Nice cabin in Volcano village area. Open design with lots of windows. Buried in the thick forest so don't expect views.

Good proximity to volcano park. Thought it was a good value and plenty of privacy for two couples.

      Great Stay!

Left on 04/04/2013 for a stay in March 2013

We had a great time in Hale Margarita! The location is beautiful, directly in the rainforest and near to the Volcno National Park.
The house is nicely furnished and equipped with everything you need.

      Momentous

Left on 04/04/2013 for a stay in March 2013

I loved the fact that the house lay quite close to neighbors, yet had space between -- space filled with lush rain forest foliage and flowers. We had adequate room to move and eat, more than enough cutlery and dishes to fill our needs; the rooms and linens were clean. One minor complaint - the parlor stove provided little to no heat, though it did give ambiance to the setting.

Hale Margarita did not meet basic expectations

Left on 11/30/2012 for a stay in November 2012

The place is okay, very old. Our biggest challenge was that it was freezing cold and there is no heater at all. Wish we had known that earlier. The cabin was actually way cooler than outside! That really jeopardized our experience. There wasn't a single 'pot' to make anything although there were other things stocked in the kitchen. I cannot imagine anyone being able to cook without a medium pot/pan unless they brought some with them. Thankfully, we were only there for a night and were able to get by without one.

Aloha and thank you for your review. Because your satisfaction is important to us, we are always trying to improve our services and we do appreciate your input. I have passed on your concerns to the house cleaner and manager to take care of these issues.

We do wish you had addressed your concerns while you were with us, since we do have an office in Volcano with a heater available upon request. Due to high utility costs and liability issues, heaters are not supplied at our homes unless a guest requests one.

We thank you for your time and any input you can give us, and hope to welcome you again soon in one of our beautiful Big Island homes.

Cozy, super clean and dog friendly

Left on 11/30/2012 for a stay in October 2012

Nice place. Very clean and quiet neighborhood. Loved being able to bring our dog and walking into town took 20-25 minutes. The pot belly stove was great and kept us warm. Bathrooms were stocked with shampoo, conditioner and bath wash and lots of towels.

The only reason this rental did not get an excellent rating is for a few reasons:
      1. Missing some good kitchen staples such as good cutlery, kitchen towels, cookie sheet, wine opener and some cooking oil, salt and pepper.
      2. lighter for wood stove didn't work and there were no matches.
      3. I felt the rental fee was acceptable but charging a per person fee for anyone over two persons was not fair. The place can sleep 4 adults and I didn't like having to pay more.

Aloha and thank you for your review. We are glad you appreciated our Hale Margarita home, one of our top homes! Because your satisfaction is important to us, we are always trying to improve our services and would like to ask your for feedback concerning your stay.

I have forwarded your review to the house cleaner and homeowner to address your concerns about supplying more kitchen items. Homeowners are free to provide as much or little as they feel the guest needs, but we appreciate the suggestions. We do not normally provide any food such as oil, salt and pepper unless past guests decide to leave them behind.

Also I was informed the lighters have new child safety lock for your protection, so that may have been why they did not work for you. We can always replace them for you since our office is right in Volcano Village.

As for the rates, all of our homeowners charge an additional guest fee based on double occupancy to help pay for cost of utilities for extra guests. It doesn't have anything to do with the size of the home. Sometimes we are able to waive extra guests to offer a discount!

We thank you for your time and any input you can give us, and hope to welcome you again soon in one of our beautiful Big Island homes.

      Different!

Left on 10/10/2012 for a stay in August 2012

My hubby and I stayed 1 night here while visiting Kiluea.
This house has everything a couple or a family will need to live comfortably. We arrived to a clean house and great to see so many home from home facilities here. It really did have a rain forest feel to it too. I was ill when we arrived (sunstroke) and wished the fire would have been quicker to light so I could curl up on the comfy sofa. It had been raining and the logs took a long time to get going. The outside looked amazing but sadly we didn't have the time to explore before it got too dark. Torches are essential here. The artwork in this house is stunning, take time to look at it all. The reason I say different in the title is because it was my 1st time in a rain forest and my last. I am sooo afraid of critters and just did not know what could be hiding. To those more adventurous and braver than I this house is a perfect base. Mahalo for a 'different' experience.

      Charming and comfortable

Left on 10/01/2012 for a stay in September 2012

This is a terrific house to rent on the outskirts of Volcanoes National Park, which is less than 10-minute drive. The home is quaint yet spacious, and has a wonderful European lodge-style charm to it that you would probably not expect in this area. We were in a party of four, though you could probably have a family of six and still be reasonably comfortable. We appreciated having a fireplace available and made use of it on the chilly evenings! Having wireless internet is, as always, a great amenity and comes in very handy. We definitely recommend this property.

      Happy with our choice.

Left on 08/27/2012 for a stay in August 2012

To avoid a long drive at night on the way back to Waikoloa from Volcano National Park we decided to stay overnight in Volcano. We required 4 beds and decided to rent a house for the evening. The house was nice but not spectacular. Everything was clean and there was free wifi and satellite TV which meets the requirement of travelling with two teenagers. There were 2 bedrooms, a loft and a hide-a-bed in the living room so the sleeping requirements met our needs which was the most important requirement for us for a one night stay. The only oddity was the $45 cleaning fee (I'm not opposed to that)but I'm wondering what all we were paying for when there was a note that said we were responsible for washing our own dishes and taking out the trash. Overall cost for the house including the cleaning fee for 1 night was about $250, so it was still a good deal. The only negative was that the shower took forever to get warm water; 5-6 minutes.

      Peaceful escape

Left on 08/26/2012 for a stay in August 2012

We recently stayed in Hale Margarita, Volcano Hawaii. As a family with two young boys we wanted somewhere peaceful but convenient to local activities. Hale Margarita was perfect. The Volcano National Park was only 10 mins drive away. The accomodation was cosy if not a little dated. We lit the fire a couple of times in the evenings which the boys loved. My only comment would be "buy a new refrigerator" I had to scrub the old one when we arrived but the mould on the door seals and rust on the bottom were rather off putting.

My husband and I loved the house. It had all the comforts of home. We where out and about during the day and back in the house by sunset. Aloha and Mahalo for posting your review. We're glad you enjoyed the home. And we wanted to inform you that we fixed the internet/cable issue, it being just a communication issue between the homeowners in Germany and the cable company. But all is well and we issued you a 10% discount refund for the inconvenience. We hope to see you again soon!

      Some Disappointment

Left on 06/20/2012 for a stay in June 2012

I reserved Hale Margarita several months before we arrived. The house itself is beautiful, located at 4000 feet in Volcano, Hawaii. It's close to the little village there and not more than a mile from the entrance to Volcanoes National Park. The furnishing was lovely, and the kitchen was very well equipped. Also on the property was a washer and a dryer. The only negative thing was that when we arrived, we found that the cable tv and internet were not working. After a few phone calls, we were informed that the owners, who apparently live in Germany, had not paid the cable bill. This was a huge disappointment to all of us, as internet wifi was one of the main considerations when I was looking at houses to rent. The rental managers kindly gave us a 10% refund off of the rental price; however, the inconvenience cannot be compensated. I'm not exactly sure who dropped the ball on this-whether or not the owner or rental agents should make sure that services are kept current, but it certainly was a negative to us during our stay.

Beautiful! inside and out. Up to date in many ways. Only caution is that water - a lot of iron. There's a Brita filter but if you have any "sensitive" family members, please bring your own bottled water. No instructions for the WiFi, but able to contact owner via travel agent and get that worked out.
      Would stay here again.

The customer service was un matched with family like kindness. The home was so comfortable and beautiful. The location was isolated and a wonderful place to let loose and totally relax. The first house we rented had a problem with the water heater, but we were compensated with a nicer bigger house with no cost increase immediately after the problem arised.
