Description from the owner

Casa Azul is in the small village of Esperanza, on Vieques’ Caribbean side, the island’s most popular destination. The Malecon, Esperanza’s waterfront with its restaurants, bars and shops, is a short walk away and there are several small grocery stores that are within walking distance as well. Sun Bay, a large, picturesque beach which is often deserted, is a five minute drive from the house.

Casa Azul is located near the end of a dead end street, beyond which are acres of undeveloped land. Horses—both tame and wild—walk past at all hours. The house has been recently renovated and has large tiled patios in front and back, whic...Read more

A great little house close to everything

Left on 09/13/2012 for a stay in August 2012

If you're looking for an inexpensive island getaway without the crowds, Vieques is the place to go and this is the place to stay. The house isn't extravagant, but it's clean and comfortable. It's also minutes away from the great southern island beaches and just up the street from Esperanza, where all the best bars and restaurants are. We were there in august, after the busier months, so we had the beaches to ourselves.

Joe, the rental manager, was very helpful with directions and recommendations for restaurants, beaches and snorkeling spots. It's perfect for couples who just want to relax and get away from it all.

Nice place off the beaten path

Left on 06/03/2012 for a stay in May 2012

We wanted a cute and cozy place to ourselves away from the main tourist drags, and we were not disappointed! For just three days on Vieques, it was perfect. We would have stayed longer had we not made other reservations on the main island.
It's true that the Malecon is in walking distance, but you probably only want to do that in the evening, which we did. Otherwise, you'll need to rent a jeep (we used Maritza's) to get to the more "remote" beaches, anyhow. We felt very safe in this neighborhood, where in the "back corner" of the barrio, the main sounds were roosters, dogs, and other "everyday" neighborhood sounds. If noise is a factor when you sleep, don't worry, because you'll have the bedroom aC fan cranked up! (It got cold to the point we had to turn it way down.) The property manager is a retiree from the states and lives just down the street. He is readily available and will give you a thoroughly detailed scoop about the island.
We really enjoyed watching some of the neighborhood chickens and their chicks forage around the yard in the morning and evening, and a friendly local cat adopted us for the duration of our stay. The yard is beautifully landscaped with a wonderful variety of tropical palms, flowering shrubs, and cacti. A great place to kick with a homemade pina colada after exploring the amazing beaches all day!

A little bit of serene paradise in the Caribbean

Left on 05/12/2012 for a stay in February 2012

I have stayed at Casa azul in Esperanza on multiple occasions for it's perfect location in Vieques. This cute home provides all the privacy needed with the healthy vibrant tropical garden inside the decorative walled property. The screened & louvered glass windows & doors allow the radiant caribbean light to flow into the home making it a cheery place to rejuvenate one's spirit. The property manager couple are so passionate about the island. It reflects in the service they provide starting with meeting you at the airport and helping you get to the car rental place & or Casa azul. Thus "no worries" while here!
The beaches are so serene, natural & so uncrowded one often feels one has the whole beach to oneself. There are at least 8 Caribbean beaches to explore, some with coral reefs for snorkeling! Kayaking off the Malecon shoreline is also great fun. The evening sunsets are spectacular along the Malecon. After sundown, back at the house your ears will be serenaded by the sweet sounds of the native unseen tree frogs. Regarding the amenities, the TV is only a monitor for movie rental viewing. All other amenities are clean and meet expectations. I stay each time for a week & feel thoroughly renewed from my experience at Casa azul.

Malecon in Esperanza..life is wonderful here!

      Great value, great location

Left on 05/04/2012 for a stay in January 2012

High at the back of Esparanza village is Casa azul: Tropical flowers in a walled garden, large spacious bedrooms, a clean, very functional kitchen and plenty of hot water for showering after a day on the beach, hiking or birding. This house is in a mixed neighborhood of tourist rentals and locals - you gotta love roosters, horses, dogs, cats and Latin music all drifting through the streets! The people are friendly (and I don't speak Spanish); there are three family-run grocery stores within a five-minute walk. The area always seemed very safe to me; as a single woman I often walked up from the village at night after a great dinner. But hey, get out of town! You can go to a different beach every day for two or three weeks, all more beautiful than you have ever seen, anywhere in the world.

Great house and mimi and joe pa are the best

Left on 04/29/2012 for a stay in December 2011

The house is very nice with all the amenities you need. The caretakers are awesome with a ton of knowledge and Joe will even teach you to play domino with him and his friends if you see him on the malicon. I would definitely stay there again.

great house in a great location

Left on 01/09/2012 for a stay in December 2011

I stayed here about a month ago, and couldn't have asked for anything more. The house has everything that you might need (including a completely equipped kitchen - we cooked dinner most every night) and is very comfortable. We slept four easily. In the middle of Esperanza, it is a short walk from the Malecon and a shorter drive. Being on the Caribbean side means that you are close to all of the best beaches on the island, most notably Navio and Blue Beach. I highly recommend Casa azul to anyone who is going to be vacationing in Vieques.

      Amazing

Left on 01/09/2012 for a stay in December 2011

I stayed at the Casa azul in December 2011 and had the most amazing experience! The house is very well kept and super cute! There are two bedrooms with one king size bed and two full beds.

The house is located in a residential area which is walking distance from the Malecon. The Malecon is the main strip in Esperanza with great restaurants and shops. The house is also very close to all the amazing caribbean beaches in Vieques.

We also did a tour of the bio bay with canoes that were clear so you could see through them, it was the coolest thing I have ever seen!

      Unique and exotic experience

Left on 01/02/2012 for a stay in June 2008

I have stayed at Casa azul twice. I just love it there and I intend to return. The house is updated, tastefully decorated and very comfortable with nice beds and new ceiling fans. We found everything we needed in the kitchen. We just loved sitting on the front patio having our morning coffee and admiring the exotic plants in the garden. The pristine beaches on this island are truly gorgeous and I absolutely loved vising the bioluminescent bay. This house is in a convenient location within walking distance of the main street with the waterfront restaurants and shops(the Malecon). I highly recommend it!

Going back at the next chance!

Left on 12/28/2011 for a stay in December 2011

I stayed in Casa azul last week with three other friends and it was everything we wanted and more.

The bedrooms were comfortable with a/c units available (although we never switched them on, preferring to use the fans provided).

The kitchen was fully stocked with pots, pans, blender; everything we needed for cooking at home, grilling, and making frozen drinks! They also provided a large cooler and water jugs, as well as towels, chairs, umbrella etc... for bringing to the beach.

But the location really makes this place perfect! Every night after grilling on the back patio, we would walk down to the Malecon where the food, drinks, company, and sunsets were unbelievable. The beaches were close driving (or biking if you have them) distance away and so stunning I didn't think it was real.

Sitting in my office on a chilly mid-atlantic December day, I keep having to look at my tanned arms and countless pictures to remind myself that it wasn't all a dream, haha. I'm going back as soon as I can!

Also, the property managers are so nice and helpful.

Vieques (and Casa azul) is the choice vacation spot for me. Just enough "off the grid" to feel authentic and private, but with plenty of amusement for us 20-somethings to kick back.

Also, we did a Bio-bay tour that was fantastic and unforgetable.

      Wonderful Trip

Left on 12/19/2011 for a stay in February 2011

My Mom and I were lucky enough to stay at this home for our "birthday celebration" in Vieques. Having never been to the island before, we were not sure what to expect and ending up having one of the best trips of our lives!

Casa azul is located in a residential neighborhood, yet conveniently located just a few minutes from the shops and restaurants in Esperenza. The house was clean, colorful and surrounded by tropical flowers. Such a joy to awake each morning to the array of beautiful colors!

The beaches and the horses were our favorite part of the trip. The water and views were spectacular and we made sure to catch sunset every night. Each night we tried a new restaurant and loved the local fare. The tourists and locals were as friendly as can be, and we met some really great folks.

I would recommend a trip to Vieques for anyone who loves the beach and tropical climates. Casa azul is a perfect place to stay - so airy bright and relaxed,

      Beautiful little place

Left on 10/07/2011 for a stay in November 2007

We stayed in this house twice, in March 2006 and Nov. 2007. We enjoyed our stay both times tremendously. The house is not very large, it is just right for 4 people. There are two bedrooms, one with large bed and the other with two double beds. One could have 6 people stay as well, since there is also a couch in the living room. We loved staying in the town, walking to a nearby bakery in the mornings for fresh bread and being part of local scene. There is also a small grocery store nearby. Vieques is like paradise, not touched by commercial development, with amazing beaches and beautiful nature. People who check you in this house are amazing and fun couple from MD, they are super nice and friendly. The house is clean, has a nice kitchen and bathroom, and also a patio to sit in the evenings. We can't wait to visit again!
