Blue Fern Cottage is down a long private driveway. It is very usual to see hummingbirds, squirrels, rabbits, and hawks on a visit. Yet we are only 5 minutes from the freeway, and close to shopping (about a mile away.) This is a very peaceful place to be. The private driveway will easily manage any parking needs.

Spent a week at Blue Fern Cottage at the end of June 2012. House was perfect for my family of four. From the central location (accessible to beaches, San Diego, and Orange County), to the little things like cookies and wine at check in, Barb does an excellent job making you feel at home. My only issue (minor) was the TV reception was fairly weak, but when you are in Southern California, who has time for TV? Thanks Barb...we will be back.

My wife and I along with our two youngs kids stayed at this cottage for five nights in early June 2012. The property exceeded our expectations and we look forward to going back again. The owners Barb & Jim are very welcoming as fresh baked scones and a bottle of wine was waiting for us upon our arrival. A very nice touch! The cottage was perfect for the four of us as the kids enjoyed sleeping upstairs in their 'own room' and my wife and I slept in the very comfortable queen bed in the main floor room. The modern kitchen is fully equipped with everything you will need. The cottage is 15 minutes away from Legoland California and about 30-45 minutes away from Seaworld and San Diego Zoo. We especially looked forward each day to return back to the cottage after a long day at the theme parks. The cottage is quite peaceful and private.
Costco and albertsons are close by which was conveniennt along with various gas stations. The driveway is within steps to the cottage and secluded from the main road.
The booking process was very straight forward and Barb kept in contact with me along the way which I appreciated.
I would definitely recommend this property if you are visiting the San Diego area.
I hope my family has the opportunity to stay at Blue Fern Cottage again! -

My husband and I are frequent guests at Blue Fern. Our son and his family live about 5 minutes from this wonderful little cottage, so it is an ideal place for us to rent when we visit Vista, which is every 5 weeks or so. Barbara and her family create such a welcoming environment that it is most definitely a home away from home. Each time we arrive, there are beautiful little touches here and there to greet us; fresh flowers and lovely plants, a snack or two and always a delicious bottle of wine. The quiet and solitude of the grounds offer a serene environment where one can read, relax and enjoy the beautiful weather on the patio, just steps from the front door, hear the sound of the fountain, while the birds and bunnies provide a most enjoyable outdoor show. We love Blue Fern and are so grateful to have found such a delightful place; one that is close to everything while seeming to be away from it all. I know we will continue to stay at Blue Fern for years to come!! The graciousness of the Shanley Family and the beauty of the guest house are not to missed if one is looking for ideal lodging in Vista.

Staying at the Blue Fern guest house in Vista has been absolutely fantastic. We have stayed there on 6 occasions and each time our experience has been extremely enjoyable. We visit our son and his family who live in Vista frequently and would not stay anywhere else.
We are older adults and find the accommodations perfect.
The location is near to everything in Southern California, north to Los angeles and south to San Diego. Our focus has been visiting our grandson, but a trip to the Wild animal park is in our future.
While the cottage is in the heart of the city it seems you are in the country. We hope to stay there many times in the future. -

Our family did a marathon every day at the San Diego parks. It was so wonderful to drive back to the cottage away from the noise and crowds. When I collapsed in bed, the soothing surroundings were like a bedtime story and a reassuring hug that all was well.

We visit Vista at least a few times a year and always enjoy staying at the cottage. It's got a great kitchen and bathroom. Plus a great patio and there is even laundry. It's really a "home away from home". It is always very clean and Barbara always leaves little goodies for us! I would recommend it highly.
