Casa Alyssa is a gorgeous new hilltop vacation villa on the Isla de Vieques, 10 miles off the coast of Puerto Rico’s main island. As a small island of which 2/3 is nature preserve, with no cruise ship ports or all-inclusive resorts, Vieques is one of very few remaining spots to have escaped the corporate development that is typical of just about every other Caribbean destination. As such, it maintains its unique local charm, near deserted beaches and, most importantly, a remarkably stress-free, relaxing environment for your soul.

As... Elle Magazine eloquently described it: “Vieques' main attraction is its unspoilt beaches. [We] went days without seeing anyone. …this is how Vieques trumps most of the rest of the Caribbean: rather than being a place to come for flag-in-sand service […] it feels like your very own desert island, and there really is no sexier place to play at being stranded.” In other words, Vieques is for those seeking a more authentic, pristine and peaceful Caribbean vacation experience, although you will still find many of the amenities you expect, such as water sports and fine dining, etc.

CASA ALYSSA IS NOW BABY-FRIENDLY! We have a crib and stroller that are suitable for babies and toddlers, and 2 car seats suitable for newborns and for up to 4 years old.

Casa Ayssa is located 240 feet above sea level with a view of the Atlantic Ocean and the Isla de Culebra. It has 3 large bedrooms (plus fold-out sofa-bed in the living room sleeps 2 more), each come with linens, towels and their own full bathroom. Air conditioning, ceiling fans or soothing ocean breezes will keep you comfortable under the sun or in the shade. The large, open dining room and living room offer ocean views from 2 windows and open out onto a large covered patio with another dining area and a good ocean view.

The kitchen is fully equipped for gourmet cooking, including stainless steel appliances, espresso machine, and a BBQ outside. The house also has a washer and dryer, yoga mat, satellite TV and surround sound entertainment system (including iPod hook-up) and high speed internet (bring your cell phones – they work on the island too!). You will also enjoy the added relaxation benefit of watching the island’s wild horses mill about around our property all day long!

Located just a 4-5 minute drive from Isabel Segunda, where you will find all the amenities (grocery stores, banks, gas stations, post office, restaurants, & bars, etc), and just 10-15 minutes from numerous, often deserted beaches. It's also just 8-10 minutes from the Malecon (boardwalk) in Esperanza, where you will find all the water sports (kayaking, sailing, scuba diving, including bio-bay) as well as cycling excursions and many more restaurants, bars and shops.

Casa Alyssa also provides folding beach chairs, coolers, beach towels and body boards – everything you need to spend a relaxing day on the untouched beaches of Vieques from the first moment you arrive!

Owner/hosts, Gerry & Francine, are available during most of the high season (they live in the downstairs apartment, but solid concrete construction ensures complete privacy and noise insolation) to offer any information, advice or assistance you may require to make your stay in Vieques as pleasant and fulfilling as possible. In their absence, we have a property manager who is always on call to answer any questions or solve any problems.   Our family of 7 adults rented this property from 12/26-1/2/13. The 7 passenger SUV was not available to use and "in the shop". We learned this upon a late night arrival on 12/26 with 7 family members. No replacement vehicle was available and no rentals available on the island due to the busy season. The air conditioning did not work throughout the entire house for the duration, no microwave, only 2 beach towels in the unit, no sheets for the pull-out couch, rusted and unusable beach chairs, very sloppy housekeeping - unclean/broken outdoor grill, dirty kitchenware, porch, windows, curtains and property - overall. The kitchen lacked adequate utensils for very basic cooking for 7. The house is located in very "local" neighborhood. The perimeter security was inadequate - large holes in the chain link fence, unworkable/unlit iron entry gate at the top of the property, lower gate permanently open to accommodate caretaker car and apparently the renters. The house is not located in an area that is accessible to beaches, restaurants, or groceries without a vehicle available. Approximately 15-30 mins. to all beaches via a vehicle - 8-10 mins to restaurants or groceries. Owner had not visited property in two years prior to our visit.

  At Casa Alyssa, it is important to us that our guests have a comfortable and relaxing stay, and can enjoy all the beauty that Vieques has to offer. As the owner, I would like readers to know that this incident is entirely unprecedented, as can be seen by the other comments (including the ones posted by the Hunter group, who rented immediately after the Hammer group).
  We are responding to, and addressing all of the elements that caused dissatisfaction below:
  ? SUV
  The SUV had unexpectedly broken down and was unfortunately still being repaired when the group arrived. We offered transportation services to our guests until a car could be rented, and covered the cost incurred by the replacement car rental.
  ? Air conditioning, microwave, beach towels One of the AC units was not functioning properly and has been repaired. We have also acquired a microwave. We have confirmed that the beach towel supply has been brought back up to its usual inventory of 8.
  ? Sheets for pull-out couch, beach chairs
  There are sheets for the pull-out couch. If something cannot be found, please feel free to ask us and we will be happy to help you find it. We apologize about the beach chairs. They had been stored in the shed and had not been taken out prior to the group’s arrival. We will ensure this doesn’t happen again.
  ? Housekeeping and kitchen utensils
  The house was thoroughly cleaned and the porch was hosed down on the morning of the group’s arrival. Sorry about the kitchen utensils; some items from our usual inventory had gone missing and we have since addressed the issue.
  ? Casa’s location
  The Casa is located in Villa Borinquen, less than 10 min by car from Isabel Segunda, the island’s main town (where you will find a grocery store and fine restaurants) and 15 min by car from Esperanza, where you will find the ocean side malecon and more fine restaurants and boutiques. Villa Borinquen is home to a mix of visitors, locals and, as everywhere else on the island, quite a few horses.
  ? Needing a car
  If you wish to explore the island, a vehicle is necessary if staying anywhere in Vieques. This is how you will be able to discover the island’s character, particularly the myriad secluded beaches found here and there all over the island.
  
  ? Security
  - The hole in the fence is being repaired.
  - The gate fixtures had been broken by horses. A new system unreachable by horses is being installed.
  - With the cooperation of guests, all gates must be locked at all times. The caretaker will monitor this.
  Again, please note that this negative review is unprecedented and that the issues have been addressed. The casa is now the convenient and enjoyable vacation home it has always been, as can be seen by the comments left by the group who stayed here afterwards. Thanks.

  Casa alyssa in Barrio Villa Borinquen, Vieques PR is a great value for a Vieques house rental.
  Located a short drive from Isabel Segunda, the Eastern Reserve and Esperanza, this 3 bedroom, 3 bath house is both convenient and comfortable.
  
  The Master bedroom, with a queen-size bed, is private and has its own bath with a double sink and glass-block shower.
  The second bedroom, with a full-size/french bed, has its facilities arranged in two separate areas, with its pedestal sink in a large nook in the room (B&B; style) and a private toilet and shower.
  The third bedroom, which is accessed by passing through the second bedroom, has two single/twin beds and a private bath, with toilet, shower and sink.
  All three bedrooms have air-conditioning, although we didn't use it during our stay.
  The configuration, with the second and third bedrooms connected, and the easy access to the sink in the second bedroom, makes this especially nice for families with children.
  
  The kitchen is well-appointed with a double-basin sink, a dishwasher, a full-size refrigerator and all the usual small appliances (toaster, coffee-maker, et al.) and is open to the dining and living areas.
  The dining and living area is well ventilated, has glass windows that take in the northern views to Culebra even when closed, and is furnished with a gathering table for six and a couch and several chairs.
  
  The large veranda also has a dining table and seating for six as well as several extra chairs, and the washer and dryer are located there, along with a large grill. There are also a couple of lounge chairs and a large umbrella. The outdoor shower located off the veranda was convenient for rinsing off sandy feet after returning from a beach.
  The grounds are lovely, with banana plants, bougainvillea, and ginger in a very large front yard. There is off-street parking for at least 2 vehicles behind the house.
  
  The owners and the property manager are really pleasant, nice people and were helpful both while we

  Paradise in Vieques

  I traveled to Vieques with four of my children and their friends aged 9 - 25 and we had the time of our lives January 8th - the 15th. The beaches were pristine and the house included all neccesary ammenities. A caretaker lives in an in-law apartment just below the house and he was a great addition to our stay, who provided invaluable information. We especially enjoyed the open air patio where we played dominos and took our meals. There are no bugs! You do not need air conditioning as the night breezes are cool. The roosters were our alarm, which sometimes signaled us to bed at 4 a.m and also could wake you unless the fans were running. We also rented a jeep from the owners, which was the best and we nicknamed it "the trooper" as some of the roads to various beaches were not paved. I captured a video of a mother and newborn running down Playa Negrom, which was a magical moment. There are no horseflies because there is so much land for the horses to graze. It was a birders paradise and I sat near the roof of Casa alyssa many mornings while the kids slept and took many pictures of hummingbirds and caught one on film as it was feeding from the flowers, which surround the property. We went to the Bio Bay on three different occasions and it was a site to behold. I have never seen so many stars! The beaches in Vieques are diverse and we were amazed at the differences between them. Playa Navio is great for body surfing and was the favorite among the group. Enjoy your trip!

  Great value, great view, and a problem-free stay

  Great stay in Vieques! I stayed at the house for 3 nights with a large group of friends during our spring break. The house was spacious and equipped with everything we needed including cooking supplies, fresh towels, snorkel gear, Wifi, etc. The house also had a lovely patio and a nice view from the hillside. It is in a residential neighborhood and takes some maneuvering to find, but once we'd driven there a few times we were able to navigate without any problems.
  
  Mario met our group at the airport and waited patiently while we (very slowly) organized ourselves, the took us to the house. He was also available by phone and in person whenever we needed directions or any suggestions for locales to visit around the island.
  
  The only problems to report would be the showers, which didn't all consistently have hot water. However, one of the showers always had hot water so we just used that one.
  
  Would happily recommend the house to others visiting Vieques!

  We will look into the hotwater problem; the showers have on-demand individualk heaters so this problem should not occur.
