Boston MAA low key honeymoon in paradise!
Left on 10/24/2012 for a stay in September 2012
My husband and I stayed at the Boulder House for our honeymoon and couldn't have had a more relaxing time! The house is in a perfect spot to watch the activity from atop the hill, explore using the truck that comes with the rental, and interact with the ways of the locals. We were there in September, and when they say most of the island is closed, take it seriously! We wanted to have a couple fancy nights out and a couple casual nights out, and we ended up just doing a couple casual outings for dinner because most restaurants and resorts were closed for the month, or for a couple of weeks surrounding our early September trip. That just allowed us to relax more by getting groceries and cooking for ourselves as the sun set behind Tortola. The porch that wrapped around the Boulder House was the perfect spot to watch that sun set every night! Howard and Irma weren't on the island at the same time as us, so we had Patrick, who met us at the airport, showed us to our truck, and led us to the grocery store, and then to the Boulder House. That was all the introduction we needed because everything was very straight forward. Our favorite beaches on Virgin Gorda were Spring Bay Beach and the Baths, as well as Savannah Bay Beach. Every beach we went to, we had to ourselves for at least half the time we were there. That is owed to the fact that we were there in September. That's the upside of the trip during low season. The one thing I didn't expect when booking a house in the middle of the neighborhood was the sound of dogs and roosters at night and in the early hours of the morning. Luckily we were able to fall back asleep quickly. There are also roosters all over the island, so maybe you hear them no matter where you are! All in all, we had an amazing time and would highly recommend the Boulder House to anyone that wants to have a low key vacation in paradise!

Pittsburgh, PALike living in Paradise
Left on 04/01/2011 for a stay in February 2011
Just returned from my 5th stay in the Hunter rental homes on Virgin Gorda. I am not even that much of a beach person but staying here is one of my favorite vacation trips (and I travel a lot!). The two homes, Boulder and Cedar, share a breathtaking 3 acre private estate atop a hill with sweeping views of the island and sea. This is the perfect location for a romantic getaway, a family trip with children or even a wedding or extended family group trip. If you reserve enough ahead of time you can get both houses, which are only about 200 ' apart, and comfortably house as many as 15 people. Boulder House gets my vote for just a couple, but either house is wonderful.
If you are the sort of person who prefers privacy and a laid-back atmosphere where you feel like you are at home (only better!), this is the place. No, it does not offer the resort amenities of room service, bars and entertainment on site, but if you wanted that you would not be reading about rentals. Both houses are airy, spacious and well-furnished with everything you could possibly need, including a housekeeper who comes to tidy the place every other day or so. Grumpy spouses who normally hate hotel and resort travel can couchsurf and watch TV or drink beer out on the gorgeous decks while the rest of the family takes off in the pickup truck (provided with the house) to explore some of the most wonderful beaches in the Caribbean or to hiking trails where they can find hermit crabs and lizards in the woods. Parents will love being able to let the kids explore the enclosed property, a wonderful maze of trees, flowering shrubs and huge granite boulders with lots of tiny lizards to find, even the ocassional hermit crab. The deck of Boulder House wraps around a rock that looks like a giant hamburger!
Gorda is a slow-paced, safe and pleasant island -- more often than not, we choose to cook and eat at the house rather than go out, since groceries are reasonable at Rosey's 1/4 mile up the road and it is so nice to be at the house and eat out on the deck. Again, great for a family with young kids and with distances so small there you will not have problems of cranky bored kids on long transports. In 5 or 10 minutes you can get to most beaches and restaurants. And older teens will enjoy the freedom of being able to walk to the shops and beaches from the house.
I can't say enough about how much I love this place and the Hunter Homes. -

Falling Waters, WVTwo wonderful weeks in snorkel paradise
Left on 02/09/2011 for a stay in January 2011
My wife & I just returned from two wonderful weeks at one of the Hunter Homes in Virgin Gorda (VG). We were in the Boulder House. We selected VG because we wanted to do lots of snorkeling.
We were not disappointed. The location of the house was great with views of the Yacht Harbor on one side and the sea on the other side of the island. The house was very roomy and had a well equipped kitchen and bath. There was lots of entertainment options including books to read/exchange, good TV, CD player, DVD player, and a very good wireless internet connection. I used the internet daily and the speed was comparable to what I have at home. The CD system was good but you need to bring your own CDs.
The price for the rental seemed high but after comparing it to the resorts we decided it was reasonable. Especially with the vehicle which saved $50-$60 a day. We had a small problem with the vehicle early in our visit but were very impressed by the speed at which the property managers arranged for a mechanic to come diagnose and fix the problem. 15 minutes after calling the managers the mechanic arrived. He diagnosed the problem and fixed it on the spot.
I would be remiss if I did not mention the excellent advice that Mr. Hunter gave us before departure and the friendly and efficient maid service supplied by Shirley. Steve's advise on which ferry company to use, bringing own snorkel equipment, etc made things go smoothly and the trip more economical. Shirley was also a friendly source of information and went about her work in a non-disruptive way.
We have a few suggestions on things to not bring and bring. Do not bring any dress cloths such as long pants, long sleeved shirts, or shoes. You just won't use them. Only bring 1 reading book as there are many for which you can exchange. Do bring the CDs and Dvds.
Well if you got to the end of this very wordy review you should take the next step and try it for your self.

The Potters
Vienna, VASigh, I am revealing our little secret paradise
Left on 02/12/2010 for a stay in June 2009
We have been renting the Boulder House every year for 9 years now. I suppose that should be testament enough of how much we enjoy the place. It is very simple living in a beautiful setting. The house is comfortably appointed, nothing fancy, just homey. The views are some of the best on the island and the breeze is always blowing (something that doesn't happen at some of the beach-side houses on VG). There are some spectacular beaches on the island and, once you know where to go, you can often be the only people on them. The snorkeling is terrific. At the Boulder house you will find a binder packed with information and a visitor's journal that can give you great hints for where to go and what to do.
Having the truck to get around included is really nice as you do need transportation on the island.
Shirley has been tending to the house since we've been going there and you cannot find a more helpful, kind and caring person to make your stay pleasurable.
Dealing with the owners and property managers is always a pleasant experience. Everyone truly cares that you have a good time and welcome suggestions.
The one downside you have to accept is that the island roosters start crowing very early in the a.m. That is compensated by the fact that you can take a quiet siesta every afternoon!
So there, I've revealed our secret hide away. It is a very special place. :) -

Left on 02/08/2010 for a stay in December 2009
Boulder House is a beautifully situated comfortable home on a hill in Virgin
Gorda near the main village, Spanishtown. It is convenient to shopping,
restaurants, boating activities and beaches. The beaches are the most beautiful
we have seen. The house is cheerful, clean and well furnished, Shirley, the
housekeeper is friendly, knowledgeable and works two or so hours per day
allowing guests to vacation. The vehicle makes it possible to enjoy all the VG
has to offer. We love the atmosphere on the island and the islanders too. The
Hunter family is welcoming and organizes everything well. -

Left on 02/08/2010 for a stay in December 2009
An ideal vacation home for 2-4 people, situated in an informal garden atop a hill overlooking Spanish-town harbor and Francis Drake Channel on one side and the Atlantic on the other. Great breezes. A car is included, enabling easy access to magnificent beaches. Islanders own the island and are gracious hosts. Service includes towels, clean linens, help with daily maintenance, any necessary heavy cleaning, frequent flowers, and friendly help. Music from local bars on major holiday Friday nights can be a challenge to early evening sleep.
