This cottage was well placed to explore the wonderful county of Northumberland - there is plenty to do and great country to explore. You do have to be prepared to get in the car and drive as not so much is within walking distance from the cottage.
Our hosts were interesting and informative and concerned that we should be comfortable. -

The cottage is located in beautiful Northumberland and was a very convenient base for visiting the area. The cottage was spotlessly clean and homely. The kitchen was well equipped and the garden was stunning. Overall I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the cottage and would highly recommend to anyone wishing to visit this area.

The owners of the property were very helpful and friendly. The home was very clean and well presented. The garden setting was terrific with a variety of wild life visiting it. Shops and very good pub food within a five minute drive.
The general countryside around the area is lovely with beaches, seaside villages and historic sites that are well worth visiting. -

Just back after staying for a week in Swallows cottage, what a beautiful place to stay. The cottage was really clean & Pauline was very friendly & informative when we arrived.
We were well prepared when we arrived but thought the complimentary tea/coffee tray was a great idea & the bottle of wine in the fridge chilling just makes you think they have thought about the little things that make a difference.
The kitchen had everything we needed for a self catering holiday, even the knives were sharp !
All in all a very enjoyable stay, cant wait to return. -

The cottage was of very high quality and immaculately maintained. It offered all the amenities one could expect including a nice garden and patio. It is situated within easy driving distance of most of the major tourist attractions, including alnwick castle and gardens,Warkworth castle etc.Within a short distance there is a pub with a first class restaurant. The owners of the property are a delightful couple, very friendly and helpful. They live just a short distance away and are always at hand to answer any queries should any arise. One minor criticism is the TV which would benefit from having a bigger screen.

Both cottage and owners excellent. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay - great position for touring the Northumbrian coast.
Watching the swallows flying in and out of the barn next door was most enjoyable.
We would recommend this cottage whole heartedly! -

very friendly hosts, good welcome, there if you needed them with good local knowledge. 2 of use spent a week in the bungalow, lots of space, comfortable and clean. good kitchen although we did use some good eating places within 20 min drive.Own transport essential as location is a couple of miles out of the nearest village.
Friendly chickens on site, location quiet, semi private garden to use. Good for getting to the coast, national trust properties in the area, good gentle walks and the cheviots nearby.
nothing we didn't like. -

Saffron Walden, Essex. What a wonderful place.
Left on 12/19/2009 for a stay in August 2009
The bungalow was brilliant. Peaceful in the middle of fields, just countryside noises. The location is very near to lots of places on interest, including Warkworth Castle, Holy Island, Sunderland, Newcastle. The welcome was great, a tray for tea or coffee laid out including milk, with a bottle of wine in the fridge if required.
My only comment would be there was no filled salt and pepper pot (very minor, but annoying just the same). We would certainly go back again if revisitng the area. -

The cottage was very comfortable and well equipped and the welcome given by the owners on arrival, was second to none. Throughout our visit the owners could not have been more pleasant and helpful. The area is very beautiful with many places of interest to visit, including country parks, historic towns and castles and long beautiful beaches. Hadrian's Wall can be easily reached.
We hope to visit again and would highly recommend this holiday cottage. -

Left on 12/03/2009 for a stay in June 2009
The property is comfortable, well-equipped and in a pleasant rural setting. The bedroom and lounge are particularly nice though the kitchen is a bit on the small side. The rear garden is very attractive and looks out on to fields. The owners are very friendly and helpful though not at all obtrusive. The only minor negative aspect is the 4 chickens which, having been encouraged by previous occupants, wait at the patio or front door, expecting to be fed. It means that one can't leave the patio door open or else they will come in and one has to be careful where one walks due to their droppings.
As a base for exploring Northumberland, it's excellent and it's also possible to do some walks starting at the cottage, providing one doesn't mind initially walking along the main road for a short distance. -
