Description from the owner

A Beachfront Bungalow is located on the sandy Santa Maria beach, 1 mile east of Isabella II, Vieques Island. Our three bedroom, two bath home is tastefully furnished in a relaxed comfortable island style, and has a private pool for guests. Just a short stroll west on the beach will lead to some of the best snorkeling on the island, along a living coral reef. Trade wind ocean breezes keep the cottage comfortable all year long, and each bedroom is air conditioned for sleeping comfort. From the porch or the beach, the islands of Puerto Rico and Culebra look as if one could swim out to them. On clear days St. Thomas and St. Croix are visible...Read more

      quiet cottage on the beach

Left on 05/20/2013 for a stay in May 2013

Pick up at the airport and an informative tour of the shops and restaurants got us off to a great start on Vieques. The house is off the beaten path and a bit scary on first sight because of the abandoned house next door. Once we pulled into the parking area and walked around to the front it was, beachy and comfortable. The house was right on the atlantic and we watched sunset right in front on the beach . It is a 15 minute ride to all the fabulous caribbean beaches across the island. That was easy on 997. The house has everything you could need for the beach, rafts, coolers, lounges toys etc.. We really didnt use the pool but it was pretty. If you are expecting a fancy house, this is not for you. It was ikea fabulous and shabby chic. The house had everything we needed ,blender, coffee maker, washer and dryer, and all the fixings for the beach. We felt very comfortable and at home.

      Paradise

Left on 11/20/2012 for a stay in November 2012

For the first time in 23 years we returned to the same vacation spot for a second stay. The second stay was even better. The new patio was a wonderful spot to sit and watch the horse go down the beach, watch the pelicans, and the ocean. The house is clean and equiped with everything you need for your stay. Plenty of bath and beach towels along with beach chairs. Town is close enough to walk but renting a jeep is a must for visiting the other beaches (the beach at the house is great) you don't want to miss Black Beach or going to the Bio Bay we suggest the Vieques adventure Company. The clear kayaks make it even more awesome. Chef Waldo is excellent and the patio is a great place for dinner. This will not be our last stay on this wonderful Island and bungalow.

      Perfection

Left on 05/15/2012 for a stay in May 2012

This was our second visit to Vieques, but our first time in this house. We will never stay anywhere else. This house is absolutely amazing! It's roomy and cozy, and it's literally right on the beach. I loved going to sleep and then waking up to the sounds of the ocean (and dogs barking) ?. For me, it's perfection. There were four adults for this trip, and we all loved it. We loved the spacious backyard (where we ate fresh coconut from the trees in the backyard), the pool, the various amenities, everything! For the price, this place cannot be beat.

As far as the island, well I can hardly begin to describe it. It's paradise. But if you're looking for resort style living, Vieques is not the place. It's raw and non-commercial, but that's what we love about it. The beaches are beautiful and nearly empty, the snorkeling is awesome, the food is great, and the island vibe is strong. The roads need some work, but driving on them was fun and adventurous. Make sure you rent a Jeep or something. Some of the roads to the beaches are, uh, challenging. Overall, it's a place you just have to discover and explore on your own.

This is your backyard This is Blue Beach

      Very pleasant

Left on 02/19/2012 for a stay in February 2012

We enjoyed our stay but the house is very close to the neighbors with barking dogs. The owners know this is an issue and are trying to fix it. There is also a streetlight right outside the windows of the two bedrooms with the big beds. We stayed in the room with the twin beds which had loud surf sounds to drown out horses neighing, dogs barking, roosters crowing and husband snoring.

Neighboring house on one side was abandoned because of hurricane damage . House on other side is a large rental but well screened . Houses behind looked over the pool.

When called the manager fix a bathroom leak immediately.

Easy mile walk to buy groceries but you will want a car as the good swimming and snorkeling beaches are on the other side of the island, at least this time of year.
But we had 3 days of calm weather when we could enjoy the water in front of the house. Beautiful snorkeling there.

Bugs were not a problem even though some screens need fixing.

      Fantastic place to stay

Left on 11/04/2011 for a stay in October 2011

We had a wonderful time with friends at the house. We were able to cook in the kitchen because it was so well stocked. It was also close enough to town to walk if we wanted to do that. The place was clean and had all of the amenities that a person could need. A beach was right there. We walked the beach and held hands. It was beautiful, romantic, wonderful, and relaxing. I can't say enough good things about this beach bungalow.

      A wonderful experience

Left on 11/01/2011 for a stay in October 2011

Aurelio the caretaker was great. He picked us up at the airport and pointed out all the places we would need to go while there. The house was in perfect condition. It far exceeded our expectation. There were plenty of bath and beach towels for our use. Beach chairs were available. The kitchen was stocked with enough cook ware so if you wanted to stay in and cook you could. The outside shower made it easy not to track beach sand into the house. The pool was clean and a change from the beach. We hope to return next year.

      Vieques Family Vacation

Left on 10/30/2011 for a stay in October 2011

We had a wonderful stay in Vieques. The beaches are fabulous. The island has a very unspoiled atmosphere. After dealing with stresses of work, wedding planning, and just the everyday hustle and bustle of our lives, this place was ideal for us to relax. The house was perfect for our family, 4 adults and 1 child. There was plenty to do to keep my grandchild busy, I was afraid without any other children around he may be bored. Not a chance! He loved catching hermit crabs and lizards. There was a dog next door that became his companion when we were at the house, even sitting with him when he fished behind the house. Snorkeling opened up a whole new world for him too, we all enjoyed it.
After spending the day at the beaches, we would spend time at the pool and grill out for dinner. After dark we would marvel at the starry sky, something we dont get to enjoy at home in the city. Everything was perfect.
The house is comfortable and clean, the property manager is very helpful. We would not hesitate to stay here again.

      Most Relaxing Vacation Ever

Left on 06/14/2011 for a stay in May 2011

The vacation was everything and more than we hoped it would be. The island and beaches are absolutely beautiful, and the people we met were great! The bungalow was outstanding. We love the location of it, and the views from the patio are unforgettable. Grilling outside around dusk was just awesome! If I were to have any criticism on the bungalow (and this is a small thing) it would be the bathrooms. Maybe an update would be nice. The shower head in the bathroom to the right needs to be replaced or cleaned. Other than that, the place was great! We loved the pool, and really enjoyed eating breakfast each morning on the porch looking out to sea. The house was very clean and in good order. All of the linens were clean and ready to go when we arrive. The pool was also very clean (if we weren't in the ocean, we were in the pool.) Thanks so much for the pina colada mix. We put it to good use!

The beaches on the island were the main attraction. We were on the beach everyday and loved it!

Aurelio is the man! I'm telling you, that guy is worth his weight in gold! He was there at the airport when we arrived, and was happy to answer any questions we had and was very good about explaining the area around the house to us. We got lost coming back to the house the first night. It was dark and the lack of street signs made it impossible to find the bungalow. We called him to guide us back and he was very patient with us. After unsuccessfully finding the bungalow still, Aurelio of nice enough to guide us to a landmark, come meet us and drive us back to the bungalow. I'm sure he had better things to do on a Sunday evening :) He also got the dish tv fix while we were there, and was nice enough to get us some fresh fish to grill. I really can't say enough about him!

Our vacation was wonderful, and we will be returning. Thank you so much for letting us stay at your bungalow. It was a blast!

We could not have found a better spot to celebrate our anniversary. It was hassel free from the begining. The owners, Michael and Gail, were very helpful prior to our trip answering all questions. We have rented a number of homes over the years and never have we been met at the airport by the property manager, taken to the rental car company, and given a tour of the town as we were here. It made everthing so easy. The home itself was ideal--located just steps from the beach. We opened the windows and let the sea breezes come thru, along with the sounds of the sea. The home had everthing we needed. Having just come from a "timeshare" on Puerto Rico, it was a p;easant suprise to see how well a kichen can be stocked. The home was nicely decorated with plenty of everything. We loved sitting on the porch at the high top table having meals while watching the waves. It was so romantic to walk along the beach looking for sea glass and enjoying the ocean ambience. The pool was also great to come back to after a day exploring the many secluded beaches on Vieques. Although, this home would be great for a family trip, it also can't be beat as as a romantic destination.

      Best vacation ever!

Left on 12/01/2010 for a stay in October 2010

I'm reluctant to spread the word about how amazing Vieques is solely because I don't want the rest of the world to find out about it. It's paradise. Gail and Gordon were incredibly helpful. The house had everything you could possibly need. The beds were comfortable and everything was very clean. The kitchen was well stocked, which made grilling our freshly caught pescado less of an adventure.

      Perfect Family Bungalow

Left on 11/22/2010 for a stay in November 2010

My husband and I, my parents, and our almost 2 year old daughter stayed here for a week in November of 2010 and it was the perfect set up for us. Our little girl stayed in the room with the twin beds, which conveniently is at the back of the house so we could put her down to sleep and not have to worry about being too noisy. We were in town for a wedding and it was an easy 20 minute drive to Esperanza, where most of the wedding activities and the calmer beaches were. When we weren't out and about (or when my husband and I were at the wedding, or when my dad and husband were on dive trips, and someone stayed back with the baby) we enjoyed relaxing at the house. The grounds are just lovely, and we all enjoyed playing in the pool, watching the waves (the beach was a little rough for the baby), beach combing, admiring the horses who came to graze, etc. The house was well equipped and we ate several meals there, packed picnics to take to the beach (thanks for providing a cooler and beach chairs!), and blended up some pina coladas in the evenings. It was a very convenient and beautiful place to stay.

      Amazing Trip!

Left on 08/14/2010 for a stay in February 2010

I found this place online around this time last year and couldn't have been happier! This was my first trip to Vieques and had not even heard of this gem of an island before researching. I had booked this trip to participate in a wedding abroad so there were quite a few people from all over the country coming to meet for this event. I can honestly say that from from all the other accommidations I saw from other people in the party, ours was by far the best! Being right on a secluded beach was perfect. The yard area is very well maintained and also quite spacious. There were many naps taken in the hammock which was very relaxing. We spent a majority of time out in the yard space and beach but that's not to say anything bad about the interior. The bed, linnens, and furnishings were all very clean and comfortable. The house is fully stocked with everything you need to cook dinner or even to go enjoy the beach right out front with boogie boards and chairs. I highly reccomend this property to anyone who would listen and can't wait to book a future trip!

      Ideal house, Ideal location

Left on 08/01/2010 for a stay in July 2010

Loved it!! All the quatlities we look for when we vacation on the beach. It was right on the beach. The sound of the surf to put me to sleep and wake me up. The landscaping around the house was naturally beautiful and not oversculpted. We loved having our great yard and hammock. The pool was a very welcome place to cool off after returning from one beautiful beach after another. We felt we had a lot of privacy. Although there are rocks and urchins in the beach directly behind the house, all you have to do is wade out a little bit for some awesome snorkeling. We were able to get my 5 and 12 year old out there w/no problem. You could also walk down the beach to a good swimming area. The house was ideal. Nice large patio, and roomy, super comfy bedrooms. I loved the XM radio on the TV; non-stop reggae and Buffet for the whole week!! Perfect kitchen and well equipped. Bathrooms were very roomy and laundry was practically brand new. There were so many beach towels and house towels, and from experience, that alone made the trip so much more pleasant.
The property manager, Aurelio, was wonderful!! Extremely friendly and helpful. He knew the island well and had great recommendations of places to go and things to do. On the first day, he did a wonderful job of shuttling us around for car rentals, kayaks and getting us to the house.
Michael and Gail made themselves so available both leading up to the trip and while we were there. They initiated contact to see how things were and were honestly interested in our opinions! Trust me, that's a rarity!! They really do care about their property and the people who visit. Thanks you!!
The bungalow fits perfectly into the landscape. It definitely feels like it belongs in Vieques, making you feel the same way. I love the local feel of the surrounding area. We will be back to this little house in Vieques, just not sure if it will be this winter or next spring...

      Relaxing island with fantastic beaches

Left on 07/31/2010 for a stay in March 2010

Vieques is a relaxed, quiet island with uncrowded beaches and great snorkeling. The house has a very nice yard fronting the beach, which is nice for walking (not the best swimming beach though), and a beautiful pool area which is great for cooling off after a hot day at the beach. The a/c in each of the bedrooms and very comfortable beds also make it a very comfortable place to stay. A car is needed to get around the island, although distance to the main town is short and can be walked or biked. Hills separating the North from the South side of the island mean that biking to the South side beaches is for the adventurous. Be sure and take a sail or other boat trip to get out to some of the beautiful, uncrowded local reefs.

Left on 07/18/2010 for a stay in April 2010

This is a great house to stay in, especially if traveling with kids. The third bedroom (with two twin beds) is very private and located away from the main part of the house. The private pool, is great for the afternoons when you've had enough sun, but still want to play in the water. Overall the house was well stocked, and the washer/dryer is a huge bonus. With beach amenities, like chairs, cooler and toys, we had to bring very little with us. It's located in a "local" neighborhood, just outside Isabella. Close to restaurants, stores, etc. but away from town and private. We had a great orientation when we arrived, and the managers were always available if we had problems or questions. A overall excellent place to stay!
