ConnecticutGorgeous house - great location - couple of things...
Left on 03/21/2013 for a stay in February 2013
The house is right out of architecture Digest - in fact it actually was in architecture Digest - you can look it up. Right on the water - infinity pool (when we were there the "infinity" waterfall wasn't working, pool guy said they'd probably fix it next summer. Didn't make a lot of difference) Plenty of room indoors and out, fully equipped kitchen, Three bedrooms (we didn't opt for the guest house with it's extra two beds) each with ensuite bathroom. Note that one of the bedrooms is simply spectacular, the other two are merely fabulous. You should establish the pecking order early.
During our vacation the seas were particularly high so that the sound of the surf hitting the rocks below was almost overpowering - thought it would keep us up nights but we slept like logs.
Couple of things... The second upstairs shower drain didn't. Water pressure from the rainwater fixture is more than adequate, but you'll want to turn it down a little or you run out of hot water in about 10 minutes - each bath seems to have it's own hot water heater. The place was furnished, but a little sparsely, as if it were a model home. We found ourselves moving furniture around to create conversation areas.
The admonition to keep the doors and windows locked (apparently there's a lot of minor property crime in Vieques - although people were quick to say there is very little violent crime) was a little confining. We had to open up all the doors in the morning and close them all at night - or when we left the house. Sounds like a quibble, but there were several large doors and windows involved.
Also, the car we rented from the agent (Shiela Levin) was a virtual death trap - the steering more or less didn't. Fortunately, you never get over 25 miles an hour or so on the island and we were able to survive.
All in all a very pleasant vacation in a very impressive house. -

Princeton, NJStunning views and a stunning house
Left on 11/27/2012 for a stay in November 2012
The Dacha is gorgeous, located on a cliff above the atlantic. The back wall of the living room consists of 4 giant wooden doors that slide open to reveal the turquoise colored sea.
The house had been completely re-painted inside and out just before our arrival. The house manager, Karen, started working for the Dacha just 3 days before we arrived, but had already whipped the house into shape. There were brand new bath towels, beach chairs, coolers and beach tote bags.
The master bedroom has a giant balcony, huge bathroom and walk-in closet, and an outdoor shower with 2 rain-heads. The other 2 bedrooms each have a private balcony or porch.
The house has loads of outdoor seating, in sun or shade. The dining table is on a covered porch overlooking the ocean.
The piece-de-resistance is the infinity pool. We spent a lot of time soaking in the pool and looking out to sea. We watched wild horses grazing and pelicans flying. And always there was the sound of waves crashing below.
Just outside the gate, a very short walk leads down to a small beach. We did see some other people on the beach a few times, but every time we were there we had it to ourselves. Correction: one time we shared it with the wild horses.
The kitchen was fully equipped and there was a gas grill with full tank. The kitchen provided coffee filters, paper towels, paper napkins, zipper bags, foil. There were also matches to light the numerous candles and the grill.
Karen took care to see we were comfortable, while respecting our privacy by calling before coming over. She gave great tips on beaches, restaurants and shopping. When we arrived, no one knew the password of the house's wifi, so Karen loaned us her own personal wifi until she found out the house password.
The house does have a few quirks still, but I am confident Karen will have them ironed out asap. Although new to the Dacha she is an experienced house manager.
We were enchanted with The Dacha and hated to leave it.

The Dacha has a beautiful infinity pool and gorgeous views. The villa itself is decrepit - don't expect any luxury. It was probably lovely at one time, but rental usage and possibly age has taken its toll.
Views cannot be beat, and the outdoor space is very nice, perfect for extended families. We were 6 and had plenty of room. Ice maker and blender worked great, as did the t.v. and the wi fi connection. Infinity pool was spotless and very pretty. Be prepared to rough it house wise, and beware of the dogs on the road to the villa - quite aggressive. -

Newburyport MAGorgeous location, stunning views. Beautiful house
Left on 03/13/2012 for a stay in February 2012
We had a lovely stay at the Dacha - it was perfect for our two families with small children. We had a very relaxed week, enjoyed the amazing views from our house and it was a wonderful "home base" to come back to after we explored the island each day. While the house could use a few updates, it is clearly a beautiful spot and we'd love to return again.

49512Spectacular view and stunning architecture covers many blemishes
Left on 01/16/2012 for a stay in January 2012
The view is spectacular and the architecture of the house is stunning which covered the many blemishes on the property. The property needs a thorough inspection, maintenance and repair to bring it up to the first class status that is advertised.
Some observations
1. Cushions are faded and have splitting seams
2. Broken furniture
3. Butler cart leg broken and held up with a brick.
4. Hinges broken on the charcoal box lid. Dangerous.
5. Many of the window louvers do not operate.
6. Bathroom mirrors have the silver coming off. Looks antique but not fitting for the house style.
7. Courtyard fountain is broken.
8. Courtyard gate is badly warped preventing closing.
9. Planter boxes full of weeds and dead plantings.
10. Weeds in courtyard bricks.
11. Dying potted plants.
12. Leaks have damaged ceiling in various places.
13. Globes missing from some Terrace lighting
14. Raw sewerage flows onto the grounds.
15. Kitchen cabinets are filthy. Dirt and grease rings the knobs next to the wood. Waste bin drawer is wobbly and needs repair.
16. The tile grouting on the eternity pool is wearing out where the water flows over it. There is a dirt ring on the tiles around the pool. Looks like it has never been cleaned.
17. The advertisement pictures are of the house in its pristine condition. The present condition is no where near what the photos show.
18. Some door knobs are difficult to operate and lock. Many squeak. Need to be cleaned and oiled or replaced.
I have pictures to demonstrate most of the above observations -

I must admit... the street right before Dacha made us nervous. Littered, not well kept. Once we opened the gates of the house though all of our fears immediately disappeared. What a spectacular view! This was certainly one of the most beautiful views we could ever hope for. The house was so comfortable. We were 10 in our group and we never felt we were crowded. There was always a spot where one could go to read a book and be alone and always a spot where the 10 of us could be together and party hard. The island itself was magical. The sunsets were unforgettable. The mojitos, island punch and pina coladas were superb. The beaches some of the best ever. We would go back in a flash!

Franklin, TennesseeBreathtaking!
Left on 10/12/2010 for a stay in June 2010
The property is beautiful, peaceful and relaxing. The views are amazing! Every morning, we were greeted by the rising sun...magnificent! The sun set over the infinity edge pool in the evening, where we enjoyed many after dinner swims. The house is centrally located, within a 15 minute drive to Esperanza and a 5 minute drive to town. You will need a vehicle during your stay if you plan to explore the island. If you like to snorkel or scuba, check with Blackbeards...they are great!!! You will not be disappointed. The beach in front of the Dacha is nice to stroll and to snorkel. The cliff wall is steep, but offers wonderful, careful exploration of the sea life in the tide pools. Local kayak outfitters will deliver kayaks for use during your stay. We cannot wait to return next summer!!!
