All the prior reviews are dead on. This place is great for a family of five or two couples. Quiet and set 5 minutes from Esperanza. Views are to die for. Everything from 50 inch wide screens to high end sound system with Sirius and fast Net service made the house even more fun.

This is my second time staying at Banana Wind, about the fifteenth trip to Vieques. Needless to say, I know the Island pretty well and have had some wonderful stays in Inns but nothing compares to staying at this home. The owners have outfitted the special home with all the top of the line features and equipment that anyone could ask for. The location is very private and safe feeling due to the gated entrance and fenced property line. The house was also very clean and well managed by Colleen who is exceptional as well. I will definitely return in the future as often as possible!

Banana Wind is an absolutely beautiful house and property. We loved everything about it. With the cool breezes day and night we never had to think of using air-conditioning. The bedrooms and bathrooms were comfortable and the outdoor showers were fabulous. Hanging out on the raft in the pool was delightful. The kitchen is a chef's dream. The location of Banana Wind was ideal - about a 10 minute drive to the town of Esperanza and not much further to get to Vieques' beautiful beaches. At night the only sounds you hear are the coquille - very tranquil and serene.
This was our second visit to Vieques. Not sure when our next will be but without hesitation we will look to once again stay at Banana Wind. -

To start the architecture was Fabulous and one of the main reasons we wanted to stay. The service was great! The Owners were very friendly and helpful. The property was a amazing from the driveway to the pool, the BBQ the view was beautiful!!
Staying here made our trip relaxing and enjoyable! The location was close to the grocery stores, beaches and restaraunts. They had a nice basket of goodies upon our arrival and the House Mgr. picked us up from the airport & drove us to the car rental. Which was very nice. My teenager loved the house stereo system, my little one loved the concrete stairs & pool.
Remember to hydrate because you will get a workout from all the stairs. It was great to have access to a washing machine, dryer , cooler, chairs for the beach etc. Our least thing we liked about the house was the Hurricane that came to town. We were bummed we had to leave a day early.
We traveled with a 13 yr old and 1 1/2 yr. old. The little one we had to put up a few things like knives, books, etc. By the end of our stay my daughter learned to go up & down stairs the correct way... -

It is not a stretch to say that Banana Wind has been our best vacation rental experience. The home itself is gorgeous. Views are unmatched from virtually everywhere in the house. The roof was our personal favorite. The owners have thought of everything in terms of outfitting the house. Banana Wind is convenient to both the North and South Shore attractions and restaurants. We will certainly consider visiting Vieques and renting Banana Wind again in the future. Enjoy!

We had a great week stay at Banana Wind during late May 2011. Banana Wind is in a great location, halfway between Isabel II and Esperanza, which is great because both locations are necessary to visit during your stay. The house is very technically up to date (i.e. stereo is Sirius, iPod capable). All appliances are top of the line (i.e. Wolf ranges, subzero fridge). The house overall also is very modern. Ideal for two couples or a family w/ 2 kids, more than that may be cramped. Set up of the house generates cool breezes throughout the day and night, though aC is available if necessary. The house has every necessity that you would have at home, and then some. Additionally, the housekeeper was always available for questions/concerns which was nice. The house is about 15-20min from the beaches on the southeast of the island. 10min to Esperanza where several restaurants, bars are located. 10min to Isabel II where you can find gas stations, grocery stores, banks, ferry dock, etc.
The island is great. Highly recommend renting a Jeep to explore and tolerate the bad roads. If considering flying would look into flying from Isla Grande airport in San Juan or the Ceiba airport. San Juan international is expensive, and the ferry seems to be a cumbersome situation. Great restaurants abound on the island. Beaches are beautiful. The most amazing feature of Vieques is the bioluminescent bay (Mosquito Bay). A trip to the BioBay is an absolute must, you cannot go to Vieques without seeing it. Overall a great trip at a great house. Highly recommend Banana Wind!! -

TorontoWonderful week at Banana Wind!

From check in to check out, it was a breeze staying at Banana Wind.
There was ample room for our group - of 2 couples - and the house amenities helped make us feel right at home. The kitchen is very well equipped and is a dream come true for the gourmet cook with a Wolf stovetop, oven and bbq. We also loved having access to laundry - you can pack light for a stay at Banana Wind - and were able to clean off sandy clothing and beach towels with ease. It was also a huge bonus to have access to a cooler, beach chairs and towels.
This was our second visit to Vieques and we just loved the location of the house- a short drive to Esperanza and beaches, and up in the hills with a beautiful views. The incredible architecture is a bonus and we loved the outdoor showers, and patios at each level at the house! The rooftop patio is perfect for stargazing during those dark Vieques nights. The cool concrete surfaces and breezy windows were perfectly designed to bring in the trade winds during the days and nights. We had a fantastic stay and hope to come back to Banana Wind soon! Thanks again!
