Location you ask? We are 4 miles to the beginning of the Napali Coast. 5 miles to Hanalei Town. 1 1/4 miles to the beaches, and zero miles to Shangri-La.

In January I spent 4 days at Ivy's Place with a friend, and the experience was magical. You drive north from Hanalei on the way to Ke'e Beach, across several bridges, and there's the left turn up Powerhouse Road. A mile up the road towards the mountains, and you find Ivy's. As the other reviewer said, it's exactly as described and by the pictures. I loved the wrap around porch, the well-stocked kitchen, the view of the mountains.
Lemon, tangerine, avocado and passionfruit trees are growing around the home. Ziggy the cow who thinks she's a dog, and Iggy the dog will greet you when you get back to the house after spending the day at Tunnels or at Tahiti Nui in Hanalei. You're not far from either.
And Brysome is the perfect host; there when he's needed, but providing you the privacy you wish. I'll return as soon as I can. -

Spent 4 nights here and really feel like we've had an actual restful vacation, away from it all, in a lush tropical retreat. Ivy's Place is for you if you're looking for quiet, peace, space and remoteness (although in reality, it is only a 5.5 mile/10minute drive to busy Hanalei or turn the other direction and it's a few miles to Tunnels Beach maxing out at 4 miles to "end of the road" Ke'e Beach and Limahuli Garden and Preserve). This place is a get-away retreat perched on a bucolic hillside deep in lush Wainiha valley (North Shore of Kauai).
House is very clean, well maintained and very well stocked with cookware, utensils and basic appliances. There's even coolers and beach toys. If you come from the Lihue airport, a groceries & supplies stop at Costco would allow you to never leave the cottage once you arrive. The spacious 2 bedroom plantation-style cottage is situated on 13 acres. There are accurate pictures on their website at ivysplace.com. We also utilized the optional, attached studio that provided an extra double bed, sitting area and full bath.
One of the best features is the nice sized covered deck that showcases an elevated 180 degree view up and down the valley. You can just make out the ocean looking at the mouth of the valley but it is accurately described as a secluded mountain retreat. I was most impressed at the saturation of colors of surrounding mountains that make up the walls of the valley. Watching the full moon rise above the ridge of the mountains was breathtaking.
Brysone and Kathy were perfect hosts. Long time island residents, they were very friendly, knowledgeable of the area, and very accessible if you like (or not if you're into seclusion). "Residents" Ziggy the dog and Izzy the cow were also great to get to know and spend time with -but again, only if you want.
