The Villa was obviously well thought out as daily we were delighted by conveniences anticipating what visitors to Vieques would need. Space to store snorkeling gear, a convenient patio space, a kitchen equipped for cooking (although with the easy walk to great restaurants, why cook at all!). We daily took advantage of the pool. The twin master suites make this property ideal for two couples. The property became a destination in which to enjoy the afternoon after a morning of enjoying beaches.

Malecon Villa was lovely. It was designed as a rental and has two bedrooms of equal size and decor making it very comfortable for two couples travelling together. We have previously stayed in a couple of island hotels. Malecon Villa was slightly more expensive but also significantly nicer, cleaner, more spacious, and better equipped. The decor is beautiful and includes some lovely original art by local artists. The owners are very friendly and accessible. There is satelite TV and and a DVD player so we could watch movies and keep up with Downton abbey. We also enjoyed the large walled backyard and the pool. The only downside is that Esperanza is a little noisy (music, roosters, dogs) but we figured out that if we slept with the aC on that took care of the problem.

Perfect spot for two couples. We loved being able to walk to the Malecon and its bars and restaurants. Pool is divine for day or night. Bedrooms both masters with comfortable bed and beautiful bathrooms. Extra bathroom of living area and by pool with outdoor shower.
Food was great from breakfast at Belly Buttons to bar food at Duffy's and Bananas to great food at Bili and Trade Winds to best in Caribbean at El Quinepo.
Great beaches with variety. We rented a Jeep Liberty from Maritzas which worked perfectly to navigate the challenging roads to Chivas (Blue), Red, Arenas (Green), and Navio. Sun Bay with bits palm trees for shade and ease to reach was our choice in the end for chilling all day. Grab a good bite from Sol Food truck for lunch. Snorkeling was best at arenas, bugs arrive there early afternnon. Caves along Navios side were cool.
We did Bio Bay kayak with abe's and loved it; their vans are a trip though.
We travel to the Caribbean every Thanksgiving and this was one of our favorites. Did Thanksgiving dinner at Trade Winds and it was fabulous. Their Paella Night was excellent as well. Happy hour at Trade Winds with Medalla for $1.50 and sunset!
Only problem with Vieques is very little grocery store selection with few fresh vegetables. There is a farmers market Tuesdays, but Morales Supermecado is not so super.
We flew from Isla Grande on Vieques air Link, took taxi fro Munoz International in San Juan. Flights went very smoothly. You do have to pay for weight over 30 pounds in luggage, including backpacks, etc. We will try the ferry next time.
There is a big difference between Esperanza - very traveler friendly, lots of ex-pats, and Isabel Segundo - very much a crowded little Puerto Rican town with narrow streets and confused traffic. We spent as little tme as possible there.
Noise from Malecon not an issue for us. Could hear it from pool at night, but not from air-conditioned bedrooms.
We hope to return soon! -

WisconsinThis is how you do Vieques! Villa Malecon sets the standard!

For our second trip to Vieques, we opted to try to find a villa or similar arrangement instead of a hotel. Good fortune and Google brought us to the site for Villa Malecon! Michele provided prompt answers to my inquiries with great information. Booking the property was a snap thanks to Michele.
It was nicer than we could've anticipated. It's just up the street from the Malecon - great location to see all that Esperanza has to offer. Very secure with a gated wall and secure doors and locks all around. Off street parking is very nice. The villa is nice. Really nice. Top notch construction, decoration - this is how to do a villa! Kitchen was very well appointed, they thought of pretty much everything. The pool was wonderful!!! Bigger than the pictures showed and so nice! Each of the master suites are very well furnished and love the big, double sinks and huge walk-in showers.
Have seen some reviews citing the noise - ok, it's in Esperanza, so Friday/Saturday nights can be a little loud. There are a lot of chickens and dogs around as well. Simple solution: close the windows and turn on the aC in either of the two master suites - problem solved! Was very quiet all other nights. Big plasma and dish were a nice touch!
We loved it!
Check in was a breeze, as was checkout.
Thanks, Michele and Claritza!!!Response from Michele & Claritza - 02/03/2012

Denver, ColoradoGreat place but be aware of the neighborhood.

Absolutely no reservations about the house - it is modern, clean, and very well equipped. The pool out back was a surprisingly welcome amenity. The owners were good to work with. Just be aware the house is located a short distance from the main street in town and the Friday and Saturday nights of our visit were pretty rowdy. On those nights you need to be prepared to either stay up late and join in or have good ear plugs. The neighborhood and town during the rest of our stay was very good.

Thank you for your review. We are located in the Town of Esperanza, which does afford you the convenience of being within walking distance of the island restaurants and bars. Yes, there is occasional weekend street noise. However, once you retreat to the bedrooms with the air conditioners on, you no longer hear the noise. We stay at the house when not rented, and we have no problem sleeping here.

Fabulous house - even nicer than the pictures! Very convenient location - walk to a neighborhood market one direction and to restaurants the other direction. We think this is an awesome find - great for two couples, but since they have three full baths you could add others willing to sleep on the couch. The kitchen was better equipped than my house!
