Description from the owner
Hawaii’s Best Kept Secret: Our cottage is right on the beach, and next door to a mile of deserted beaches, where you’ll discover isolated sandy coves, driftwood, shells, and forested pastures filled with horses. The ocean is excellent for snorkeling and spear fishing; there are two un-crowded surf breaks within one mile, windsurfers are blessed with wind almost every afternoon, and the mountains behind the cottage offer good hiking trails. The Colony has a nice pool, a tennis court, and there is a golf fairway in the middle of the property where you can practice your chipping. Bring your favorite books! Danville VirginiaThe sound of the waves, right outside your door, are like a lull
Left on 02/20/2013 for a stay in January 2013
We had a "rough time" getting here (mechanical problems with the plane, canceled flight, etc.) but the cottage soothed our tired souls! We found the drum of the waves to be the best lullaby and the fresh air and abundant sunshine to renew our spirits.
We appreciated the personal art on the walls and the large open space. For folks who enjoy cooking with local produce, the well stocked kitchen, the large number of pots/pans/utensils, and the full sized refrigerator are perfect. There was plenty of hot water in the shower (and good water pressure!), the furniture was comfortable (brought back memories of beach houses from our childhood), and the large counter surface in the "dressing room" was perfect for all of our "stuff". We used the outdoor patio table for several breakfasts and dinners, watched a neighbor vacationer fish from the sea wall, and took daily walks on the nearly deserted beach. There were many informative books in the cottage along with maps, Dvds, etc. We used the guide books but were too busy enjoying Oahu to need any other form of entertainment!
Although we have traveled extensively in the past few years, this was our first trip to Hawaii. We have already recommended the cottage to family and friends - thank you, Peter, for sharing your wonderful home.

Buffalo Grove, IllinoisReal Hawaiian Paradise

I agree with hesitating to review this place. I don't want to spoil the area! This was our first trip to Hawaii and we are not resort people. My husband and I always try to find somewhere different to stay away from the busloads of tourists and the traps that suck you in. Oahu is crowded with traffic and tourists, but this cottage is a sanctuary in the much less traveled town of Mokuleia. It's hard to find and easily passed by, which was exactly why I picked it! The grounds were lush and scented with flowers, the cottage is right on and practically in the water. Clean and tastefully decorated. It could use a kitchen and bath update, but this was of no concern to us. If you like shiny and perfect, don't stay here. If you like laid back and comfortable don't hesitate for a second. Paradise is right out your door! Drive to the end of the road and hike for hours, watch skydivers at the airport(or skydive yourself if thats your thing!), turtles muching on seaweed, and endless beach. Great friendly neighbors too!
We had 3 free nights in Waikiki after we left Mokuleia and it was such a letdown after staying here!

We enjoyed the cottage and grounds very much, and will go back as soon as possible.
Owner, Manager and staff all great to work with, all quite helpful.
Location and beach are hard to beat. The cottage is right on the ocean, with a long beautiful beach adjacent to the grounds, pretty much deserted. We never walked the full beach-it's just too long. :)
Overall very quiet, romantic, tranquil.
I've been to many beach rentals around O'ahu and this cottage definitely stands out for value, amenities and location.
Enjoy. Aloha. -

I hesitate to write a glowing review because I would really like to keep this place a secret. Our daughter lives on the North Shore and we have been renting vacation condos there for over 10 years. This year, we were having difficulty finding a place in Haleiwa and expanded our search to the surrounding areas. We found this jewel and will never stay anywhere else again. It's right on the beach - any closer and you'd be wet. Sitting on the patio you can watch the whales passing by during migrating seasons. It's quiet and perfect for two people. The owner even met us at the airport when we arrived. Not sure if he does that all the time, but it was a very nice touch. If you are looking for night life and crowded beaches, bars and restaurants - this is not the place.
