      Home away from home!

Left on 05/11/2013 for a stay in April 2013

This was our second stay at Casa Luna Llena and we consider it now our home away from home! They have everything you may need at the house for your beach trips, snorkel gear, noodles, floaty things, life vests, towels, beach mats, beach bag even pails, shovels and things the kids can play with in the sand.
The house also has anything you need in the kitchen to prepare your own meals on the days you'd like to eat in (except the food of course!). Gas grill on the patio along with nice tables, chairs, hammock. If you plan to spend anytime out on the patio, you need to light the citronella candles & turn on the fan cause dang, the mosquitoes are man eaters! They also have Off! if you'd like to use that.
Very roomy living area with many chairs for seating, awesome large ceiling fans and fans on the walls to keep the breeze moving. Air conditioning in the bedrooms which was fantastic because we went in late april early May and it was getting really hot and humid.
It's in a great location too, easy walk to the malecon, green store or the beach. We did have a car rental but, you could get around very easy without one. We love the backyard chickens! Yes, they begin early but, we didn't mind one bit!
The house is nice and warm, inviting and cozy. We really love it and hope to be back again!

      Perfect family base on Vieques

Left on 03/03/2013 for a stay in February 2013

The house was even nicer than we imagined based on the photos. We had been to Vieques before so we knew the pros and cons of being in Esperanza vs. someplace else on the island, but that's something to consider if you don't know the island. The house itself was very comfortable and worked perfectly for a family with young kids. It would also be great for two families, two or three couples, or a bunch of single people. It's an easy walk to the Green Store, which has groceries, and to the restaurants and bars of Esperanza. It's also walking distance to Sun Bay and conveniently located to drive to the beaches in the nature reserve. The owner and caretaker were responsive and attentive. The only note of caution I would give is that there are roosters all around that make noise starting at 5:00, 4:00, even 3:00 a.m. This didn't bother us too much because we go to Vieques to be in a place that has real life going on, rather than in a resort, but if I had known I would have brought ear plugs. The same may be true of other houses on the island but it's something to consider if you'll be bothered by roosters crowing in the middle of the night.

      Even better than I expected

Left on 02/21/2013 for a stay in January 2013

The place was spotless and huge with a well-setup kitchen stocked with all the tools one would need for cooking real meals. It was also conveniently located a few blocks from a small store (the "green store"), which is also where many of the bio-bay tours do pick ups/drop-offs.

      Paradise!!

Left on 10/08/2012 for a stay in April 2012

Casa Luna Llena was by far the best vacation rental in which we have had the pleasure to stay. The home is quaint, warm, charming, inviting, beautifully decorated, and can fit many people comfortably. We were two families, with two kids each (4 adults and 4 children), so we rented three bedrooms. The bedrooms were spacious and beds/pillows were comfy. There were fans everywhere, so it was always nice and breezy in the house. At night, we turned the a/C on in the rooms. The kids slept in the bedroom with the TV. : )

It was great to sit in the glider/rocking chair, put my feet up, and relax while admiring the beautiful artwork and crafts in the home. The house was decorated so nicely! The yard was plentiful, very large for kids to play out back. The bathrooms were large and updated, too.

The house was fully stocked. You can tell that the owners have take everything into consideration to make sure that vacationers' needs were taken care of. Whatever you can think of that you will need for an amazing beach vacation, it is there. Washer, dryer, dishwasher, hammocks, beach chairs, beach umbrellas, beach towels, beach toys for kids, noodles/floaties, games, coolers, rice cooker, kitchen utencils, pots and pans, plenty of towels, magazines, books, playing cards, TV with cable/satellite, different types of mosquito repellents (coils, sprays, citronella candles), a clothes line in the back yard to hang wet bathing suits/towels upon return from the beach, a little shower on the outside of the house to rinse off the sand, patio furniture, bicycles, portable radio/cd player for the beach, plenty of extra bedding/comforters/sheets, bose ipod dock inside the house, soccer and footballs, and Wifi, too! Just bring some bathing suits and sunblock, and you're all set!

The local grocery store had everything we needed. We thought it was going to be expensive, but it was very reasonable. My sister and I love to cook, so we made hearty breakfasts and dinners for our families every day. We even had delicious local lobster one night! It was very easy cleanup having the dishwasher. On our day trips to the beaches, we packed sandwiches, snacks, fruits, and drinks. By the way, the local beer, Medalla, is great!

We rented a car because we have small children, so we were able to visit many locations and beaches throughout the island. We loved the wild horses running throughout the island! Our favorite beach was Red Beach. I have never seen clearer water or a more beautiful, pristine beach. It was truly gorgeous. We also kayaked in the bioluminescent bay, which was spectacular! The touring company was local in Esperanza, from about a 2 minute drive from the house.

The roosters did not really bother us, just part of the charm. : ) Mosquitos weren't too bad, but we didn't spend alot of time outside at night.

This was a memorable and relaxing family vacation! We can't wait to return to this island paradise! We will not look to stay elsewhere, Casa Luna Llena was perfect.

Casa LunaLlena is a total gem!

Left on 04/04/2012 for a stay in March 2012

Five of us stayed at CasaLunaLlena, along with my husband, my sister, our parents and myself. The house is wonderful! It is fantastically stocked with anything one might need. Walking distance to some gorgeous beaches! It's clean and very well kept. It's close to a grocery store so it was easy to stock up and cook if one wanted. All the appliances in the house are brand new, there is a dishwasher, laundry machine and a drier.
Maria was there to greet us and she was nothing but lovely! The owner was also very gracious by letting us stay a few extra hours on the check out day so we could use some extra beach time. All in all an absolute gem in now our favorite part of PR!!!

      Homelike and lovely

Left on 03/30/2012 for a stay in March 2012

We just returned from our vacation stay at Casa Luna Llena. Just 3 of us, myself, my daughter and 3 year old son. From the moment we stepped into the door, it felt very homelike. Decor is fantastic, it's very spacious, open and airy. There are wonderful amenities, we especially took advantage of the cooler, chairs, umbrella and mats available for the beach hopping. It was also nice to have a gas grill and a picnic dinners on the patio. There were a large number of towels to use, which you need when your trying to see every beach and a washer and dryer so you can restock the clean towels. The house is walking distance to the Malecon and very convenient. My only complaint was it seemed the floor hadn't been washed - you had to wear shoes or your feet were black. Also there is wifi internet access but, it is not unlimited and with 2 of us, we reached the max pretty fast looking up island info. A little walk outside got me a 2G signal. Minor issues however, and we did not let this interfere with our wonderful Vieques vacation. We would definitely rent this property again.

      clean, comfortable, and convenient location...

Left on 03/26/2012 for a stay in February 2012

Stayed there over last Presidents Day weekend. We were a group of 10 and all unanimously agreed that we would recommend the house any given day.

The house is more than comfortable for families or groups. Again, we were 10 an found it to fit our needs. Rooms were spacious (we did the 3 room option), all with fully functional a/c. The two bathrooms were well kept and clean. And the house overall was very very well kept.

You can tell that the owners certainly pay attention to details. Every single remote control (ceiling fans, a/c's, etc.) were labeled and fully functional. The kitchen is fully equipped (dish washer included, fridge with ice maker as well). Pots, pans, silverware, you name, everything in good conditions. Towels, bed linens, mini cooler, gas and charcoal grills were available as well.

In terms of location it is in the middle of a relatively quite residential area. The trees and the relatively big backyard give you a sense of isolation even when in the middle of a residential area. The Esperanza village (restaurants, boardwalk, etc.) are a 10 min walk away and literally a less-than-2-minute drive. If headed to the beaches all you need to do is turn twice (driving) and you'll be on your way.

The surroundings seemed safe. You can easily fit 2 cars in the driveway (inside the fence.)

No significant drawbacks...not a big deal but mosquitoes at night can get somewhat annoying. It may be seasonal. Anyway, the owners do keep repellent readily available in the house.

Casa Luna Llena will definitely be a top choice for my next visit.

We're so glad we found this property. The house was perfect for our family of 6. It was spotless, well furnished, in a great neighborhood, and within walking distance to restaurants. The housekeeper met us at check-in and was very helpful. We enjoyed the peace and tranquility - with the exception of the roosters and chickens - LOL! It was actually very funny and my parents said it reminded them of when they lived in Cuba. We will definitely stay here again in the future!

Stayed with three friends. the house is in a perfect location. we didn't have a car the first day and had no problem walking to tienda verde, and then on to sunbay. easy to meander down to bars and back home too, no sober driver needed. house is quite clean and totally stocked. we made breakfast every morning (need a bigger coffee maker would be my only very minor complaint) -- and we stayed in and cooked dinner a few nights...great kitchen equipment. the rooster situation is insane but it is the same all over the island...bring ear plugs if you're a light sleeper. maria the housekeeper was very friendly and helpful...we will def stay again.

Left on 04/14/2011 for a stay in March 2011

I just returned from a second visit to Vieques and a stay at Casa Luna Llena. The trip and the accommodations were perfect. I shared the house with three girlfriends and we were all impressed with the location, the accommodations, and the amenities.

The house is centrally located in Esperanza and only a short walk from the Malecon and Sun Bay. Last year, we stayed in Bravos de Boston (which was nice), but being able to walk to dinner or for a morning walk along the Malecon is a treat.

The house is beautifully decorated and spacious. It comes equipped with a wheeled cooler, hammocks, backpack beach chairs, grill, patio furniture, outdoor shower, washer/dryer and more! Newly renovated, it has all of the comforts of home. We could have easily moved in!

The roosters did wake us up a few times, but after a day we got used to them and started to laugh about it. If you’re a light sleeper – bring earplugs. This is a Caribbean Island and you’re on vacation – crowing roosters will be the most you have to worry about.

Nearby Sun Bay and Media Luna are within walking distance, but you should rent a Jeep if you plan to explore the Island’s other beaches (Playa Plata and Navio Beach are personal favorites). If you have time, do a snorkel tour and a horse back ride. Both were great ways to see new things on the island.

Lizette and Maria (the house manager) were great to work with and quick to answer all of our questions.

Thank you again for a lovely stay! I’m already planning my next trip.

      A real Gem!

Left on 03/04/2011 for a stay in February 2011

Our group of 3 couples just had the great pleasure of spending two wonderful weeks staying at Casa Luna Llena. We have been visiting Vieques for almost 20 years always staying in Esperanza. During this time nothing has come remotely close to the quality accommodations that this house provided us. Pictures nor words can do it justice. Looking from the street you would never guess the gem that lives within. Upon entering the front door we were all amazed at the expanse of the main living area, the size of each bedroom, the well thought out floor plan, the quality of recent construction and the wonderfully selected decor. Vieques communities are known for their tightly knit streets. Over the years we have become familiar with all its locations. Non-typical for this island Casa Luna Llena is situated within a very quiet up-scale neighborhood on a much less traveled non-congested street. A speeding car you will not find on its pavement. As described by the owner it is a short 5 minute walk to the waterside restaurants and gift shops. It's a mild 10 minute strole to Sun Bay and a brisk 40 minute hike to wave-adorned Navio. To further explore the treasures of Red, Secret, Blue, Orchid and Green Beach, to name a few, you will need transportation. As we have, once visited, you will find the Spanish Virgin Island of Vieques to be adictive. Couple this with a stay at Casa Luna Llena and a devoted follower of a path less trodden you will become.

Newly built island home with modern features and space to relax.

Left on 02/06/2011 for a stay in February 2011

If you are looking for a clean, modern, and spacious home to rent in Vieques, consider Casa Luna Llena. The owners have put a lot of thought and investment into a vacation home that offers plenty of bedrooms with large closets, a beautiful kitchen with modern appliances, and two good-sized bathrooms with tiled floors. There is plenty of space to relax, the best of which is the terrace off the living room. It was ideal for sharing drinks and meals, plus includes a Weber Q grill. The owners were good to work with and provided an onsite caretaker who greeted us and offered to assist us as needed. Casa Luna Llena is located a few blocks from the main thoroughfare in Esperanza in a quiet neighborhood, away from the activities in the tourist area, but close enough to walk to. Downside? Well, it took a while to get used to the roosters and chickens that roam the backyards of the adjoining properties (one spunky chicken made her into the house when we weren't looking but we had no trouble scooting her out the kitchen door), as well as cock-a-doodle-dooing in the early morning hours. But it was easy to block out the noise with the AC, and eventually just ignore them. All in all, it was a great stay and we would go back.

Good vacation rental, not too expensive

Left on 01/16/2011 for a stay in December 2010

Wow! This was a really great rental house for our christmas vacation. The caretakers were helpful and responsive.
The house was in a little neighborhood behind the Malecon in Esperanza. It was a very easy walk to the Malecon, Sun Bay, and a little grocery store. I really enjoyed walking around from the house in the evening, especially to the boat dock on the malecon to watch stingrays!
The house had nice outdoor areas, the front porch and the nice back porch with a table and bbq, which was good for eating dinner outside. Also, the outdoor shower was handy after coming back sandy from the beach.
The kitchen was small, but well stocked so we cooked almost all our meals at the house. The rice cooker really came in handy.
2 bathrooms, and 2 bedrooms with aC, which we didn't really use because the weather was not too hot so the fans were fine.
It was nice to have beach chairs, coolers... supplied at the house.
Chickens-- There was a lot of chickens in the neighborhood, so there were a lot of roosters crowing... at all times of day. Didn't really impact our sleep, just something to get used to. Oh, and they climbed over the fences to forage in our backyard occasionally. A very memorable experience was when we left some beach stuff on a chair outside, which apparently was a nice nesting area for a chicken, as we found an egg in the chair the next morning!!!
All in all, it was a nice vacation rental in a good location, clean and with no problems or anything broken. I thought it was a really good value, especially for all you got.

Very nice house, in a good location, on a wonderful island.

Left on 12/02/2010 for a stay in November 2010

My husband and I just finished our second trip to Vieques, and we stayed at Casa Luna Llena. Casa Luna Llena had everything we were looking for in a rental house. The house had great amenities like fans in every room (some with remote controls), a/c in the bedrooms, washer/dryer, wifi, ipod dock, satellite TV, blender (actually a magic bullet), beach chairs, cooler, flotation devices, and towels. The house was nicely decorated and had a very relaxing feel. The exposed wood ceiling in the living room was unique and very attractive. The master bedroom was nice with a king size bed, although the other two bedrooms were nothing special, but we didn't spend any time in them. There was a nice outside patio area with hammocks, which was great. We also liked being in Esperanza and being able to walk to the Malecon. The house is in pretty densely populated residential neighborhood, but we still felt like we had privacy. Given the size of the island, everything is pretty conveniently located, but this house is especially convenient to the beaches and lots of restaurants. The owners were very easy to deal with and very helpful. We felt at home in our home-away-from-home, and we absolutely loved visiting Vieques!

My only complaints are that there were a lot of bugs (mostly mosquitoes) and the bugs seemed to get into the house really easily, even though we were careful about keeping the doors closed. However, the owners did leave lots of bug spray and citronella products.

Also, the windows are all screens, with these slats you can open and close. I know this is a popular type of window on the island, but it doesn't provide any sound proofing, and the roosters certainly were loud, starting early in the morning (which I know is also common on the island).

I strongly recommend Casa Luna Llena for a fantastic stay. You will enjoy beautiful beaches, bioluminescent bay excursions, where you swim in sparkling waters and see millions of stars above, great friendly community, sightseeing galore, and much more. Casa Luna Llena house has been totally updated and is beautifully decorated. The hammocks are inviting. You can buy fresh seafood nearby--we had lobsters for dinner and lunch the next day! Lobster is cheaper than steak in Vieques...anyway, if you are looking for the perfect getaway location, this is it!

My high school friends and I took a weekend trip to my favorite place in Puerto Rico: Vieques...and staying here made it all even better! Casa Luna Llena is a beautiful renovated home conveniently located within a five minute walk from the Malecon, where you can find all kinds of restaurants, bars, and markets. Casa Luna Llena has all the conveniences you could need, with the serenitiy and comforts of a spacious, splendid home. The kitchen is fully equipped and has everthing a normal chef could want! The bedrooms and bathrooms were impeccably clean, and
the overall accomodations were elegant yet practical, so you could quickly feel right at home. Just in case you don't want to be carrying lots of stuff, Casa Luna Llena offers a full complement of beach chairs and fluffy towels for guests' use. The house decoration is beautiful, colorful and inviting, and you can appreciate Puerto Rican art while enjoying the Vieques' breeze, relaxing and swinging in your hammock.
I've been to Vieques many times, and Casa Luna Llena truly is a great place to stay. I will surely come back!!!
