Additional Location Information
We are situated in Malaga province in the heart of Andalucia on the edge of the Natural Park known as El Torcal, close to the village of Villanueva de la concepcion ( 3kms ) , 40 mins drive from Malaga airport.Surrounded by a landscape of hills and rocky outcrops this is rural Spain at it's best. The Cortijo lies just below the Sierra del Torcal, an immense mass of limestone which 200 million years ago lay under the sea and now rises to an altitude of 1336m having been sculpted by the wind and rain over thousands of years forming weird and unusual rock formations.
The countryside around us is a mixture of arable land ,olive trees , almond trees and cork oak. Interspersed amongst the hills are numerous goat tracks and the sound of goat bells ringing in the air is never far away.In this privileged environment we have an old farmhouse that has been restored as the perfect rural retreat. With stunning views to the Mediterranean coast and surrounding Sierras, this is the ideal location for those wishing to experience the Real Spain.
There are numerous opportunities in the area for all kinds of outdoor activities such as cycling - both MTB and Road walking , rock climbing, horse riding, and bird watching ( Eagles and Vultures make regular appearances in our skies ).
We are located 25 mins drive from the ancient town of Antequera which is considered to be at the crossroads of Andalucia and so we are ideally situated for making day trips to the historical cities of Granada 1.5 hrs drive , Cordoba 2hrs , Seville 2 .5 hrs . Plenty to do and see, with the city of Malaga and the beaches of the Costa del Sol only 45 mins away - if you should want them.

Left on 11/01/2012 for a stay in October 2012
This is what we had been looking for. The near-century-old farmhouse, at the end of a narrow country road, lay on a slope overlooking an open valley, with the lights of Málaga and the glimmer of the sea visible in the distance. The small town (with markets) was safely down-slope, and out of earshot. Neighboring goatherds, household pets and the wind provided the acoustic entertainment.
Our hosts, who live next door, have restored the buildings with great care. The modern amenities and level of comfort left nothing to be desired, and the flavor of its earlier years is maintained. The owners have added a beautiful swimming pool, and lovingly tend the surrounding gardens.
We note with appreciation the wealth of information available for the asking from our hosts. Their experiences of years of bicycle trips over the country and their seven years at this location are most willingly shared. The situation of this property is central to andalucía, with many towns and cities of interest within two hours' drive.
In addition, the owners are accomplished artists (ceramics), a few of whose creations decorate the two rental units.
For travelers whose interests include a sense of place (in addition to sun and warmth) we highly recommend Cortijo la Solana, and were saddened only that our jobs required our return to the north of Europe after only a week.

Madison, WisconsinGreat Stay in Breathtaking Location
Left on 07/03/2012 for a stay in June 2012
We rented the Cortijo, the larger of the two rental properties on the site. The owners also live in the Cortijo, but their residence is kept separate by an archway, gate and wall. Access to the property is along a track that winds its way across farm fields from the main road. It took us - driving tentatively and carefully - around 10 minutes to drive the track to the main road since the surface is uneven and in places the road has been washed out. We didn't rent a 4WD, but we felt that having one would be an advantage both for access and in the local area.
The farmhouse has a commanding view of the surrounding countryside; the plateau of El Torcal to the north and great vistas down to the coastal cities of Malaga and Torremolinos some 35km to the south. We all spent a long time simply taking in the views.
The farmhouse itself suited our extended family - each of the three bedrooms has its own bathroom and shower and for most of our stay in June, the rooms stayed at a pleasant temperature. For the majority of our stay, there was a breeze, or wind, that cooled things off. We loved having the pool which made up for its small size by being surprisingly deep at one end. We also enjoyed making friends with the owners dogs and the menagerie of farm animals kept in the enclosures behind the house.
The hosts, David and Diana were absolutely perfect hosts and wonderful to us all during our stay. On arrival they provided wine and a few locally made products. We were lucky to find some basic foodstuffs in the fridge and larder that kept us going until we could shop in Villanueva de la Conception, the nearest town.
There are untethered dogs at neighbouring farms, so we had to drive very carefully on the track up to the Cortijo. The dog situation probably dissuaded us from doing as much walking in the immediate vicinity of the Cortijo as we would have liked. -

We have stayed at the Farmhouse 3 times, twice in summer, and once in September. We rarely return to the same place, however we have never been disappointed. The owners are lovely and really helpful, offering produce they have grown themselves and assisted when our car had a puncture-but at the same time they keep their distance.
Directions from Malaga airport were easy to follow.
The house is situated about 50 mins from the airport via motorway & decent rural roads.
The farmhouse is situated beyond Villanueva on the road to antequera. The views looking beyond the village and to the Coast are lovely.
The main farmhouse has a lounge with Sat.Tv/dvd, Dining area and kitchen which houses a washing machine.
3 large bedrooms,all en suite.
There is also an outside eating area, together with barbecue.
There is a refreshing pool with plenty of surrounding room for lounging in the sun.
The owners have several animals which keep themselves to themselves.
Villanueva is a small village with a couple of small supermarkets, bars, banks and a pharmacy.
Larger supermarkets can be found over the mountain road in antequera (30 mins). Antequera is worth a visit, as is El Torcal the nature reserve which you drive by on the way to antequera.
Visit the old part of Malaga(50 mins) and the coastal areas of Torremolinos/Benalmedina are just over an hour away(water park at Torremolinos)
Slightly futher afield is the mountain village of Mijas and coatal town of Nerja(visit the caves).
Inland the town of Ronda to the south west is about 90 mins away but worth a day trip for the fabulous Puente Neuvo bridge/El Tajo gorge.
The summer weather was excellent, temps in the mid 30C's & cloudless skies.
The weather in Sept. was still warm, afternoon temps frequently reaching 30C and perfect for exploring.
Overall an excellent holiday property. Have a good holiday. -

This traditional farmhouse certainly lived up to our high expectations. We received a very warm welcome and were so impressed by the quality of the restoration of this traditional property and the way the owners had decorated each room using their own beautiful textiles and pottery. This was certainly home from home with excellent cooking facilities and lots of space. The pool is a good useable size and lovely and clean. To keep us entertained on an evening we made good use of the CDs and book collection. The surrounding country side and national park was stunning and though remote, many places of interest were within an hours drive. We were delighted to be able to spend time making a fuss of the owner's 4 dogs who would be their to greet us each day when we got back. This helped us feel less home sick as we always regret not having our own dogs with us. The track up to the farm is rather rough in places so best arrive in daylight the first time you drive it. And remember if you are going out of season you will need some warm clothing in the evenings as there is minimal heating and the house is up in the mountains. We highly recommended sitting out late at night to watch the night sky as the lack of street lights make the stars so much clearer, fantastic!

RotterdamGreat House!
Left on 02/13/2012 for a stay in October 2011
We stayed in the smaller house with 1 bedroom for a week with our 1 year old son (who slept in the livingroom).
We enjoyed the view, the pool, the animals, the rest, the bed, the terras, the rustic kitchen (where we spend the evenings playing Scrabble with candlelight), the adventures road to the house with the goats, the magnificent El Torcal (nature reserve), the vegetables we had from the garden, the hospitality of the owner, the nice interior and the sun!
We hope to visite the house again with my whole family. Because the house with the 4 bedrooms was also amazing!

In this house we had a wonderfull family vacation. Me, my husband, y son and my mother in law and father in law all had a wonderfull stay. The surroundings are the best and the people are so nice in the village. David and his wife are really nice and calm people who let you be in your home, but iff you have questions they are there for you! The bio-vegetables that Diana brought were very good off taste and we loved them! A good adress to stay, the pool is a hit for small children, our son liked it so much. The alpaca's and the donkeys are a hit too for little children. The house is really well furnished and decorated with a lot off attention.
So a great place to stay!

Left on 02/12/2012 for a stay in September 2011
We have experienced a wonderful holiday in this accommodation in the countryside of Malaga. The house is fully equipped, has a great location and is richly decorated. It gives a real "welcome home" feeling.
You get a realy countryside feeling because of the location and the dayly returning herd of sheep.
Malaga is a 45 minute drive, but the very nice town of antequera is just around the corner (10 minute drive).
Please note that since it is such a wonderful place, it is difficult to return to "normal" life :-) -

The house has a lot of character and is tastefully decorated and well equipped. Beautiful (rural) surroundings, peaceful, comfortable. Beautiful views, nice animals around the house (fascinating for young children) and very friendly and helpful owners that live next door but totally respect your privacy. We stayed at the house twice and plan to return. Great things to do, a part from relaxing by the poolside: walk through El Torcal, visit antequera, Cordoba, Granada, Seville, Ronda, Nerja and Malaga (also beach) go horse riding, visit Lobo Park, enjoy eating tapas at the local restaurants etc . A car is required.
