We, a family of 2 adults and 2 kids aged 13 and 17, had a lovely vacation at Open Palms. The house was charming and gave us plenty of space. The garden was a paradise, and Kitty a very friendly and helpful owner. We also found the location more than perfect - lovely countryside with almost empty beach just minutres away - and still a good base for exploring all of Oahu. Perfect!

Hamburg, GermanyGroĂartiges, alleinstehendes "Guest House" im Tropenparadies
Left on 03/14/2013 for a stay in February 2013

When we knew we were going to vacation in Hawaii we thought we would probably get a beach house overlooking the ocean but made a decision to try something different. We chose the Open Palms and was so delighted with the accomodations, the host and the amazing view from the comfortable king bed of the mountains! The studio apartment was attached from the main home and just perfect for 2 people. We loved the location and thought the nearby beaches were the best in all of Oahu. We stayed 5 nights and then went to Turtle Bay for the remainder of our vacation. Both of us decided that the next time we go to Oahu we will stay the entire time at the Open Palms. We loved the quiet, private feeling of Open Palms rather than a busy resort. Our host was friendly and knowledgeable and very accomodating but also gave us our privacy which we loved! Thank you Kitty for a vacation we will never forget and thank you for having such a beautiful place for people to come and enjoy!

We recently returned from a 17 day visit to Oahu, having spent the first week at Open Palms Plantation and the remainder of our vacation divided between hotels in Honolulu and Waikiki Beach.
Our week at Open Palms was wonderful. We were welcomed by Kitty, the owner, who made us feel very much at home.
The guest accommodation was clean and comfortable, with everything we needed for a relaxing stay. It took us over 23 hours to reach Hawaii from our home in Scotland and we expected it would take us a couple of days to recover but we felt so at home we settled in right away and used Open Palms as a great base to explore parts of the island we would never have seen had we spent the whole of our vacation in Waikiki.
Nearby Kailua has great beaches and some good, quirky independent shops - a nice contrast to the high end chains of Waikiki - and a great Whole Foods Market.
When we arranged our Hawaii vacation we hoped it would be the vacation of a lifetime; Kitty and Open Palms played a huge part in making it just that. We would love to return and hope to do so just as soon as we can.

This truly is a slice of heaven! The place was just as advertised--actually better. We fell in love with it the moment we drove onto Kitty's property. Our entire experience was so relaxing, so beautiful, and so peaceful. We had a private deck which we loved eating our breakfasts on in the morning and enjoying a drink at night. The room/kitchen/bathroom were all extremely clean and welcoming. We found an amazing hike that was only a few minute drive from the property. It is also extremely close to the fabulous Lanikai beach. We truly fell in love with this place, and it was so difficult to leave/move onto another part of the island when our time here was up. We are excited for the next time we can come to stay! On another note, Kitty was unbelievably kind, welcoming, and super helpful with everything we needed/had questions on.

PennsylvaniaBest Place to Stay in Oahu!
Left on 11/03/2012 for a stay in October 2012
I was very unsure about where to stay on our first trip to Hawaii, and am mostly familiar with hotels or B&B;'s where friends or relatives had stayed previously when I travel. I also rely heavily on others' reviews. So I was extensively researching places to stay on Oahu, and something kept bringing me back to Open Palms. I can't recommend it enough, I would never hesitate to stay here, or to have my friends and relatives stay here, it was such a wonderful experience and I really feel that I'm ruined for staying in other places!
There were just 2 of us, so Kitty set up the guest house for us, which has a huge deck facing the mountains and the horses are kept in a barn/pasture right in front of it. She was amazing in her communications with me ahead of time, and she sent me pictures of the inside of the guest house. First of all, the pictures were incredible, but the place is a hundred times better. It was immaculately clean, had a full kitchen where we cooked every day, a very comfortable king size bed, and a large bathroom with a full bathtub. Everything we needed was in the guest house, but if we had needed anything else, the main house is very close by and she made it clear that we were welcome to whatever else we might need, including the washer and dryer that were available. There were also boogie boards, beach chairs, plenty of towels, etc for the beach if needed.
In the mornings we sat on the deck and watched the pink clouds from the sunrise sitting on the mountains, while listening to the wildlife and drinking our coffee. We used the grill on the deck for dinners, and watched the horses play while we ate, it was so peaceful here. The location was perfect, peaceful yet a perfect launch point to go anywhere on the island, the airport was about 25 minutes away, Waikiki maybe 20 minutes, the north shore about 45 minutes, depending on traffic, and the Polynesian Cultural Center about an hour and 15 minutes away. So there was a lot to do yet we were in a place where we could be anywhere on the island we wanted to go, it's fairly centrally located. Wainmanalo Beach, about 10 minutes away, which was recommended by Kitty's granddaughter, was a beautiful beach that wasn't too crowded and the waves were calm for swimming. We also saw sea turtles swimming in the water, it was definitely my favorite beach. For the animal lovers, there is also a young Golden Retriever, Hunter, who is very friendly and completely adorable!
Mahalo a thousand times Kitty!!! I would never stay anywhere else on Oahu! -

We enjoyed very much staying at the Open Palms for one week with our 8 year-old son. The owner kindly welcomed us in the evening, despite our late arrival. The home was very comfortable with lots of space and all amenities that we needed. This is a very quiet, wonderful place for enjoying vacations. The superb Waimanalo beach is at 10 minutes.

My family and I made memories to last a lifetime at Open Palms Plantation. During our eight day stay, Kitty made us feel like family. We came for a relaxing vacation and that is exactly what we got. We explored the less populated places on the island which are so very beautiful. But as I told Kitty, her place is probably the most beautiful on the island. A true oasis! You cannot go wrong with this rental. The accommodations are very comfortable with everything you need to enjoy your stay. From excellent sleeping arrangements to a fully functional kitchen to everything you need for the beach. Nearby beaches are spectacular and not at all crowded. In fact, many times we were the only ones there.
As far as service, we cannot say enough. My husband lost his phone on the last day of our trip. Kitty went out of her way to locate it and send it to us. So as you can see, she goes over and beyond for her guests. That is what we here in alabama call Southern Hospitality!
Mahalo! (Thank You) -

Wow!! Having read all the 5-star reviews of this property, I was wondering if this place could possibly be as good as all the glowing comments suggest. It absolutely is. The location is stunning, it makes me wistful thinking about it now that we're back in cold Melbourne, Australia after our holiday. And Kitty really is the most amazing host: always available for a chat and to fuss over our children and let them pat her lovely dog Hunter, but never imposing on our holiday. Our two boys are 3 1/2 and 2, and this place was absolutely perfect for them, as well as for my husband and me. I've never stayed at a more relaxing place, and we have stayed at plenty of B+Bs in various parts of the world.
When we were going though customs and said we were staying in Waimanalo we got several looks as if it was an odd choice. But we loved it. The town of Kailua was so close, and Kailua and Waimanalo were home to the most stunning beaches I've seen.
Truly a 5-star stay - thank you so much Kitty - and we hope you enjoyed your time in asia with your daughter.
Sorry for taking so long to write our review - we're back at work and have got busy again - would love to click my fingers and be back at Open Palms relaxing at your beautiful property.

Left on 03/20/2012 for a stay in February 2012
My boyfriend and I stayed here for 6 nights and we couldn't have been happier with our choice.
Kitty is a fabulous host; she offered us the guesthouse (which is separate to the main house) which provides a little more privacy whilst still including access to all the facilities that are available if we were staying in the main house.
Kitty has truly thought of everything, the guesthouse is fully S/C with extra (bath and beach) towels; outdoor furniture and a bbq on the balcony; A/C; laundry; beach and snorkelling equipment and she even let us borrow her bikes to cycle to the beach.
The windward side of the island is completely different (ie/ relaxed!) to what you see/feel in Waikiki/Honolulu and Kitty certain offers an oasis of serenity; located snugly between the mountains (fantastic views) and two sensational beaches (only a short drive or cycle away).
You couldn't ask for a better place to escape and just relax...
We would definitely stay here again -

So glad we found this property on the Windward side. Everything was provided right down to snorkel gear! Near to 2 lovely beach areas and plenty of non-commercial places to eat and drink. After the crowds of Honolulu this was a relaxing treat!
Kitty was a great host and very knowledgeable about the island - thanks to her we found a beach with many sea turtles!

The owner, Kitty, has truly named this what it is - a slice of heaven in Paradise. My mom & I stayed here (in the guest quarters attached to the house) for 5 days in Jan '12 and I've been telling everyone about it since I got back. Absolutely beautiful property, peaceful, 5 minutes from the most gorgeous beaches on the island, as well as the town of Waimanalo. There are even doves that come & eat out of your hands if you care to feed them! Kitty has thought of everything for her guests & goes out of her way to make sure that you are comfortable and have everything you need. We could have shown up in a t-shirt and shorts & still had everything we needed for our stay - there was beach gear, incl. beach towels, snorkel gear, fully stocked bathroom, fully stocked kitchen, books & maps about Hawaii, suggestions on great restaurants, beaches & activities - you name it, she had it for you. The inside was beautifully furnished, extremely spacious, open and welcoming and had it's own entrance, as well as it's own patio & BBQ area. There is also a separate guest cottage on the property as well that has all of these things. Kitty is so wonderful & personable - our only regret is that we were so busy, we didn't get a chance to stay and socialize with her more. This is such a great place to come and unwind and relax and I will absolutely stay here on any return trip to Oahu in the future.

Left on 01/16/2012 for a stay in January 2012
Thanks to Kitty and her attention to every detail, we had the most amazing stay in Hawaii. The apartment is gorgeous and had everything we could possibly need. Waking up to the beautiful sounds of birds and the occasional wild rooster was incredibly relaxing, and we loved swinging in the front yard, walking down to see the horses, and roasting marshmallows at the bonfire. The location of Open Palms is ideal...tucked away on a quiet road and within 10 minutes driving to many gorgeous beaches. We loved waimanalo beach park, lanikai, and Kailua beach park. Just a few minutes more down the gorgeous coast and we were at Sea Life Park, Sandy Beach, and Diamond Head. And of course, Waikiki and Honolulu City are only 45 minutes away.
Why would you stay anywhere else? We have promised ourselves we will make it back to Kitty's slice of heaven in paradise!
This is the perfect place for couples, singles, or families with children. Our ten year old fell in love with Open Palms, Kitty, and her puppy Hunter...and so did we. Thank you Kitty! -

We had such a good time at Kitty's beautiful Open Palms Plantation. Close to the mountains, close to our favorite beaches, close to Kailua, close to everything but out in the country. As an extra bonus, the little grocery store down the street has Roselani ice cream. We stocked the freezer and had some every night.

This place is a fantastic place to stay if you are looking at getting away from the hustle and bustle of Waikiki!! The grounds are beautiful! I love the natural beauty of Open Palms and can't wait to come back again. The accomodations were clean and very comfortable. Kitty was an exceptional hostess with tons of knowledge and suggestions for anything that you might be looking at doing while you are there. The location is perfect...close to pretty much everything but removed enough that you feel like this is your own slice of paradise! Again, this is a place that is a rarity when it comes to seeing the natural beauty of the island. I highly recommend staying here and can't wait to get back.

This is such a georgous place. I was tired of the crowded, and over priced touristy places. Open Palms Plantations was exactly what I visioned. Well actually it was more than I could imagine. Its very private quiet, and serene. One of my rare vacations where I actually returned home revitalized and rested!
There is so many places to check out on this side of the island like Lanikain beach. My Fav. This is rated as one of the top 10 beaches and no wonder. I have never seen sand that is so white, fine, and powdery, so check it out it's a "must do."
Kitty is the sweetest, no wonder she has tame doves and the peacock that roams around is really cool.
well anyway love this place and hope to make it back soon.

I have loved Hawaii since the first time I visited over 30 years ago. I had the good fortune to visit with a friend who was a Hawaii native. I was given the opportunity to see Oahu beyond the well known Waikiki Beach.
When I found Open Palms Plantation, once again I felt like I was getting to enjoy Oahu as a native. When you drive down the long driveway, you feel like you are entering a beautiful postcard. But every day when you wake up, it gets even better. The postcard begins to come to life and you are a part of it. You get to pet
the horse that is grazing in the pasture, there are beautiful white doves that eat from your hand, and a peacock comes at dinner time hoping to be feed. After coming home from the beautiful neighborhood beaches you can have a BBQ on the patio while looking out at the magnificent mountain range.
The accommodations are exceptional. The rooms are clean and comfortable. The owner goes out of her way to provide amenities that make you feel at home and save you money. She provides a full kitchen, laundry facilities, towels, boogie boards, and snorkeling equipment. She also provides suggestions of places
of interest, directions to get there, and anything she can do to make your stay as memorable as possible.
If I had come by myself, I probably would have stayed all day on the premises enjoying the scenery and imagining that this was my own home in paradise. However I had my grandson with me and he wanted to go exploring. Open Palms is centrally located on the island and has easy access to get to many places of interest. Fortunately for me, we found great beaches within a few miles of the plantation and many days were spent relaxing on the uncrowded sands while eating some of the local food. But when we did go sightseeing, it was so nice to get back to such a relaxing property. Many times, it was the perfect end to a great day when I got to drive down the driveway to once again become part of a picturesque postcard. -
