). None of this in any way would make me reconsider renting from Waldo. Just treat it as part of the adventure...

José/Waldo is a wonderful host, very charming, funny and always helpful. We stayed with him in an appartment and really enjoyed the beautiftul garden, the hammocks, the view and his hospitality. We were so busy visiting all the beautiful beaches though that we never had time to try out the hot tub!

Due to an unexpected conflict with another vacation rental, we had to find a substitute place to stay for a couple nights until our other rental place was ready, and ended up wishing we'd chosen Waldo and Ileana's Ptirre studio first to stay for the duration of our Vieques trip! Perfect studio size, everything you need. The shower water could be a little warmer, but the less water, the warmer it is--it just took some adjusting. Comfortable, lush--it really felt like a vacation to stay in a place that was both comfortable and interesting enough to hang out and have breakfast, or come back and take a break from the beaches.
The best part: the songs at night of the coqui frogs and insects gradually turning over to the songs of the birds in the early morning. Magical. Multiple ceiling fans meant we never needed to turn on the a/C.

Birnestudio es a very cozy apartment that fits over 6 people. It I equipped with everything you might possibly need (pots, towels, sheets, chairs for the beach, coolers, etc), has a terrace with a beautiful mountain view. The owners are very welcoming and helpful. They gave us tips on which are the best beaches and restaurants to visit and explained how to get there. Definitely worthwhile.

Just perfect for the two of us...private,quiet and safe with sunny windows,comfortable bed. We lived on the porch when we were not out enjoying the beaches which are close by. Nice kitchen and bathroom...great ceiling fans ! Washer/dryer is a bonus !
Waldo and Ileana are very special people and we look forward to seeing them again next year. -

Although this was a short stay, (we have stayed up to two weeks at Bird's Nest), This time we added a dinner for family and friends on the new deck. The food was terrific.
We have stayed in some pretty fancy places in Vieques, but when we are just the two of us we always stay here. Our hosts are wonderful helpful people, the apartment is comfortable, the view is killer, and it is centrally located. We like the intimacy, privacy, and we feel like family when we stay here.

Without a doubt, this was the best all around place I've ever stayed at. We were welcomed by Waldo and given a tour of the "Pitirre" and the surrounding lush, tropical gardens. In the apt., Waldo has compiled a notebook filled with info. about the island (places to eat, things to do, etc.) and also tells you about all the amenities that are available to the guests. Waldo is a fabulous & generous host that knows how to make guests feel comfortable, he has thought of everything possible to make your stay pleasurable. I will definitely recommend Bird Nest Studios to and would love to come back and stay again.

We already miss the nightly sounds of the coqui frogs singing us to sleep! While sorting some seaglass on the patio at Le Pitirre, your resident frog dropped down from inside the umbrella to help me! Thought that you would enjoy these photos!We'll be back for our 4th visit in 2012!

My family loves traveling to Vieques and landing in "The Birds Nest" studio.It is a peaceful,well kept haven.Waldo and his artist wife Ileana are the most kind,helpful and worldly people who offer this "nest" with a labor of love.They truly love their island home and want all people to experience the tranquility and deep beauty of Vieques- a very special jewel off the mainland. My husband and 2 children love ,love this nest!We are planning on returning asap in February 2012!

The Bird's Nest was a perfect option for our family of four. Their are two one-bedroom appartments an dwe stayed in the upper, larger unit. We were comfortable, the apartment was well appointed, and the location was convenient. Best of all,Waldo and Ileana were gracious and helpful. Nice place, nice people, highly recommended.

This is the second time we have stayed at the Bird's nest. It is a comfortable place for a couple or small family (depending on the apartment), has great views of the hills and the Caribbean, and it is strategically located near beaches, restaurants, and other points of interest. The apartment is clean and comfortable and Waldo and Ileana are wonderful hosts. Both of them know so much about Vieques and are willing to share. I would recommend the Bird's Nest to anyone looking for a comfortable, quiet place on our favorite island.

We would recommend this place to anyone! Waldo and Ilyana were welcomming and very helpful.Their cottage became our 'home away from home'.The whole experience of Vieques was a delightful surprise and I have recommended to to many people! The apartment was cherry and clean. We were able to cook meals in the kitchen and the location was great for getting to all of the beaches. We would stay again and hope to bring our kids next time.
