This affordable 1 bedroom , 1 bath rental is so charming, totally private, yet in walking distance to the shops and restaurants. This cute little place even has a whirlpool tub in the bathroom where you can soak after a busy day exploring all the Volcano area has to offer. Left on 08/20/2011 for a stay in August 2011
We wanted to stay right in the town of Volcano Village to maximize our time in the park and avoid driving back and forth to Hilo. This house was perfect.
We stayed at Kilauea Garden Cottage for 3 nights. It was very clean and comfortable with a livingroom, well-equipped kitchen (full size fridge/freezer, microwave, coffeepot, stove/oven, pots/pans/dishes), covered lanai, two bedrooms (one with queen bed and the second with a futon), and a large, full bath. The plants in the front and back yard/garden are beautiful. The location was great, close to the small cluster of shops and restaurants in Volcano.
For hiking it was fantastic. We got into the park early in the morning before any crowds came in, and sometimes we ducked back to the cottage for lunch. In the evening we could come back, cook some dinner, then go back into the park easily (~10 minute drive) after dark to watch the glowing crater from Jagger Museum.
There were a few items in the fridge and freezer, but a couple of items in the fridge were expired. The grocery stores in Volcano Village do not have much selection and the prices are high so you might want to plan ahead and stock up in Hilo before driving down. Also, make sure to bring warm clothes and raingear!
There was wifi and TV but we didn't use them.
i would definitely recommend this to others, and I would definitely stay there again.
