What's Nearby:
Additional Location Information
The Bird Cage is located on Kapahulu Avenue which is on the quiet end of Waikiki. This is where the hotels end and expansive Kapiolani Park begins. The beach is 30 steps away from the building. When you want to be in the thick of the action in Waikiki - it's a short walk down Kalakaua Avenue. All major bus routes pass by the condo which makes it easy to travel to visitor sites a little farther away - like Pearl Harbor, Iolani Palace, Hanauma Bay or Diamond Head State Park.
If you rent a car, being on the end of Waikiki makes access to the freeway, and the rest of the island, is much easier than if you are in the middle of it. The condo does not have a parking space, but spaces can be rented directly from building management for $17/day - although most guests with cars have used another lot which is a block away and only charges $10/day.

We had such an amazing time at this Waikiki condo. Considering we live on a farm we were unsure of staying in such a busy city. However this condo is in the perfect location with great views and wide open spaces. So close to a great beach and a relaxing swim. If we ever come back to Waikiki then we would definitely want to stay here again. In fact, if I were going to buy real estate in Waikiki I would buy at the Waikiki Grand Hotel/Condos. Super hospitality and security.

The condo was wonderful, clean, very comfortable, just steps from the beach... just perfect! We tried the famous malasadas at Leonard's bakery (yummy!) and followed all Kevin's advice as regards pubs and restaurants! He sent us a digital Waikiki map with useful information and activities recommendations. Thanks for that! As regards Hawaii... we cannot put it in words, we just want to come back :)

Thank you for your positive review. We appreciate your staying at the Bird Cage, and glad to hear you appreciated our little condo - we've worked hard on it to make sure it's a good deal for visitors traveling to Oahu. We couldn't agree more that the location, just steps from the beach can't be beat. The map we send guests is just a small way to help share some of our favorite things to do around Waikiki and on the island, and it's nice to hear you agreed with Leonard's malasadas! Please come back soon.

The Bird Cage's location at the quiet end of Waikiki, in the Grand, is perfect...close to the beach, restaurants, buses, steps from Waikiki's madness, and a short stumble from Hula's. The suite is modest, but comfortable for two people. The kitchen is well-equipped and has everything you need to make breakie or a maitai. Our host, Kevin was helpful, communicative, reliable and a pleasure to deal with.

We're always glad to hear that our guests have enjoyed their stay at the Bird Cage. Obviously we're a bit biased, but we agree the location is an ideal one because you're clearly in Waikiki, but not in the middle of high-rise hotels, crowds and traffic... yet you are still steps from the beach.
Thanks for coming to stay with us, and we hope to welcome you back! -

VancouverAn apartment with an amazing location and everything you'll need
Left on 01/25/2012 for a stay in January 2012
My hubby and I stayed at the Bird Cage for 11 days/10 nights for our honey moon. We loved it!
The goods:
- amazing location: The birdcage is literally 20 seconds walk to the beach. It is located right next to the Zoo, which is nice because there is less people traffic than in the middle of all the shops and big hotels. Waikiki beach is not huge so it will never take us more than 5-15 min to get to any restaurant or shop.
- well Equiped: The apartment had everything you'll need: from straw hats, umbrella, beach chairs, body boards, to laundry detergent, towels, etc.
- nicely decorated: It has a nice hawaiian decor with vivid colors and nice furniture. It was very clean and roomy.
- outstanding service: Kevin was a great host. All communications were prompt and all information provided was super useful. Very corteous and friendly. To our surprise, we found a welcome card in our suite with a fresh pinapple upon our arrival. Great customer service for sure!
- great patio on 10th floor: My hubby and I enjoyed drinks and dinner at the patio (drinks and food brought from our suite). This patio has an amazing view of Diamond head and part of waikiki beach. It was nice and relaxing...!
The only not-so-good thing was the garbage truck every morning. The suite faces the back entrance to the hotel where the garbage trucks picks the garbage every morning between 7:00-7:30am. It is loud, so it will wake you up if you are not already up.
Overall, We absolutely loved it and we would come back to the birdcage on a heartbeat! Thank you Kevin for the outstanding customer service, you have a lovely suite!

We're always glad to hear that guests have had a good time staying at the Bird Cage. Happy to hear you agree that the condo's location is second to none. With the beach just a few steps away, and Diamond Head seemingly within an arm's reach on the roof deck - not many other places in Waikiki can compare. Now, if we could just get the garbage guys to have silent trucks! Sorry, we're working on that.
Hawaii is a very special place, and we like sharing it with visitors. We look forward to welcoming you back to the islands some day soon. -

The condo is clean, neat and well kept. The location is great. Across the street from the Honolulu Zoo just steps from Waikiki beach. Kevin is super. He answered all our questions and gave us all the info we needed to help make our stay enjoyable. Whether you're a shopper or browser, there are many great shops as well as local vendors. We enjoyed the liveliness of the area, the shops, dining out, the street entertainers at night, the beach...we had a great time. Thanks Kevin

Walking distance to everything and a few steps to the bus that can get you anywhere! We enjoyed a week's stay at the "Birdcage" and enjoyed the area. For the price you can't beat it. Even a co-worker of mine, who was once a travel agent, was surprised at the price. I have to admit that the alley is noisey at night so I suggest you bring earplugs or have a cocktail before trying to sleep. The beach is 2 blocks and we saw as many fish snorkling there as at Hanauma Bay. The kitchen is a little small but with all the great places to eat, who wants to bother cooking anyways!?! Diamond Head is less than 10 minutes bus ride. Kevin was awesome to work with. He even provided a custom map with points of interest. Thanks Kevin for sharing your great space with us at a price that made it possible for us to have a dream vacation!

It's always gratifying to hear guests have had a good time in Hawaii, and that staying in our condo has been part of that. There is a lot more to do in Waikiki and on Oahu than the usual touristy stuff (but there's nothing wrong with that!) and I'm glad to share what I know. Yes, the side street can be noisy, and the building is working on refitting the windows for better soundproofing, but in the mean time we're trying to always make sure earplugs are available to minimize the sounds.
Thanks Amanda - hope to welcome you back to the islands soon!

We stayed at the Bird Cage for 7 days in late august/early September and had a wonderful time. Kevin is a legend to deal with, he was uber helpful in letting us know about everything we would need to know regarding the local scene and then some. Our only tip is a repeat of others - if you like your sleep ins in the morning the loud drawn out trash removal concerto between 6-8am is always a bit of a pain, but if you beat it out of bed and up to the 10th floor balcony for your breakfast facing the ocean and Diamond head - there's really no other place to be and nothing much to complain about! We had most of our dinners and breakfasts up there and loved it. Look forward to heading back there soon one day! Ps if you need a massage the second floor $65 deal was worth $85!! Ask for Nishi and the maitais are a.O.K at the bar also on the second floor ;)

The location of the Bird Cage was perfect, literally a half a block from the beach and right across Kapahulu from the Honolulu Zoo and Kapiolani Park. It was very clean, Kevin had provided us with boogie boards, beach towels, umbrellas. The only thing missing was the snorkeling gear for snorkeling on the reef across from the zoo!
Parking was pretty easy, we ended up parking at the Waikiki Banyan just up the road for $60 a week, it took about 5 minutes to walk there from the condo. Do not try to park in the garage for the hotel/condo. It's a hot mess to get in and out of, I think I ended up doing about a 10 point turn to get out of a parking spot and we were in a midsize sedan.
The deck on the 10th floor was beautiful, views of Diamond Head, the Zoo and Waikiki.
The only downside, which was ok for us but might be a bummer for others was that the trash trucks come down the road on Lemon, the road straight below your windows that you'll probably have open to get the cool mountain breezes, at 6:30 about every morning. We're earlier risers but if a person wanted to sleep it that could be a little upsetting.
This was my first trip to the island and the Bird Cage was a great intro to Waikiki , if we come back to vacation on Oahu again I would rebook the Bird Cage!! -

Left on 03/16/2011 for a stay in January 2011
The Birdcage had everything we needed...Towels, beach chairs, boards, mats...great! The condo's boutique feel was most comfortable, the decoration was chic and it was sparkling clean. The hotel was secure, very clean and well maintained. The location is second to none for the beach, the Bus and Waikiki itself! Cannot praise Kevin enough. He was attentive and on the ball! We stayed for 4 weeks and we would both go back tomorrow!
