Lovely apartment in the countryside near Edam, only 15 miles from Amsterdam!
This luxury large apartment is beautiful located in the countryside near Edam, an old "cheese" town, with views on the lake and 'polders'. There is a quiet beach where you can swim in the lake. The apartment has a big terrace to dine outside. There are lots of opportunities to explore the countryside. Besides Edam and Amsterdam there are a lot of interesting places nearby s.a. We have three apartments for rent about 15 miles above Amsterdam. In the beautiful countryside right at the IJsselmeer (lake), one large luxury and a small apartment and one in the hostorical centre of Edam..
Everyone who likes to be in the countryside and at the same time near Amsterdam and many other interesting places in Holland will enjoy this place.
This is a very beautiful place for a honeymoon, a wedding anniversary, for writing, for reading a good book (books available too in different languages!)
but if you like to be more active: there are lots of opportunities to explore the countryside by foot, bicycle or by car.
It is a great place for bird watching and if you like horses you can watch the neighbor training his horses at sunset.
Besides Edam and Amsterdam there are lots of interesting places nearby, like all the historical fisherman's places around the lake, Volendam, Hoorn, Enkhuizen etc.
You can make daytrips to the North Sea, to the bulb fields or Keukenhof to see the tulips in full bloom (April), Friesland and Hindelopen.
The area is very safe and we have a place to park your car.

If you have ever wanted to try life in a tower, stay here. The third floor bedroom has windows on all four sides with fantastic views and lots of clean breezes rushing through. The high ceiling makes it even airer.
From the second floor, you can enjoy vistas of horses and cows and canals. This is big sky country with clouds racing overhead and green fields below. A neighboring farmer trains horses. The kitchen and living room are on this level, so we did most of our living here. The kitchen is fine for stovetop cooking, but the oven seems microwave.
Ground floor has a private bathroom that was much appreciated as well as a sauna that leads to a patio with a hot tub. One fine night, we had dinner on the patio.
To sum up, this place has many positives. The setting and nice architecture, as mentioned before. Also, the owners are genial and interesting, directors of a local theatre group. They picked us up at the Edam bus station and provided us with a bit of starter food which was helpful. We got around on bikes which they provided. We purchased most of our food in Edam at the local small shops. One evening when we were out on the patio, we had some conversations (in English). Otherwise, they were either at work or invisible. If you want proximity to amsterdam, it is a twenty minute bus ride from Edam.
Drawbacks: My husband did not like the bathroom that joined the bedroom because it didn't feel private enough. He used the first floor bathoom.I didn't mind, and liked the big bathtub. This place has lots of stairs, as do most places in Holland. If stairs are a problem, stay away. If you rent the extra apt, as we did for our friend who was traveling with us, it is older and does not have the light, airy feeling. She spent most of her time in the nicer apt with us. Finally, it rained and stormed most days of our visit in late June. I think it was abnormal, but maybe this part of Holland has terrible weather. Hard to say. -

We've been renting houses when on vacation for six years or so, and Country and Lake remains one of our all time favorites. The home is extremely comfortable. The views of the surrounding countryside are wonderful. It was peaceful and relaxing, yet still easy to get to places like Edam, Hoorn and amsterdam. We cycled on many of the days and Country and Lake's location relative to the cycling routes was great. Saskia and Onny are wonderful hosts. Highly, highly recommend.

Fabulous stay - what a wonderful rental, with many useful amenities. Even bikes to ride into Edam! You get the country feel, with water access (you can even view it from the bedroom on the top floor) Peaceful. Have already recommended this place to others. Top notch, A+++
