Buchanan Lodge is situated on 60 acres of land designated as an area of outstanding natural beauty. It is beautifully secluded - 30 mins outside Wanaka. The garden leads down to the lake where there is a delightful pebble beach. The lodge sleeps 9 people upstairs (2 doubles, 2 twins and 1 single), and has 3 modern bathrooms (2 ensuite with the doubles and 1 family bathroom shared between the twin rooms and the single room). Buchanan Lodge is what most people dream of when they think of "getting away from it all". It is in a stunning location, surrounded on all sides by majestical scenery, without another house in sight. Although it feels a million miles from civilisation, it is in fact only 20 minutes outside Wanaka town, so easy to access shops, wineries etc. Treble Cone ski field is only a few kms away - so you can be the first on the slopes to catch the powder in the morning, and an easy hop home to a roaring log fire at the end of the day. In summer, you have your own private beaches at the end of the lawn. Helicopters can be arranged to pick you up from the lawn and take you on a scenic flight to Mt Aspiring or Milford Sound or heli-skiing in winter. There is ample parking at the lodge.

Our group loved every minute of our stay at Buchanan Lodge lasy year, we'll be back for sure. It's a bit out of town, but that suited us fine. The views are spectacular, Treble Cone is just up the road and fishing was good too. The hot tub can be a bit tricky to get to work properly, but once it's hot it's an awesome way to recover from a big day on the slopes.
We've rented houses in the region on a numerous occasions and this was by far the best we've experienced.
