What Past Guests Are Saying
Esher, Surrey, UK
An easy place to be, great for sight seeing and close to the met
The house is as it appears on the site - a row house (or terraced as we say in the UK), but you don't hear the neighbours. The master bedroom is a good size with a v comfortable bed. The second bedroom is tight for a double, and the bed itself is a bit saggy for my taste. The sofabed in the living room is well worn but perfectly adequate - both this and the second bed are doubles but probably best for one adult or two children. There's only one bathroom but it's nice, with a good large shower and heaps of towels. The location is great, although we felt we were close to the edge of where good Capitol Hill morphs into something a bit rougher. But we never saw anything untoward - if anything it's because the neighbourhood is so quiet (we'd just come from Manhattan) that we felt a little nervous at first. You're so close to the Capitol and Capitol South subway station is just around the block - brilliant location - and there are plenty of neighbourhood restaurants and grocery stores too. Boaz the owner had to be out of town briefly while we were there but had everything covered; he and his friend were in touch with us before and during our stay and were very responsive. There was no duvet cover for the third duvet (for the sofabed) when we arrived so they brought us brand new gorgeous crisp white bedding the next morning, which made up for it. I asked about laundry facilities and Boaz offered the use of the washer and dryer in the basement apartment, and gave us the key, just like that. That was really helpful to us. One thing that would make it better is to add an armchair or a second sofa - four people and one sofa doesn't quite work.
This was a disappointment. There were stinkbugs and mosquitoes in the bedroom and kitchen. The house was dirty and dusty. All of the closets smelled of smoke. The remodeling work was of poor quality and finishing work remained to be done. Paint was peeling, fixtures were rusting, a switch panel turned hot whenever we turned the light on, and the toilet seat was too small for the large toilet. It takes a while to get hot water. All the Ikea furniture is poorly assembled. When we let Boaz know that an inset light fixture was dangling from the ceiling over a bed, he said it wasn't a safety hazard. The second bed was bare and crammed into the room. The rental unit downstairs was also noisy and separated by a door that doesn't close all the way. This is an old building remodeled on the cheap with poor maintenance and housekeeping. It's located on the border of a poor african american neighborhood but was close to the Capitol South Metro Station. The grocery store that Boaz recommended was barred on the windows and doors and resembled a corner store out of East Central L.A. Next time, we'll put our $300/night to use in a nicer part of DC, such as northwest DC.

Convenient and comfortable
My wife and I stayed with our two teenage daughters for four nights. We walked to almost everything. The Capitol, Library of Congress and Supreme Court are so close we say interviews started on the steps of the Supreme Court on TV and walked up to watch them finish in person. We used both bedrooms and the fold out bed in the first floor living room and everyone was very happy with the beds. I would highly recommend this house as a great home base for a DC visit.
For our family this was the perfect place to stay! We came for our grandson's baptism. The location was close to our kids home, close to the church, close to restaurants & coffee shops, close to the metro so we could get there from the airport without renting a car, and close to all the sights. We walked everywhere and felt very secure. The house was beautiful and clean with every convenience you could want. My only suggestion would be to leave instructions on how to run some of the things (front light timer, stove, dishwasher, thermostat). When extra family came we rented the downstairs apartment also. That was more than perfect because they connect from inside the house also so it just became one big house! Boaz was more than gracious and always available when we had a question. Rent this house...you won't regret it!

CLEAN and SAFE
Scenario: my parents, husband and I, and 2 children (teen + youth) staying in D.C. 4 days after travelling 14 days together:) AND, half of us are a bit germ-freakish! My parents couldn't do the stairs too well, so the lower unit (3or4 stairs down) was perfect for them--quiet too! We enjoyed the space upstairs; beautiful functional kitchen, comfortable beds (double bed is squeeky tho comfy),interesting reading material, spacious living area, clean bathroom with lots of towels. It really is nicer even than the pictures portray. We were nervous about staying in D.C. (reports about crime etc.)but being so close to the US Capitol, things were very secure! We were impressed that single students felt comfortable enough to jog alone at night in that area! The parking pass was a God-send. We didn't use our car. The Metro is very close, and really does get you all over D.C. without a hitch. We went out in the evenings with the kids and walked for 2-3 hours taking in all the lights, monuments at night etc. My parents were ready to be home, and appreciated being in a home in the evenings to relax and recharge (and do laundry). Bakery/coffee just a block away, corner grocery about 3 blocks away--very easy walk, prices quite reasonable at 3 or 4 restaurants within 3-5 block walk. Owners were very accomodating and friendly, prompt in responding to phone calls, and live in the neighbourhood. The price fit our budget: it is difficult to find reasonable accommodation for 6 people to stay together! Conclusion: FABULOUS! Great end to my dad's 80th birthday. Hope to return in 2010. p.s. We were worried this was too good to be true--but it IS what it says it is.(This is not a paid announcement!!)
Thanks again. :)
Great Place to stay in Capitol Hill
Amazing location! Walking distance (with 2 young kids) to all Capitol Hill
attractions, including Smithsonian museums. Very nice home with plenty of
room for our family. Very helpful host: Boaz was only a call away if we needed
anything. Highly recommend this home and hope to return ourselves!
A hidden gem in Capitol Hill
If you are considering a stay in Washington DC this
is the location for you. It is steps from the
Capitol building and the Eastern Market and in a cozy
little neighborhood. The town house is newly
renovated and very nicely appointed. You won't need
anything else for your stay.
Boaz was a pleasure to deal with and we will be
recommending this to any of our friends considering a

Hidden Jewel in DC
My wife and I had to travel to Washington, DC, for a family gathering. Rather than stay in a standard hotel room, we decided to try something a bit different. And were we glad we did!!
This turned out to be one of the best bargains of our trip. The house is located a short walk from the Capitol, from the Metro station, and from many other attractions including Eastern Market.
The property is beautifully maintained and spotlessly clean; it is evident that its owner takes a great deal of pride in the house's condition. It's fully equipped from every respect. We only needed to open our suitcases and we were "home."
He also responded immediately and courteously to a couple of special requests, and was a font of information about sites and restaurants.
Best features: Location, the property itself and its owner's helpfulness.
Worst feature: We couldn't stay longer!
