Beautifully appointed and in a tropical setting...we couldn't have asked for more. Would have liked a queen bed in the guest room instead of a full-sized bed.

We stayed here for 2 days and 2 nights and it was very nice and comfortable. The house was well stocked with everything we needed in the kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, etc. It was a good location for easy access to most anywhere on the south side of the island. There was just the two of us but the house could easily hold 4-6 people. It was quiet, pleasant and spacious with a beautiful yard. We really appreciated the clothes washer and dryer. The caretakers where very friendly, helpful and willing to answer any of our questions. All in all an excellent place to stay, I have no complaints or suggestions for changes.

London, EnglandFabulous, warm and welcoming holiday home in Volcano
Left on 02/02/2012 for a stay in November 2011
We had such an amazing holiday on The Big Island thanks in large part to the stunning accommodation at Hale aloha. Mark and Martha have done a beautiful job with the house and gardens and it really feels like a secluded oasis to come back to each day.
We traveled to Hawaii from the UK and after 15 hours traveling via la it was so lovely to arrive in such a warm and welcoming place that really felt like home right down to the cozy open fire. Everything you could need was easily locatable within the house and Mark and Martha had ensured that we knew who to contact should we have had any problems or questions during our stay however everything was perfect.
The location was Brilliant as you are 5 minutes away from the Volcano National Park, which we found fantastic for hiking, incredible views and the volcano vents themselves were like nothing we have ever seen. We also found ourselves driving round there on more than a couple of nights after a beautiful meal in Volcano Village to watch the dramatic volcano at night as being just round the corner it was really easy to do.
We found Volcano Village to be an easy central base to explore the whole island whilst also being relaxing and friendly itself. The restaurants in Volcano were all really good, and we especially enjoyed Volcanos farmers market where we got to try aunty Joyce's famous Pastries which are a must try!
Really cannot recommend enough! Thank you for an amazing holiday!

We just had a wonderful stay at Mark and Martha's home. It is really well equipped and everything is new and clean. The fireplace is great for warming up on a cool evening. The binder of things to do, with contacts and directions was most helpful. And being 5 minutes from the park gate made it super convenient for going back and forth. Mark and Martha were very reachable by phone and email to help us plan our stay and answer little questions while we were here. Local contact aunty Joyce was also very helpful. If you are visiting the area, we would certainly recommend staying here. Trevor and Michele MacHattie and Mike and Susan Klazek.

Orlando, FLAbsolutely Wonderful!
Left on 04/22/2011 for a stay in February 2011
From the time we walked into the house we knew it was a "home". Quiet, well-stocked, very personal, secluded, and you could tell the owners had put a lot of thought and hard work into this rental (if you really want to call it a rental). It truly was a home away from home. Beautifully decorated, wonderful fireplace, gorgeous views of the rain-type forest greenery from the windows. The owners were very consciencious in making sure we had a contact person very close if we needed anything else (couldn't think of anything else we needed for the two weeks we stayed there). The Master Bath is to-die-for, the beds are very comfortable, the porch around the entire house was awesome to sit on in the evening and contemplate the world. Everyone needs to book this house for their stay on the "big island" of Hawai'i.

Kamuela, HIThis is the comfortable & cozy house you want to go back to.
Left on 03/22/2011 for a stay in January 2011
This beautifully decorated house has a brick fireplace that not only keeps you warm but adds that special feeling of home. The owners seem to have thought of everything from supplying flashlights for late night lava watching to luxury bedding and Kona coffee for breakfast! The hiking is fantastic and honestly how often do you get to hike around an active volcano. The yard has lush landscaping and lots of flowers and when you are on the 2nd floor every room allows you to see eye to eye with a wide variety of birds! Hale aloha gets my vote for best place to stay in Volcano.

Serene beyond description. Sublime, and restorative.
This is a sunny and beautiful 2 bdr. 2 bath private home, sumptuously decorated with a wood-burning fireplace. Fully furnished, linens & towels provided, fully equipped kitchen: you need only bring such foods as you wish. Cable TV & wireless internet included. Perfectly appointed for either a one-night or a week-long stay.
Spotlessly clean. Beautiful Gardens. Quiet, peaceful, restful. A pleasant one-mile walk to the Volcano General Store and 3 restaurants (Thai Thai restaurant is excellent).
You will love it. Hale aloha is a rare gem, lovingly maintained, and as close to the perfect vacation as I have experienced. -

Oak Park, ILThe Comforts of Home at Hand
Left on 01/21/2011 for a stay in December 2010
My teenage son and I were looking for a vacation rental home to be the base camp for our week long family vacation on the Big Island of Hawaii and we found it at Hale aloha. We arrived late on a rainy night to find that the caretaker, Joyce, had turned on the lights and laid a fire to welcome us. This cozy and beautifully maintained home is a quiet oasis with birdsong in the morning and a crackling fire at night. My son claimed the reading chair in the sunny window and spent many happy hours working his way through a stack of books. I had plenty of space to spread out my yoga mat on the floor of the family room. We ate leisurely breakfasts while looking out at the manicured jungle garden and then headed out on afternoon adventures to nearby Volcano National Park or took the longer drive into Hilo to see Rainbow Falls. We cooked dinner at home or enjoyed a fine meal out at one of the nearby restaurants in Volcano Village. In the evenings, we had family film night with Dvds rented from the local general store. Hale aloha became our home away from home. It was the perfect place to kick back with the comforts of home at hand.
