Terrific Place for Families and Friends!

Left on 12/11/2012 for a stay in November 2012

We enjoyed the big two bedroom unit called Sir Spencer. The unit is very well outfitted. They provide a few basic food items so you can make coffee and breakfast. The beds were exceptionally comfortable - nice after a day of hiking through the Volcano Park. The neighborhood is quiet and the house is surrounded with lovely plants, gardens, and a yard. I enjoyed sitting and dining on the big porch common in Hawaii. Everything was clean and working great. The kitchen is huge.

A place of beauty and relaxation

Left on 08/27/2012 for a stay in June 2012

We really enjoyed our stay in this lovely home. We rented both units, but used only the Sir Spencer side of the home. There are 4 people in our family, and each of us felt rested and refreshed after our stay. This unit by itself was spacious enough to provide for all of our needs. We especially enjoyed the little red bird who perched himself on the gate, and sang beautiful music to us each morning. It was especially nice to have the kitchen facilities available for cooking each day. We were able to enjoy the many fruits found at the local fruit stands, and we packed several sandwich lunches for picnics at Volcano National Park, Akaka Falls, or one of the many other beautiful island locations.

      At home in a rainforest

Left on 07/16/2012 for a stay in June 2012

Of all the things to discuss, it was really just that: attention to detail, that caught our attention when my buddy and I stayed at 5th street to explore the city of Volcano and Volcano national park (which is a must see that I could go on about). We stayed at a couple different places around the Big Island to facilitate different sightseeing, so it was easy to contrast the unique qualities of this place from other options, with both of us jokingly commenting that even the toilet paper and bath towels were nicer at 5th street than at one of the Marriott's we stayed at. True to the owner's website, you could tell that he was a traveler, because every effort was made to make us feel at home and prepared for our daily excursions, whether it was flashlights, umbrellas, park guides, and even a yoga mat for me to stretch out in the morning before a hike.

We arrived late the first night so we were obliged that the driveway had lights to guide us home. It was super easy to access the key to get in, and boy were we happy to sit in front of the fireplace and have some hot chocolate that was waiting for us to warm up (Volcano city sometimes gets chilly at night).

Although we felt like we had our own little house in the rainforest, the innkeeper, if you will, was always a cell phone call away and super helpful, so we didn't feel alone.

I love breakfast, so I relished the fact that there was juice, fresh fruit, coffee, and breakfast waiting for me in the fridge (there were some nice sweets too but I don't want to admit to eating them). The kitchen had everything we needed to try our hand at some spam and eggs, and it was clutch to have a washer and dryer handy since we were in the islands for a couple weeks and tried to pack light.

This place is special, so I've got it starred on my Google map and look forward to staying here again if I can make it back to the Big Island.
