Notes from the owners' guest book -- "What a beautiful location
We are the homeowners and we are just wrapping up a five night stay at apapane Lodge over Thanksgiving weekend. We just love it here ourselves and we are very happy to share this lovely rainforest home with people from around the world who appreciate it. It's a beautiful place, in the rainforest, surrounded by tree ferns, a short 5 minute drive to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park (my favorite hike is the 4-mile Kilauea Iki Crater loop trail. I was four when I saw that magnificent eruption!). We are a local family from Hawaii with deep roots on the Big Island and in Volcano Village. We have owned this home since 2001. Our managers are doing a very nice job keeping the place lovely. I thought I might share a few comments from the guest book that don't make it online because they are hand written. When you stay here, please do sign the guest book! We read all the comments personally.
4 October 2013, Sydney, Australia: "Love the whole rainforest lodge experience. What a wonderful surprise!"
September 2013, Holland: "We had a great time in this house. This place is amazing!"
September 2013, Riverside, California: "My family and I had a great time. What a beautiful location and a warm and welcoming house."
7 September 2013, Honolulu, Hawaii: "Apapane Lodge is the perfect getaway in the middle of paradise."
27 august 2013, Honolulu, Hawaii, and Bronxville, New York: "We all enjoyed a wonderful night here. The four kids loved the bunk room! Thank you for sharing your lovely home."
A cool rainforest surprise !
What a great surprise to find ourselves driving down a narrow track to a lovely cool rainforest lodge. What a treat to find ourselves sitting by a log fire in Hawaii!
The free wifi is always a bonus for the kids ( and us)
We stay in apapane Lodge in august/2013. Near to the National Park (few minuts in car)
Beautiful house with all comfort.
Our stay at the apapane Lodge was outstanding. The cozy lodge is very clean with plenty of room, and was centrally located near the Volcano National Park. My extended family enjoyed our adventure to the Big Island and were especially pleased with the amenities and serene atmosphere of the apapane. The coordination for the lodge and service were exceptional. We will definitely select this lodge for our next visit!
I was there with 5 more friends last May and we really loved the house.
It is beautiful and fully equipped, and it is really close to the Volcanoe's National Park. We had a wonderful stay.
We totally recommend apapane Lodge!
My favorite among many lovely homes
I cannot say enough good things about the apapane Lodge. I wish it were my own home. Every view out the windows looks like a nature painting or photograph. The cool evenings are a pleasant contrast to the usually warm, dry weather closer to the ocean. The unit was in great condition and we really enjoyed the fireplace and the full kitchen, well supplied with appliances, all in fine working condition.
There were even items to take on our adventures, like water jugs, extra towels, plastic bags, flashlights. We really appreciated the care and thoughfulness and the relaxed and accommodating attitude of the staff.
Looking forward to our next stay. Mahalo.

It was as advertised and reviewed. We were impressed with the lodging. There were no surprises. Use of the wood stove was needed to take off the dampness. The manager made sure we had dry wood and fire starters for the second day.
We would suggest bringing warm and waterproof clothing after all it is at a higher elevation and in the rainforest. Also, bring food from Kona or Hilo.Restaurant choices are very limited.
The Lava Rock Cafe served good food and was reasonably priced. The fancier place is quite expensive and the menu wouldn't be attractive to children.
It's worth renting a car to travel to Kona and Hilo. The markets at both places are worth seeing.
A wonderful mountain lodge
We had a great time at the apapane Lodge. The proximity to the Volcano National Park couldn't be better and the property is wonderful. We particularly appreciated the fireplace, full kitchen and beautiful decorations.
It was a little tricky to find, hidden as it was along some backroads only some of which were paved - but well worth looking for.
