Additional Location Information
Our neighbourhood is still part of the Centre of Amsterdam. It is a very quiet "little village" right next to the "busy' part of the city. There are still a few little shipyards but most of the wharehouses are converted into residences.
The city is more or less built in circles around the centre. We are the western part of the centre, nearby Central Station. That is at this moment I think the most popular part.
Next to our apartment lies the famous Jordaan. The Jordaan is a small part of the city, famous for the narrow streets with little shops, cafes and restaurants. We are divided from the Jordaan by a very nice shopping street. In this street there is also a big supermarket which is always open. There are shops, cafés, nice little restaurants everywhere around us.
We think Amsterdam is more a “big village”. That is, the part where you want to be as a visitor. Certainly on the bike everything is really nearby. If you want more information about the apartment and location, please visit our website www.thewharfhouse.nl The address is Prinseneiland 10, Amsterdam if you want to look it up on Google Maps. The street view is still from the period we were building, a few years ago.
Walking distance to the Central Station 10 minutes, Jordaan 5 minutes, Dam 17 minutes and Van Gogh 30 minutes.
If you want to explore more of the city we have bikes and there are trams and buses to all parts of the city at a 4-minute walk. Apart from the general maps that we provide, we also made a map of our neighbourhood. A selection of breakfast-/lunch-places/restaurants/supermarkets is pointed out on this map.
Don’t hesitate to call or email us if there are more questions.

Edmonton, Alberta, CanadaA quiet oasis in central amsterdam
Left on 05/15/2013 for a stay in April 2013
The Boat House was a perfect place for our first trip to amsterdam. Its central location was easily accessed by foot even for my senior parents. Banks, restaurants and grocery stores are close by on Haarlemer Straat. The museums are an easy tram ride away. The Boat House has two fabulously comfortable king sized beds in bedrooms on the main floor overlooking the canal. You can see boats float by from the bedroom windows! Up the stairs is the fully equipped kitchen and comfortable living area. There were even some treats waiting for us in the kitchen! Leisbeth and Wouter went out of their way to make sure that we were well looked after during our stay. The apartment was spotless and well maintained. I would definitely recommend the Boat House as the perfect place to stay in amsterdam!

We stayed here with our two teenage children for a long weekend and were totally impressed with the Boat House, the owners, and the location.
The house is modern, clean, and beautiful with all the comforts of home, lovely views from the huge windows, lovely bedrooms, all spotlessly clean and well furnished, and with very good kitchen facilities. A generous welcome pack of snacks was a most welcome surprise.
The neighbourhood is really pleasant - quiet, mainly residential and with a couple of good restaurants / cafes, and made for lovely evening strolls. It's also very convenient to get to and from the station, and the local shops, a short walk or cycle away.
The owners live next door, met us when we arrived and were really helpful and friendly. We hired bicycles from the owners who only charged for the days we used them - another sign of their great approach and attitude.
We've stayed in several self-catering units for city breaks in the last couple of years and all voted this the best, by a long way. Superb!!

My husband and I loved our stay at The Wharfhouse. The apartment is light and airy, well appointed and pristine. It is in a village style setting just a short walk from Central Station and many of this city's delights. The managers are just wonderful. We had a seamless check in. The apartment had fresh flowers, assortments of beverages (including wine) Dutch biscuits and breakfast spreads. Two local restaurants worth checking out are 'Worst' and 'Couscousine'. There is a brilliant market on Sundays at Westerpark. The Wharfhouse is by far the best place we have stayed whilst in Holland!
